I think I found one/both of the parents on Facebook. No information, really. Other than I think the mother may be a student at Florida State (if I'm looking at the right girl).

EDIT: Never mind, the woman I found is the cousin of the missing baby.

Do we have the names of parents yet...I've found info on a male that I think may be Dad.

I haven't found the parents yet, but I have found the uncle, aunt, two cousins, and a few other family members I'm still working on getting their relation to the baby & parents.

Parents might be foreign from the sound of name. So, i could understand where they might be confused. However, I am seeing in records some possible financial troubles. I hope this is not a copy cat - I am not making an accusation either.

EDIT: Whomever owns home - not confirmed as a parent - speculative.

Haitian Immigrant - I believe.

Maybe this is the grandfather of the child?? The owner of the home. Any ideas here?

Wasn't there just a big deal over something in town regarding Haiti?? not the earthquake - I need to look.

I don't know about anyone else but the only way you would have gotten my 3 week old baby from me was out of my cold, dead arms. Something is wrong here.

  • #48
I think I may have found Mom - but I don't want to post any names here until released.

Nope -- sorry Katelyn I am with you - cousin.

The owner of the home - is a Haitian immigrant - So, it is possible they are not very familiar with our system - who knows the story. For all we know they came from Haiti after the earthquake, baby's parents not the baby - ANYTHING is possible.

Video: Police Chief: Baby Taken By Woman Posing As DCF Worker
~~snipped~~
The woman is described as 20-22 years old, 5 feet tall and 150 pounds, with medium complexion skin and shoulder-length hair, a silver stud nose piercing, and wearing a gray and black T-shirt and tight blue jeans.

Map Of Baby Abduction On Westside
Graham said police are investigating how the woman convinced the baby's parents to turn the child over to her.

John Harrell, of DCF, said the department found out from police Tuesday night that the baby had been taken from a home.

"We're obviously very concerned. We're very shaken by this," Harrell said. "This is something we want to emphasize to the public: This is not how we do things. No one from this agency is ever going to go to a door and take a child."

Anyone who was at Shands Hospital between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday who saw anything strange occurring or who encountered someone who fit the woman's description, and anyone with information that could help police is asked to contact JSO at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.

This may not make sense, but it happens all the time. Fortunately, *most* of these abductors do not hurt the children. Hoping that is the case for Melvin.

From what I am seeing of relatives they all seem like they are getting good education and good people.

Melvins Amber Alert Flyer

EDIT: I decided to attach it, rather than paste it in here. Pasting the photo in there turned out HUGE and messed up the margins of the page.

I totally agree.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but they're from Haiti. Most of them seem to be college educated, or in college right now.

Major hink....this makes no sense. From giving the baby to a stranger to waiting 2 hours to report it.

The aerial shot of the house looks nice too.

I'm hoping these are good indications.

But, as we all know, those things don't mean much when it comes to these cases sometimes.

I just don't get it. If they are good, educated people how could they have been "fooled" by this lady?

ETA: Also, if they are good parents, why would DCF take the baby? I mean, why would they think DCF would take the baby? KWIM
My hinky meter is up.

This family is Haitian - We don't know the story. For all we know the parents could have come here from Haiti after the earthquake - the family seems very large. I don't think we should jump to conclusions yet. Let's wait and see what happens. I think if the last name was Smith or Thompson then yeah.. waiting a few hours is DEF hinky after someone takes your baby and claims to be DCF!!! But being that they are foreigners I am gonna go with benefit of the doubt.

I have not pinpointed the parents of the child - just relatives - all younger kids in college here.
