In other words how difficult it is to know the answer of the equation when you are the one filling in the unknowns?
Well the same goes when someone assumes that Dale is innocent. Unlike a court of law the court of public opinion rules in society. Just because someone never gets tried or gets a "not guilty" verdict doesn't mean they avoid public damnation. Just ask Casey Anthony. IMO she and Dale share a lot of the same characteristics. If I were playing matchmaker..well just saying!
But the truth remains many times killers get away with killing simply because they have become well equipped and prepared on how to get rid of key evidence. A simple google search and enough research like Dale Sr was doing on the Powell case may provide enough ideas and strategy to pull off the perfect crime. For Dale practice makes perfect! He has had a life of criminal behavior, knows the system inside and out, and IMO has worked all the angles thus far to his advantage.
