‘Person of interest’ in Miya Marcano’s disappearance found dead; 19-year-old still missing

The press conference was apparently postponed from 1:00 to 3:00 when the POI’s body was found. I wonder if they were planning to name him as a POI even before the suicide? My understanding is that LE had been trying to locate him up until that point. He was found in an apartment complex in Seminole county and had been dead for some time. I wonder if this was his apartment or someone else’s? In my experience maintenance men usually live on site.

sorry to say this, he's a maintenance guy. no one always notices what they do. Big laundry bin, a giant tote. . . he could throw her in a duffle and no one would be the wiser. just a bad guy IMO

You're right - it's like they can hide in plain sight because residents will just assume they are doing their job.

Mina said Caballero, who was a maintenance worker at the complex, accessed Marcano’s apartment using a maintence key fob a half-hour before she was last seen. Mina said an arrest warrant had been issued for Caballero for burglary related to him entering her apartment without permission.

Mina said Caballero had previously expressed romantic interest in Marcano, which the Valencia College student had rebuffed.

Seminole County deputies said Caballero was found dead inside a unit at Camden Club Apartments in unincorporated Longwood around 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Deputies, including around 30 detectives, are still actively searching for Marcano.

“We are imploring anyone with any information on Miya’s whereabouts to come forward,” Mina said.

I think fobs keep that information. I know my work on does, it lets them see when I enter and how many times I go to the bathroom or leave the office!

I confused myself for a second...it said his vehicle was found at "the scene" and I took that to mean the scene of her disappearance but apparently it meant the scene of his suicide. That makes more sense.

No means no. It really is that simple. So why does the aggressor not accept this response? What makes someone believe they don’t have to accept “No?”

A maintenance master key that Caballero was known to keep was used to enter Marcano's apartment unit around 4:30 p.m. Friday, a half-hour before she would have finished her shift at the apartment complex, Mina said.

Before he was found dead, authorities had issued an arrest warrant for Caballero for burglary for allegedly entering her unit.

Investigators are still seeking information as to Marcano's whereabouts, and Caballero and his vehicle, which investigators have recovered. During a search of Marcano's apartment, investigators found several items deemed "suspicious," Mina said.

Armando Manuel Caballero, 27, a person of interest in the case, was found dead at an apartment complex Monday, Mina said. It appeared that he took his own life and "had been dead for quite some time," he said.

With all of the rain we've had (not the past 2 days) the retention ponds are pretty full - there is a lot of trees/palms and Florida wild growth along that route. She could be anywhere but I hope they checked the dumpsters.....
