What we know about Miya Marcano’s disappearance
snipped
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —

On Tuesday, law enforcement fanned out across multiple apartment complexes in Orange and Seminole County in search of Miya Marcano. The 19-year-old who lives and works near UCF has not been seen since Friday. Here’s what we know:

1. Where & when Miya was last seen

Miya Marcano was last seen leaving work around 4:30 p.m. on Friday according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. She worked at Arden Villas and also lived there. Her family said she had a flight booked on Friday night to Fort Lauderdale, but she never made it onto the plane.

2. What Miya was last seen wearing

On Tuesday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office released an updated missing flyer showing a red “Preiss Co.” shirt that Miya was wearing when she was last seen on Friday. Law enforcement said she also had on jeans and a black hoodie before she disappeared.

3. Who is the person of interest in her case

.....
4. What we know about Armando Caballero

Sheriff Mina said the maintenance master key fob that Caballero used was swiped to enter Miya’s apartment around 4 p.m. on Friday. That is 30 minute before she was set to get off of work.

The sheriff said Caballero does not have a lengthy criminal history and mentioned a former burglary charge in Polk County.

.....

5. Person of interest spotted on cell phone video

Miya Marcano’s aunt, Semone Westmaas, said she ran into Armando Caballero on Saturday. That is the same day that cell phone video was shot that appears to show him in an apartment complex parking lot. It was two days before he apparently killed himself.

“He was trying to leave. His lights was off. He said, ‘Are you looking for Miya?’ I said, ‘Who are you?’ He said, ‘I’m the maintenance guy. I heard you’re looking for me,’” said Westmaas. “I didn’t know who this guy was at the time.”

So now we know she left work at 4:30 - so when was he seen Friday evening? I am thinking he stayed in her apartment until night came (which is getting darker now earlier) and then carried her out in her blanket ? Where did he go? I hope they can find out from his cell phone/car....

That would be my guess as well. Wait for the cover of darkness to move her...but what time was that? Does he have a small time frame to leave her somewhere so therefore she wouldn't be far or did he have a much larger window to drive further away? Did we ever hear if her suitcase was found in the apt? Did he put her in the suitcase or did he use something else? I'm confused about why he would still be carrying that pink blanket if it was in fact hers. You would think he would get rid of all evidence that tied him to her.

So, east of Arden Villas/UCF is pretty desolate; not built up at all. Miles of wooded areas and swamps with gators. A 20 minute drive could land you in an area that’s all wooded and/or swamp with zero traffic. I lose cell phone coverage when driving east on either HWY 50 or 520 in that area. West of Arden Villas, to where the San Jose Apartments are, where upthread it said the Saturday morning video of POI was shot (and I agree that it appears to be a match with those apartments) is completely built up IMO. Winter Park/San Jose Apts to Longwood is also pretty built up IMO. It’s my opinion that he dumped her Friday night in east Orange co off of HWY 50 or HWY 520 and she was already gone by the time the video was shot Saturday morning. It’s also my opinion that soon after he dropped off the pink blanket, gloves, and backpack in Winter Park, he went to the garage at the Longwood apartments and hung himself. Questions- did OCSO recover that black backpack? Who lives/d at the San Jose apartment? Does OCSO have his cell phone? And countless other questions...

I pray OCSO finds her soon.

There really is no good outcome here - IMO. I would guess that LE has already searched his actual real apartment and any empty apartments/rooms in Arden as well as the old complex? These killers tend to be lazy so if she was dumped I'm going to guess a side road - in the suitcase possibly - depending on the size - perhaps 200-300 feet in a wooded area. I hate typing this.

Thank you for that information. I would think the swamps if he never wanted her to be found. No body. No conviction. He took his own life so that makes me think maybe that wasn't a concern of his. He wouldn't be around to go down for the crime. Or was suicide a decision made once he realized there was no way they wouldn't figure out it was him?

I wonder if it was prompted by that contact Saturday with a member of her family - kind of like - oh wow, they are looking for her - maybe even knew they filmed him? I wonder if his time of death will be released?

No one would question a suitcase especially on a Friday, as he could have said he was taking it out for a tenant.

That said, as a maintenance guy, he knew of all the hiding places in the building, crawl spaces, access to the roof and places like that. No one would question him about being in anywhere in the building.

That’s what I think too… which is so disturbing in so many ways. @SleuthWren theorized this yesterday as well that the family caught on to him first.
What I really wonder is if she was in her suite Friday evening and the police had been at the complex talking to co-workers but didn’t go in… because it seems like he was talked to on Friday by police but they didn’t figure out until Sunday or Monday that he had accessed her apartment and was a POI.

I was trying to process a lot of this last night and had a thought. For an event to take place like the evidence is suggesting, it hard to believe that nobody heard her screaming. Is it possible he somehow drugged her. Stay with me on this.....how closely did they work together and how creeped out by him was she? Going from experience of co-workers being "friendly" and maybe bringing food, treats in the office.....also, I would assume that police has checked all vacant units or units that staff would know where residents were on vacation/out of town?

@OrangeCoSheriff

OCSO Deputies continue to search for 19-year-old Miya Marcano. The red shirt (left) is what she was last seen wearing on 9/24. On 9/27, Armando Caballero, the person of interest in this case, was found dead of an apparent suicide. Call
@CrimelineFL
or 407-836-4357 w/ any info

I wonder if OCSO will release the details of Friday night/Saturday investigation?

I wonder if a time of death can even be determined on the POI.
In reality and I hate to type this or think this but he could have driven quite a ways away in Florida with so many hiding olaces

It was reported that might have been the case. We were discussing if she was maybe living on the main floor but not sure.
This is awful.

Yea I guessed the window as a possibility. I only mentioned what the aunt said bc there must be some evidence to support that since she's speaking to the media about it. Hopefully the phone records give many more answers.

I appreciate you giving us the update! Thank you.
I hope so too. :(

Her family is calling for the FBI to join the search:

"Miya Marcano’s family is calling for the FBI to get involved in the search for the missing 19-year-old.

They said they are frustrated and desperate to bring Marcano home".

LIVE UPDATES: Miya Marcano’s family calls for FBI to help with search for missing 19-year-old

There is also another copy of the video of the POI leaving the car at the link above - I tried to enlarge the part to show the pink blanket:

Edited to add: Looking again, are they sure it's a blanket and not the T shirt she had on when she went missing? Color seems close:

Or they are assuming this... since the door was shut/blocked/locked.

The only way the family can know this is either a witness saw him pulling her through the window (if so, why not call 911?) or they have cameras and it's on video JMO - I can't think of any other way they would know - ideas?

Information from the police or scuff marks on the window seal. They did say the window was open, right? Also, the door being barred may have been an indication she couldn't have left through the door.
