This is so scary and really hits home for me. We had a scary experience with the maintenance man in my daughter's apt complex when she was 20. She had 2 roommates and this maintenance guy was very 'helpful' when the girls moved in. She talked about him a couple of times and it seemed weird to me that he spent so much time fixing things for them. And hanging out in their apartment.

I warned the girls about him and they rolled their eyes of course---and laughed and said they wanted him to come around and help them. He helped them move some heavy furniture around, etc, which seemed odd to me. That's not his job. Then he started coming around at night with wine and joints, asking if they wanted to party. I went to the management when I learned about that. He was yelled at but not fired so then he was angry. So maybe I screwed up---but I wasn't comfortable with a 30 yr old bringing alcohol to 3 single 20 year old girls, living alone there.

It freaked me out that he had a key to their place......We ended up bribing the girls to move to another complex. We got out of the lease by threatening to sue for their employee bringing wine and pot to the apartment. They thought I was over reacting but I got a really bad vibe from him. Reading this case gave me the chills.
I'm glad you listened to your 'gut' instinct, you did the right thing.

I hope Miya is found soon, sending healing thoughts to all of her family and loved ones.

It's a shame that these young woman are constantly murdered by men for their own sick reasons. :(

I also wanted to make a comment after reading through this entire thread.
This is in regards to the window and also the location of her apartment. Her tiktok account was linked up thread. Unless she was visiting a friend in the complex, there is a picture of her standing on the balcony which appeared to be the same complex. So she wasn’t on the ground floor I assume MOO
Then in regards to the blocked bedroom door mentioned and her families comment that he exited through the window. Even if at first in only looked to be unlocked. I am almost certain that they either found the removed screen or the screen to have been removed (missing). Even though he was maintenance heut is impossible to easily click the screen back into the window frame from the outside. Especially if not on the ground floor
So tragic....I hate that the complex owner failed this beautiful girl!!!!

Sounds like darn good parenting to me. One day they’ll get that bad vibe feeling. They’ll remember how you insisted they move.

My youngest has very poor social skills. I had to literally teach her what to look for, tell her to think about how she felt and observe her surroundings. I wish the college freshmen or even at high schools, they had a day session or class students could take. Something to help them build awareness for their safety and confidence to speak up.

What????? Nowhere did I read or see on here that the aunt actually ran into him At 3:30 AM that Saturday morning when they arrived. I know he asked if she is looking for Miya but again I didn’t know it was that early wow
And the police was there earlier she says, “when the call was made” it’s about a 3 hr drive

I wonder if the police actually went in the suite or just tried to make contact with Miya.
Yes, this is brutal to think about.

I'm in NSB right now. Helicopters going overhead. Any updates today? I work here twice weekly since '81.

I wonder that, too. If her flight was at 10:30pm and the dad said he didn’t hear from her after work, I assume he was already worried. Then she didn’t arrive (approximately an hour flight/getting off/maybe a bit delayed) so it was let’s say 11:30? When they might have called her in missing or were taken serious? Wonder when exactly the police was at the apartment complex asking about her whereabouts? I am sure all that were able to from the family jumped in the car and drove up right away I would have, too!!!

I agree - I think they were already worried and maybe went to the airport hoping she would get off the flight and left straight from there driving straight to Orlando.
It seems like the police did ask around at the complex on Friday evening as they did talk to the suspect who said he hadn’t seen her since 3 pm per some reports. Maybe they felt they had no need to get into her suite at that time though?
It’s so much to think about… what if they had? Could she be here with her family now and him in custody? At the same time she’s an adult…
This is just a nightmare for her and her loved ones.

No FB expert here so I have to ask - people are talking about her FB and the Orlando check in on 9/28/21 and who that could be. Do you think LE had something to do with that and would it show that way? Or family? Or?

I just had the horrifying thought. What if the family calls for them to do a welfare check. They stop by and knock. No one answers. They leave. Thinking it’s not that serious. 19 y/o college kid on a Friday. Partying. But what if she was inside when they stopped by. With him. She couldn’t alert the cops bc she is tied up etc. Did the family stumble on him after or before he got her out. Does the family who came by have a key? Did the family call the cops and was like “You gotta come back and look in her apt. We just ran in to a man who has been harassing her outside her apt. Something isn’t right” idk.

Horrifying thought for sure.
I don’t know and I’m wondering the same - if the family had a key…

“It is very hard because I am dying inside. We need closure. We’ve got to solve what it is. I don’t know what kind of life it would be for never knowing where she’s at,” she said with tears in her eyes.

“Wherever she travelled, wherever she went, she always had teddy,” the concerned grandmother said. “Then, when they went into her apartment and saw the teddy was there, we knew something definitely was wrong.”

“At this time we don’t believe there was another person involved," Mina said Thursday.

More than 60 detectives are working exclusively on the case, the sheriff said, and a total of about 176 personnel across Orange, Seminole and Volusia counties are assisting the search, which includes trained dogs from multiple agencies, helicopters, dive teams, and digital methods. Detectives have conducted nearly 30 searches, he added.
