I'm glad you listened to your 'gut' instinct, you did the right thing. This is so scary and really hits home for me. We had a scary experience with the maintenance man in my daughter's apt complex when she was 20. She had 2 roommates and this maintenance guy was very 'helpful' when the girls moved in. She talked about him a couple of times and it seemed weird to me that he spent so much time fixing things for them. And hanging out in their apartment.
I warned the girls about him and they rolled their eyes of course---and laughed and said they wanted him to come around and help them. He helped them move some heavy furniture around, etc, which seemed odd to me. That's not his job. Then he started coming around at night with wine and joints, asking if they wanted to party. I went to the management when I learned about that. He was yelled at but not fired so then he was angry. So maybe I screwed up---but I wasn't comfortable with a 30 yr old bringing alcohol to 3 single 20 year old girls, living alone there.
It freaked me out that he had a key to their place......We ended up bribing the girls to move to another complex. We got out of the lease by threatening to sue for their employee bringing wine and pot to the apartment. They thought I was over reacting but I got a really bad vibe from him. Reading this case gave me the chills.
Sounds like darn good parenting to me. One day they’ll get that bad vibe feeling. They’ll remember how you insisted they move. This is so scary and really hits home for me. I wonder if the police actually went in the suite or just tried to make contact with Miya. What????? Nowhere did I read or see on here that the aunt actually ran into him At 3:30 AM that Saturday morning when they arrived. I know he asked if she is looking for Miya but again I didn’t know it was that early wow
And the police was there earlier she says, “when the call was made” it’s about a 3 hr drive

I wonder that, too. If her flight was at 10:30pm and the dad said he didn’t hear from her after work, I assume he was already worried. Then she didn’t arrive (approximately an hour flight/getting off/maybe a bit delayed) so it was let’s say 11:30? When they might have called her in missing or were taken serious? Wonder when exactly the police was at the apartment complex asking about her whereabouts? I am sure all that were able to from the family jumped in the car and drove up right away I would have, too!!!I wonder if the police actually went in the suite or just tried to make contact with Miya.
Yes, this is brutal to think about.
I agree - I think they were already worried and maybe went to the airport hoping she would get off the flight and left straight from there driving straight to Orlando.I wonder that, too. Horrifying thought for sure.i just had the horrifying thought. What if the family calls for them to do a welfare check. They stop by and knock. No one answers. They leave. Thinking it’s not that serious. 19 y/o college kid on a Friday. Partying. But what if she was inside when they stopped by. With him. She couldn’t alert the cops bc she’s is tied up etc. Did the family stumble on him after or before he got her out. Does the family who came by have a key? Did the family call the cops and was like “You gotta come back and look in her apt. We just ran in to a man who has been harassing her outside her apt. Something isn’t right” idk.
Wow - this poor lady! This is so, so sad.“It is very hard because I am dying inside. We need closure. We’ve got to solve what it is. I don’t know what kind of life it would be for never knowing where she’s at,” she said with tears in her eyes.
“Wherever she travelled, wherever she went, she always had teddy,” the concerned grandmother said. “Then, when they went into her apartment and saw the teddy was there, we knew something definitely was wrong.”
