Read the articles about DKs behavior. We're not talking ADHD
The idea was floated as a treatment for mental illness in general, not specifically for DK.

We can't reasonably complain about stigma then so quickly dismiss factors which cause it in the next breath. If we'd like to see change. Imo.

Candlelight vigil held in Jacksonville for Madden tournament shooting victims
Electronic Arts (EA) announced it will contribute $1 million to the victims of the shooting, as well as the families of the two men who were killed: Taylor "SpotMePlzzz" Robertson, 27, and Elijah "Trueboy" Clayton, 22. Electronic Arts also will host a tribute livestream on Sept. 6.

"The events last weekend in Jacksonville will impact the gaming community forever," Electronic Arts said in a statement. "We can't begin to understand the pain so many are going through, nor do we pretend to have all the answers that will help us through the healing process."

Gaming Bar where two were killed in fatal Florida Madden shooting did not have a valid building permit and has been shut down
Fire inspectors have shut down the Florida restaurant and bar that was the scene of a fatal mass shooting during a video gaming tournament.

A bright orange 'cease and desist' notice was posted on the door of Chicago Pizza at the Jacksonville Landing on Wednesday.

A city code violation report says the restaurant didn't have a permit to hold the Madden NFL 19 tournament last weekend.

‘It was only a matter of time’: Security of esports events scrutinized after Jacksonville shooting
In response to the shooting, Electronic Arts, the software publisher behind the Madden football video games series and sponsor of the game’s competitive circuit, canceled the remaining three Madden Classic qualifying tournaments. The company’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, said it would “run a comprehensive review of safety protocols for competitors and spectators,” in search of a “consistent level of security” for all of the company’s competitive gaming events.

Esports execs place 'Madden' shooting blame on U.S. gun laws, not video games
“Of course tragedies like this should never happen. One is already too many,” Asian Electronic Sports Federation president Kenneth Fok told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday prior to the debut of esports at the quadrennial Asian Games, according to the Associated Press. “But I think this is a bigger issue of gun control and access to guns.

“This very unfortunate incident happened in a video game arena, but does this mean that it’s esports or video games to blame? I don’t believe so. It’s not esports that caused this. We’re really saddened to see this take place.”

Now that we're up and running again, can I please urge people to read the article that glamourkitty1922 posted a few days ago. There was rather a heated reaction to the term "chemical lobotomy" but if a serious journal such as Psychology Today believes that the current use of psychiatric drugs has a very similar effect to the former physical lobotomy, then it merits serious consideration.

If the media can dig up a detailed mental health history of David Katz in about 24 hours, why can the same not be done for background checks before guns can be purchased?

Jacksonville shooter had troubling history but passed background check | Daily Mail Online
Jacksonville video game shooter David Katz was hospitalized twice in psychiatric units, had 26 police visits to his family home and was deemed to have a capacity for violence by a psychologist - but still got a gun legally, court papers reviewed by DailyMail.com reveal.
There is no database of persons 'suffering from a mental disorder', according to police.
Bitter dispute: The battling parents' differing positions on their son's mental health were set out in hundreds of pages of legal documents in court in Columbia, MD. The court case also revealed Katz harbored a 'hatred' towards his mom

Court documents show Katz's father Richard, was against his son taking anti-depressants and anti-psychotic meds

It doesn't seem that not being able to dig up his mental health history was the problem but that his various inpatient stays were not long enough to legally disqualify him from buying firearms under existing legislation.

And none of that would disqualify him?

And none of that would disqualify him?

No, because neither of his hospital stays was involuntary or for more than 30 days.

I agree - it sounds incredible that such a catalogue of police involvement did not prevent David buying firearms but by the sounds of it none of the visits led to any criminal charges being laid against him.

As I have predicted (and heartily applaud), the gamer conventions for Madden have been shut down. Its a murky world, with little oversight. Young people should be out earning an honest living by working from the shoulders down. The location didn't even have a permit to operate, that tells me everything I need to know.

Do you have a link for the competitions being shut down? How is any legal work not an honest living? And I am confused by the implication that the physically disabled cannot make an honest living...
These were professional gamers with sponsorship companies paying them a salary. It's not murky, and I don't know of any indication regarding the oversight to suggest it lax or otherwise.

All I see is that they canceled the three remaining qualifiers for Madden '19, but the quote clearly indicates the competitions are to continue. Electronic Arts cancels 'Madden 19' video game qualifiers after Jacksonville shooting
EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in a statement released late Monday that the company decided to cancel the three remaining qualifying events "while we run a comprehensive review of safety protocols for competitors and spectators. We will work with our partners and our internal teams to establish a consistent level of security at all of our competitive gaming events."
