You know what, I have to say something that's been bothering me for quite a few days...this stuff of not feeling comfortable putting names on the board. IMO, when you put yourself in the news to be interviewed, when you are pulled over for a traffic violation, when you are charged with a crime, you become public information. IMO, EVERYONE is considered a suspect - I find myself looking at the people I work with, in my neighborhood, at a traffic light, etc. Facebook pages, Myspace pages, they are all out there for public consumption. If you don't want it out there don't do anything wrong, abide by the law and don't put your name in cyberspace! So I really don't see why a small minority of ppl on this board have a problem with those who are already in the public records for whatever reason.
I have no qualms about the SO's or those with criminal records. I have a problem with digging up info on people that are only peripherally connected.
If you have utilities in your name, if you receive mail, if you have ever been contacted by the government for any reason (tax audit, jury duty, whatever) your name is in the public records. With a name come an address and phone number.
It's dangerous for those not involved. This is a public board, and there are nutcases everywhere.
For example, the last public record for me is 7 years ago. That is the closest you can come to finding me. I had cable in my name at that address. I have not had anything in my name since that time. For some reason, my current address hasn't been found yet from renewing my license.
If you have bills in your name, you will show up, with the billing address. Not usually for a couple of years, but it depends on when the records were updated.
For me personally, it is terrifying that all the precautions I have in place to keep myself alive, could fail if my address were to posted. These precautions include, photobucket under fake name with the personal photos locked, myspace under a fake name with no personal photos, facebook under a fake name, restraining order, email under a fake name, court orders in place that forbid the court from ever divulging my address, phone, email, or other personal area identifying information to my ex. He tried to kill me 5 years ago and I think he would try it again, if he had the means and the access.
You never know who could be hurt by being put under undeserved scrutiny.
Should have read that seven years it the closest you can come without some serious sleuthing skills or one of the really expensive sites. He has neither skills nor money, but he does have Google.
