Another fundraiser? No other case I have ever heard of has had this many fundraisers.

Really GREAT isn't it. Keeping little Somer's name and face front and center means everything in terms of getting some kind of media coverage

Somer talked to Kyle that day at the burnt house, it would make sense she would have traces of soot, at least on her feet. I believe Sad pointed out that the person who told Sam was not always credible, I took it as take it will a grain of salt, just not as fact. Maybe the person right this time (just didn't hear it from LE perhaps), who knows? But, it would surprise me if she didn't have soot on her & that is one reason they may have concentrated on the burnt house, other reasons could be Kyle was one of the last people to speak with her, Somer being last scene in that vicinity, vacant house, RSO at one time working there, etc.

That's right - NOT FACT - and we haven't discussed 'soot' on Somer from the burnt house on Gano since. And we correct those who heard it on NG but weren't on WS to have the info Sad gave us.

This sounds interesting. I wonder what it's all about.

I think it's because this community has been so touched by Somer.

In a way, it makes them feel like they are doing something in her memory.

I think Somer's case has touched so many people. It's too bad that it can't be the same for every missing and murdered child.

Somer Jam

Type: Causes - Fundraiser
Date: Saturday, March 27, 2010
Time: 3:00pm - 11:00pm
Location: The Jacksonville Landing

Description::SOMER THOMPSON FOUNDATION KICK-OFF::
Information about the foundation will be revealed at the concert

Diena Thompson found herself living every parent’s worst nightmare when her 7 year old daughter went missing on October 19, 2009. Two days later, in a Georgia landfill, Somer’s body was discovered. The community felt an immediate call to action.
Molly Hatchet’s biggest contribution to this case is the song that was written in Somer Thompson’s memory. “Fly on Wings of Angels” is a beautiful ballad that opens with Somer’s older sister, Abby, singing “You are my Sunshine”, Somer’s favorite song. The song will be the first single on the bands new album titled “JUSTICE” which will be released June 1, 2010.

The Molly Hatchet Band will be performing at The Jacksonville Landing on March 27th, 2010 along with HOLLYWOOD LOVESCENE, FIT FOR RIVALS, SOMETHING DISTANT, SHAWN FISHER and the JUKEBOX GYPSIES, and RED JUMPSUIT APPARATUS(playing acoustic).

This single has already touched America’s heart and brought forth an awareness that community involvement can make a difference by bringing people together and in helping one another in time of tragedy and seeking…JUSTICE !!

There will be a $20 donation at the gate.

Personal and Business Sponsorship opportunities are available.

PERHAPS this is what THAT'S ALL ABOOT:

Solicitation of Contributions <<< CLICK LINK FOR SOURCE

The Solicitation of Contributions Act requires anyone who solicits donations from people in the State of Florida to register with the Department and renew annually. This applies to charitable organizations, sponsors, professional solicitors, as well as professional fund raising consultants. The Department collects registration fees and has authority to impose penalties for non-compliance. The Department provides financial disclosure regarding organizations on the online Gift Givers' Guide or you can obtain information about a specific charity by calling our Consumer Assistance Call Center at 1-800-HELP-FLA (435-7352), or out of state 850-488-2221.

I don't get it tarabull.

Tarabull, I tried to find the Somer Thompson Foundation in that Gift Givers Guide at the link you provided, but I got an error message.

Are you saying that they (the Somer Thompson Foundation) are not registered and are violating FL law?

I'm not sure I get it either.

I'm not sure if they are or aren't but perhaps that's why they are saying INFOMRATION ABOUT THE FOUNDATION WILL BE REVEALED AT THE CONCERT...

because they are saying there is a $20 donation required at the gate.

I'm not sure the other fundraisers had specific price tags attached to them...

:waitasec:

I'm just thinking outloud here...

ANYONE have any info to offer about prior fundraisers?

Were they taking any donations or a specified amount for entry?

Do they offer charitable tax receipts?

I'm asking cuz I don't know how it works....does SOMEONE? ANYONE?

Getting back to what we were discussing - if Somer was wrapped in a piece of carpet, what do people think? Did it come from the burnt house on Gano or the house JH was living in? I think you would have to be VERY strong to wrap a child's body in carpeting and carry it out to put in a dumpster. What are the thoughts on this. TIA

  • #951
I'm not up to speed on FL laws on charitable donations, but I have seen plenty of fund raisers that specify an amount of the donation to get in.

Or in some cases, a dinner that will be for example $100 per plate or something like that.

I think Noway did a list of fundraisers and info on them at one time. I remember looking at it.

  • #952
Tara, are all foundations automatically charitable organizations? I mean the 501(c) kind?

  • #953
Tarabull - I have followed other cases that have held fundraisers that DID request a set price for a ticket.

Stacy Peterson for one......

I have no idea where it came from, but if I was to guess...I'd say JH's home.

And I think at his size he would have no problem wrapping Somer in the rug/carpet, putting her in a car, and then putting her in a dumpster.

I did but I think it was sent into cyberspace.

I got a lot of info from this though ... and there are specific entry fees on some of the events.

My guess is that the attorney helping mom Diena and family will take care of business regarding 'foundations' and the like. I know if I donate to an organization I use it as a tax write off.

OK THIS is good to know...thanks for that!

Was there a FOUNDATION set up for Stacy?

I will go look for answers and leave the floor for rugs.

ETA: sorry to interrupt the convo.

Yes eyes, I think it has been stated that is one of the things he is helping the family with.

Carpets give off a lot of fibers - so you would find some in his car (trunk?), on or in Somer, and in the house or shed where it came from. Pretty good evidence I would say.

And I would think if there is a said rug, there would be a wealth of things to test on it. Dog drool, pee, shedding, human dna, cleaning fluids, etc.
