Yum! Splash of malt vinegar on the filet, that's what I've heard. I've done it, but I never get any noticeable difference (maybe I don't give a big enough splash, not sure).

Been amusing myself with a bag of drumsticks over the past few days. Did Colombian, then a BBQ with easy Martha Stewart sauce (little adjustments), then just bare bones super plain broiled with horseradish sauce.

Colombian was the best. Did this recipe:

Had to get them cooking forever at high heat to get them all blistered and charry.

Cleared out the sweet potato bed. Dumped all the vines in the compost corner. I think I may have gotten 10lbs, the most I’ve ever harvested. My friend uses the not so great ones for her homemade dog treats.

She might bring Neeko (husky) and the 2 Great Danes over to play back there today before the rain comes. She lives with her 2 adult daughters in a townhouse with their menagerie of animals.

I wish I had the strength to turn my massive compost pile. I need one of those little chain saws to cut up the oak tree limbs. I still have debris tossed in there from last year’s hurricane disaster. Of course it FL, it’s piled against the chain link fence to the wetland, likely lots of slithery, furry critters chilling in there.

One of the excursions available on my cruise was a salmon fishing trip. You could go out with a fisherman guide to catch your own salmon, then it was delivered to the ship’s kitchen. The chef would prepare it for you and serve it to you in the dining room.

We didn’t go on that one though, we were on a whale watching excursion that day.

I did enjoy Alaskan salmon in the main dining room several times.

I don't recall a salmon fishing trip, but there was a "salmon bake" excursion offered in one of the ports on our Alaskan cruise. We've done "foodie" excursions but usually those involved actually cooking or watching a chef prepare a meal in a private kitchen. We learned from passengers who had gone on the salmon bake trip that it was fabulous with plenty of fresh Alaskan salmon and Alaskan king crab legs with a good selection of sides and desserts. Beer, wine, and soft drinks were also included in the cost of the excursion. Like you said, fresh Alaskan salmon was served in the main dining rooms almost every night of the cruise and Alaskan king crab legs a couple of times. I'm not crazy about those, but they got high marks from other passengers. Reindeer chili in the dining rooms was nowhere as good as the bowls that we enjoyed shoreside.

A few years after our Alaskan cruise, my sister and her roommate took a six-night Alaskan cruise on Holland America. We wanted to gift them with a shore excursion and asked them to peruse them and let us know which one they would like to do. They chose a foodie excursion that included some sightseeing along with a massive spread of fresh-caught salmon, king crab legs, corn on the cob, roasted potatoes, and desserts. Alcoholic beverages and soda were also included. They absolutely loved the event, and we were so happy to have done this for them. We hope to cruise in Alaska again and would definitely choose some type of food excursion

THAT had to be terrifying with the tsunami. Relieved everything turned out ok.

Saw Poseidon Adventure, it's pretty good! It's a drama, though, so I'd be creeped out watching that one actually on a vessel. Would definitely watch the movie Airplane! on a flight, lol. (Comedy, really good, too.) And Triangle of Sadness is genuinely funny.

Am superstitious and would never, ever watch a film on Titanic anywhere near any vessel or vehicle.

Remember being on a flight one time and they showed Breakheart Pass, which I still think is bizarre because it involves a train that is under seige for a variety of reasons and is at one point derailed. I'm like nah, that's ok, lol...I'll just look out the window, LOL.

Have been pretty lucky with flights considering all the flying I did. But I do remember one time, the plane was descending and all of a sudden, it completely reversed, and at top speed. And this went on for a while, climbing so steep and fast that you felt like you were on a rollercoaster. I never found out what happened with that, it lasted a while. It definitely was unusual, that's for sure. Glad nothing came of it. Someone I knew once told me some flight he was on, the turbulence became so bad that the masks suddenly dropped down, and that was like a trans-Atlantic flight.

Got Billy Goat hamburger patties frozen, WHOOP!!

I am having SO much fun with these. Standard cheeseburgers; regular hamburgers (actually preferred these); mac n beef; loco moco, these are SO flipping good, seriously. I may switch over to frozen patties for a while, I read it's actually cheaper.

We're kinda already cheezborgered out at this point, so got frozen cheesesticks & jar of red sauce and took the easy way out today, LOL.

Tomorrow night we are going to another "TasteMaker" wine dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. The special event will feature wines from the Caymus Vineyards. We attended a Caymus Vineyards Wine Maker's Dinner on our cruise earlier this year.

That's droolworthy. Filet and pork belly, AND crab, AND creme brulee! Love creme brulee, managed to make it a couple x, there's nothing like it, jmo. WHOA, dark chocolate creme brulee (so even better, lol).

And yipes, Oktoberfest, and there's not a brat in here, I got sliced sirloin instead (doh). Still got some time before end of October so gotta get at least some brats & kraut.

The sirloin-- got that to play around on making steak sandwiches & other combinations. So far:

Subway chipotle sauce steak sandwiches with provolone, green pep & onion (pretty good but need lighter bread)
Italian beef adaptation (meh, the bread really hurt on this one, and I dipped in jus & still-- meh. Maybe with really good giardineira.)

Tomorrow, steak & egg sammy (hope I'm not complaining about the bread again)

The Caymus Vineyards "TasteMaker" dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse was a truly spectacular event, but there was way too much food and wine. Food portions and wine pours were very generous. The four wines presented were all awesome; my favorite was "The Walking Fool" red blend. The four-course dinner was amazing from start to finish. The crab bisque was exquisite with large chunks of buttery lump crab. Neither DH nor I have had pork belly before, so that was a new food experience for us. We called it "bacon on steroids" and loved the smoky flavor. Our 6oz. filet mignons were perfectly cooked and topped with rosemary-roasted mushrooms. Shared sides were a twice-baked potato with truffle butter and bacon and creamed spinach with a cheesy topping. Since both had dairy components, I only ate a forkful of each, and DH barely put a dent in either of the sides. Neither of us finished our steaks, so we'll be having leftovers tonight. The dark chocolate creme brulee was very rich with fresh strawberries and whipped cream on top. There was a guest speaker, Stacy, who is a local representative of the Caymus Vineyards. She offered stories about the origins of each of the wines and visited every table throughout the evening. There was also a video slideshow of the Wagner family's various vineyards. There was a drawing at the conclusion of the dinner, and we won another $50 Ruth's Chris gift card

Truffle butter!

Thank you SO much for describing this creme brulee in some detail with the strawberries. I think I'm going to try that creme brulee for the holidays. Looking for recipes here... It looks like standard creme brulee with the melted dark chocolate into the mix before baking. Oh, that sounds so good, seriously. But I'd almost want to do that one for Thanksgiving before it gets too cold out. In terms of a hot dessert for Christmas, looking at souffle for a second here. Mm, would probably want a sauce with it on the side, mm, ok, air fryer donuts!! And they're from Pioneer Woman, so I bet these will be good:

They use a cheat with canned dough but they're air fryer, and that means oven space freed up. That sounds good. I've always wanted to make donuts, this is a chance to "babystep" myself into donuts. OR can do pistachio souffle, maybe with chocolate ice cream or pistachio whip cream? OR like chocolate fondue, maybe? With strawberries.

Speaking of strawberries, gonna be trying some basic chocolate covered strawberries soon, yay!!

Steak n egg sammy was just fine, the bread worked with it because I gouged out some of the white (too heavy/too much bread). Need to get some lighter, airier breads.

I learned a quick sweet roll recipe years ago. Two ingredients: a can of Pillsbury Grand biscuits and a bag of fun size Milky Way bars.

Just bake the biscuits as directed, but before putting them in the over poke a hole in each raw biscuit and place a Milky Way bar inside. They melt while baking and it turns into a decent sweet roll.

I’m working in Kentucky this week and found a really good Sunday buffet at a local BBQ restaurant.

I am not usually big on buffets but this one was extremely clean. I was seated in a place where I could observe the buffet and the food was constantly being refreshed and employees were keeping it very clean.

I went in thinking I would order off the menu but once I saw the buffet I changed my mind. And it was excellent!

There were wonderful fresh vegetables including old fashioned green beans, bi- color sweet corn, creamed corn (real homemade, not out of a can) fried apples, hash brown casserole, baked mac & cheese, mashed potatoes with sawmill gravy, and a full salad bar with fresh, crisp ingredients and homemade dressings.

Thee was a dessert bar too with different cobblers and other desserts. I only had room to try just a couple spoonfuls of blackberry cobbler but it was excellent.
