Parisians use #PorteOuverte to offer shelter to those in need

"In the wake of deadly attacks in Paris, residents of the city took to social media to open up their homes to those in need of shelter. Using the hashtag #PorteOuverte, which translates to “Open Door,” Parisians who were in their homes began offering to shelter any tourists or Parisians who needed a place of shelter in the aftermath of the deadly attacks."

This is so heart warming to read. Bless them.

I wasn't here or on a news channel as this horror unfolded. Has a time frame been given as to when all targets were hit? TIA

I gather they started at the stadium with an explosions outside at the brasserie and two fast food places. The times were 9:15 pm, five minute later and the last at 9:40 pm, while the game went on and President Hollande was rushed to the Interior Ministry.

Not sure of the center of Paris attacks. It looks like they followed the path of the Friday street crowds as they made their way from the Rue de Charonne toward the Bataclan. It's still very confusing, sorry.

Not that it matters in terms of the horror those involved experienced, but France has roughly 1/5 of the population of the US. So for those scoffing at the death toll, 153 lives lost is significant in proportion to the population.

But the fact that such death even needed to be qualified is astounding. Who actually gets to decide which mass terrorist killings "matter more?"

SMDH.

why did they choose that retaurant ? I get the bigger ones , the cambodein one is wiered its really small. Caution: Lunesta in body - typing bad enought without Lunesta be aware ...........

I dunno my friend but seems these recent attacks are to step up the terror intent? In other words nobody is safe anywhere? Maybe is was a popular tourist eatery?

My heart goes out to all of Paris tonight, but especially to those parents who waved goodbye, said " have fun, be careful and don't stay out too late", to the beautiful young people off to a concert on a Friday night, who won't be coming home.

If your post was removed, and you don't why, consider the post you quoted. That might well be the cause.

Also, if you see a message when you post that says your post is moderated, that's an indication you were quoting a post at the same time a mod was deleting it.

Apparently Geraldo Rivera does.

Somehow I think the parents of all those young people killed in the theater tonight might feel differently. Actually, the loved ones of all those killed and maimed tonight will feel differently. In my mind it's not about numbers. It's about hate. It's about terror, and it's changed their lives, their world forever. Compassion, it's a good thing.

I agree with all of your post . But for those who are stuck on the numbers, the population of France is roughly 1/5 to 1/6 that of the USA . So when you crunch the numbers, for the numbers buffs, they are pretty close to the same, per population. Plus, this is not France's FIRST attack. Anyone who is afraid to go to work, school, theater, coffee shop, church, shopping tomorrow or next week is affected by this. It won't end next week either. The fear will last a very , very long time. Almost 200 families have to bury a child or parent this week ! And many more families are crying at hospitals tonight unsure if their child or parent will live. If your child goes to concerts, like mine does, it could have been them. Because France is a smaller country than the US should not mean this is not an equally grave and horrific and life altering event.

I am devastated. I lived in Paris for a good bit of time, one half of my family is French. I can't get in touch with any of them via email/SM and don't want to tie up phone lines.

My heart is in the heart of the City of Lights tonight. The Bataclan Theater was in my general neighborhood-- 2.25 miles from my home when I lived there.

Prayers for all of France and especially my friends and family.

I think you guys can indulge me for a moment while I offer a few prayerful thoughts for the dead and their families; and for the wounded and critically injured, that their physical suffering might be eased, their bodies healed quickly, and their psychic pain short-lived.

Pray away, Bessie. The survivors need our prayers and strength.

I cannot get my head around the people held in that theatre and what they saw and went through in their last moments. I think they knew they would not walk out. What were they thinking? My heart hurts.

Sorry. I may need to step away for the night.

Shane McMillan on phone CNN

His voice is broken as he describes some of what he witnessed, and yet he declined to describe much of what he saw. He also os a photojournalist, and said he only took a few pics and just could not take more. Sounded completely broken.

Spoke to sister in Nice around 9:30pm or so (Paris time) and she knew about it then. I have heard since that first grenade exploded around 9:10pm (Paris time) at Stade de France.
