Something I always wonder who knew that KC was going out that evening and that she was even going to come back home after the wine tasting? How did the perp know this information. Unlike the community wide gatherings organized and publicized by the Cafe, the wine tasting sounded like it was an intimate event that required an invite. So how did the perp find out about and what was their plan if KC didn’t go and decided to stay at home. Just my own impression but it sounded like they needed her to be outside, like when she got out of her car, in order to carry out their vicious assault and murder. How did they plan to get to her if, for example, she accidentally overslept and as a result, ended up staying inside the home with the door locked? How would they have lured her outside? Would they have just knocked? Did they know her well enough to think she would even open the door and answer them?
How did they even know what time she would come back home? What if she just stayed at JFG’s until say midnight? Would they have stayed crouching in her yard all night? What if she did not come back that night at all? She could have ended up spending the night at JFG’s and then what? Would they have stayed and hid until morning or try again the next night?
How could they have known she would even come home alone? What if JFG rode back with her? Then what? According to the Guardian, KC was said to be healthy and strong and with all her strength and courage defended herself against the perp even while facing the terror and pain of being struck with a knife. KC bravely fought for her life and in her attempt to resist and protect herself as she was cruelly attacked, she likely caused the perp to receive their own wounds or injuries as well. If the perp found carrying out the horrible attack and murder of KC a challenge despite her being alone, vulnerable and unaware of the danger that awaited her upon her return home to her beloved villa, then how would they make of the possibility of facing both KC and FSG together? If he attacked he would likely lose, get both injured and arrested before prosecuted and punished under the full extent of the of law. Or he would have to wait until FSG leaves, even if he does not do so until the the next day and risk getting seen or caught in the meantime.
What would they have done if FSG arrived while the attack was still being carried out and tried to stop or interfere in it? What if he called LE or gave them identifying information? What if he used his car to drive towards the perp and separate them from her or to honk the horn and alert neighbors and such?
MOO, it just seems to me that someone knew KC’s and FSG’s precise schedules and plans that day well enough that day so they could anticipate where KC would be, when she would come back or they were willing to make multiple attempts and the chance to get her alone. It does seem like a crime of passion and if the perp was also waiting for the opportunity to get her alone to harm her could that mean they were local or staying nearby long-term since that type of intention and behavior could possibly require waiting and stalking someone for an extended period of time?
This is just my own speculation though but still I can’t help but wonder if true or possible and it was someone local were they not party guests themselves but watching knew of some, lived by them and saw them drive by on their return home? Is this how they anticipated what time to leave for KC’s knowing she would be leaving for her home too shortly? How did they know she planned to return home that night instead of spending it at FSG’s? Was it a coincidence that they were gone by the time FSG arrived or was it his phone call that tipped them off? What would have happened if FSG was there or showed up earlier? do so alone and when to leave by to avoid FSG.
RIP Karen Carter. Karen, her family and community deserve justice and answers for the heinous violence committed against her and for taking her from her loved ones and community.

I would agree that the act was somewhat impulsive. It is just my personal feeling that it was triggered by JFG helping her open a new account. As
@FromGermany1 has posted, the bank could have placed a call to South Africa. It is equally likely that the bank tellers immediately told everyone "in the know" that KC showed up in their bank with JFG. And then, even if a new bank account was "bad news" for AC, it takes some time to organize something from South Africa, as opposed to just one day to "settle the score" for someone local.
About knowing how to trap KC alone.
Well, maybe both KC and JFG were creatures of habit. First, I’d suspect that it was more convenient for G to visit KC as there was a daughter living with him, and KC was alone and her house was on the outskirts of the village. (I may be unaware of some details). So if he’d usually frequent her, then their schedule would be well-known to the locals.
On the other hand, I assume there were areas around KC’s house where one could wait in the dark. So maybe the assailant did wait for a few days.
Earlier newspapers mentioned a car parked a little bit farther next to the forest (they saw tire tracks). The person in the car had to wait till he saw the lights of Karen’s car. Or, he could get out of his car, cross the street and wait behind KC’s house. If KC came with G, he’d leave and drive back the next evening.
After all, there is an option that the man parked his car, walked into the house of MLA or even another neighbor, waited till KC would return and quickly stepped outside. We know that MLA was ruled out, she had an alibi for that night. But could someone else use her house? I think it is less plausible but not impossible.
About the “intimate party”. I may over trust Tremolat’s WOM, but it is a powerful instrument. I bet everyone knew about that “intimate wine tasting”.
But considering that it was Karen’s wine being tasted, could there be someone expected to be invited, who was not? Karen knew the owners of the local wineries, both in France and in SA. Was someone “snubbed” this time?
Wine was KC’s hobby. I hope LE looked at the wine angle carefully.
