Well said. I think amore effective presentation would be something like:
My client knew that GM was retired law enforcement-and knew that he had recently been "re-deputized" to respond to trespassers.
My client then impulsively joined the chase only after GM had repeatedly pointed out the trespasser and called for him to be detained. In joining the chase, my client sincerely believed that he was under the direction of a police officer.
My client was not armed and made one attempt to trap AA (at GM's direct command- of course). My client then was shocked at GM's needless escalation and dropped back.
He was then horrified at the actions that GM and TM later took. My client is now eager to talk to the DA. She should call my office immediately....
I'll be your co-counsel for Roddy's defense.
Slight adjustments to your presentation:
1. About Roddy's knowledge of GM - perfect.
2. About how/why he joined in the chase:
My client was in his front yard, was alerted to something amiss by the sound of yelling, so was immediately on guard. GM shouted something at him as he sped by, TM driving, but he couldn't tell what was going on. Being unsure, he didn't call 911, but did get in his truck. He was pulling out and about to head in the direction they had gone in, when somehow he got in the middle of things, and as he found out afterwards, accidentally blocked AA from running in that direction.
3. My client heard and saw what seemed like escalation by GM and TM, but still didn't understand what was happening. So, he followed GM and TM, but dropped back. He decided to begin video-taping what was going on when he saw the MMs speed past and get in front of AA.
Truthfully, my client became concerned that the MMs had pulled him into a dangerous situation, so the videotaping was to protect himself as well as to capture what was going on.
He was shocked to round the bend and see TM outside the truck, in the middle of the road, with his shotgun, and to see GM standing up in back of the truck, also armed.
He swerved his truck to the side to try to avoid putting himself in danger or contributing to the confusion in what was already a bad situation that was quickly getting worse.
My client, like everyone who has seen his video, was horrified by what came next and what he saw. He wishes he had called 911 the first instant he saw AA being chased by the MMs, and will always regret that he didn't, even if that might not have changed the outcome, given how quickly everything happened.
He is of course eager to cooperate with the DA in any way he can. Not just to clear his own name, but because he fully agrees there must be justice done in this case for AA, and for his family.
