GUILTY GA - Ahmaud Arbery, 25, jogger, fatally shot by former LEO and son, Brunswick, Feb 2020 *Arrests* #6

A Georgia judge has thrown out a felony case against former Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney Jackie Johnson who was on trial accused of hindering the police investigation into the murder of Ahmaud Arbery.

He was the Black jogger chased and killed by three white men on Feb. 23, 2020 — but no arrests were made until more than two months later after video of the crime came out. The case was among those that sparked a national racial justice outcry that year.

Johnson was facing a felony charge of violating her oath of office. But Senior Judge John R. Turner agreed with her defense attorney that the indictment should be dismissed on a technical flaw.

Judge Turner offered sympathetic words to members of Arbery's family as he tossed out the case, saying he will never understand why Arbery's killers were not arrested sooner.
....
Leaving the courtroom, Arbery's mother, Wanda Cooper Jones said "the law is the law," according to the Atlanta Journal -Constitution. "But this was a win for us, because we got to find out what really went on." Initially Arbery's family was told he was killed in self-defense.

In a statement, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr said his office had fought to ensure justice was served. "We stand by the case we presented, and we regret that the Jury won't get to decide."

What a miscarriage of justice! Her obfuscation and helping her friend Gregory the suspect was obvious. They should have been arrested immediately. She had a conflict of interest.
Can someone please tell me what exactly the DA did that warranted these charges? There were the allegations but I never heard anything that she actually did.

The allegations were that she hand picked the DA to replace her after she recused herself, selecting one she already knew because of prior conversations about the case would not move forward and charge her good friend and former employee Greg McMichael and his son Travis with teh murder they committed. She recused herself immediately but continued to engage in many cell phone conversations with Greg presumably about the case after her recusal.

I believe she did just as alleged and I believe that was very wrong. The judge appears to believe it too but had to dismiss because of a technicality.

On Wednesday, Turner ruled in favor of a defense motion that the state attorney general’s office attached the wrong oath to the indictment, rendering the felony charge invalid.

“Frankly, this is a decision I didn’t want to make,” Turner said. But he said he felt like the defense’s request to dismiss the felony charge “needs to be granted.”

"I am so thankful people have not forgotten what happened in February of 2020," she said.

The Run with Maud event has become a tradition, as Georgia lawmakers designated Feb. 23 as Ahmaud Arbery Day to honor his life and legacy.

As the run concluded, Jones expressed gratitude to those who continue to stand by her side.

Wow, this one surprises me on the directed verdict. Speculating IMO…. but have to wonder if some or all evidence that could have been used was presented? Gathered? Assessed? Or has something else occurred? SMH. MOO
