GA - Josiah Noel Seright, 3 1/2 months old, dies after being left in wet blanket next to air conditioner - Aug 7, 2024

So my question is, was it just hypothermia, or was the baby exposed to some pathogen from A/C? It is a possibility.

Few remember how the name Legionella come to existence. It was a convention of American Legionnaires in 1976 in PA, and the culprit was air conditioning in the hotel. Legionnaires' Disease FAQ.

So what I want to say, unless they took samples of water from the a/c hotel unit to show that it was well-maintained, this case has not been investigated, IMO.

Legionnaires’ disease has an incubation period of 2 to 10 days (but up to 16 days has been recorded in some outbreaks).
Death occurs through progressive pneumonia with respiratory failure and/or shock and multi-organ failure.
Untreated Legionnaires’ disease usually worsens during the first week.

So I think it wouldn't have been Legionnaires, because he didn't have progressive pneumonia.
(ETA: That we know of.)

Hypothermia makes sense.

Still this case strikes me as an accident, not negligence, with what's currently been reported.
We definitely need to see the case laid out. IMO.

But if they just meant to help the baby stay comfortable and made a terrible mistake, imagine how they felt when they realized what happened.

Parents, grandmother cleared of murder in death of 3-month-old, Georgia officials say By Tanasia Kenney Updated February 21, 2025 4:06 PM|

…The infant was thought to have died from hypothermia after investigators said his mother, September Seright, wrapped the baby in a wet blanket and left him near a motel air conditioning unit last summer. A recent review of an autopsy and medical records determined the evidence didn’t support murder charges against the child’s parents and grandmother, the district attorney’s office said Feb. 20, WRDW reported. “While the autopsy lists the cause and manner of death as undetermined, the temperature of the child was greater than 95 degrees Fahrenheit at the time of his discovery, ruling out hypothermia as a cause of death,” the office told The Augusta Chronicle in a statement.

Very glad that they were cleared. Too sad that the family was accused so fast, they probably had no time to grieve properly.

My condolences and best wishes to the family.

Thank goodness! IMO I felt like the murder charges were too intense even if Josiah *did* die of hypothermia- But now we know that he didn't.

I agree. It sounds like this family meant well for their baby and didn't foresee danger. I hope they get some help, their own apartment, and can heal from how they have been treated.

Thank you so much for finding this. I was so disturbed by the charges and arrest that never looked to fit the circumstances.
