Per Mindi's mother, Mindi and NK met on a dating app.
Nothing wrong with it but... everything sounds wrong about it, now.

Just watched it, thank you.

As I suspected, "defense (DW) says both Nicholas and Mindi told people about running from McIntyre".

Let's wait for those persons to say that in court... under oath.

Replying to myself for context. Per Mindi' s mother, both NK and Mindi told her they feared for their lives. Something to do with Microsoft. solving an algorithm, and giving him company stock etc. This all started late 2018, early 2019, and that's when they started moving.
When asked who conveyed this information to her, Mindi's mother says: "probably my daughter".

So, IIRC, NK "killed" Mindi sometime in 2018, in a car crash and then sometime in 2021 from Covid.
I agree with you, @fred&edna, NK was already brainwashing Mindi and working on a way to get rid of her. Poor NK couldn't afford another divorce settlement, uh?

Per Mindi's mother, they communicated by Signal app... How convenient. I bet Jim McIntyre also used Signal.

Per Mindi's mother, Mindi was scared to death to leave out of the house, although they had a security team (???). Mindi's mother never saw the security team.

Quoting @fred&edna: "this case has now exceeded bizarre".

I felt bad for victim Mindi’s mother. I believe she (she even said she did) trusted NK. Further, I think she also respected him and unknowingly may have been gaslighted by him. I suspect he had charisma; although his mask is off now; and his pure evil is real. I hope she (Mindi’s mother) is not blaming herself for trusting him, it happens, unfortunately. moo

Sorry, I'm still catching up
If i got that right, the "security team" emailed Mindi's mom and said "NK had been in a car accident" and, weeks later, she is told (by email again) NK died.

Ok... this seals it for me. Lies, nothing but lies. Good luck again with Jim McIntyre... No one will believe that story.

Last hour + of testimony for anyone that missed it like me.

@genjustlaw

XVI. Nicholas Kassotis Trial — SIGNAL AND MOVING
Nick and Mindy mostly communicated via Signal text messages; only one phone call occurred after Mindy’s death. They moved their belongings by packing and using a vehicle, possibly an SUV. Only a few baby items were present, some given by the witness. A break was requested and granted.

XVII. Nicholas Kassotis Trial — VANISHING ACT
Mindy’s dad, Frank Mebane III, testified that Nick claimed to need security due to secret Microsoft work but never showed proof. Frank had to leave the house daily during Nick’s “work hours” and text via Signal to return. Nick and Mindy said they were changing names to “Stark” for safety; Frank saw packages and a briefcase with that name.Frank never met coworkers, security, or saw surveillance footage after a visit from Nick’s father. He had hip surgery Nov 30, 2022. Last saw Mindy just before Thanksgiving (Nov 23), looking very unwell. When he returned from Hilton Head that Sunday, Nick said she was hospitalized for blood pressure. No hospital name was given. Mindy was never seen again.

XVIII. Nicholas Kassotis Trial — CROSS & CLOSE
Defense highlighted Frank Mebane’s financial expertise and intelligence, arguing he still believed Nick and Mindy's claims despite being skeptical. Frank admitted Mindy, a bright woman, introduced him to the Signal app, and both told him to stay out of the house noon–3 p.m. daily — leaving a window where he couldn’t confirm who entered or if Mindy received medical visits. He never saw death paperwork or questioned why Nick didn’t sue the hospital. Frank confirmed Mindy said the name change to “Stark” was for security but couldn’t recall exact reasons. Final testimony ended with court adjourned until 8:45 a.m. tomorrow.

I am floored that the defense is going full bore with the notion that this security team actually existed. This could wind up being worse than Odinism, which I didn’t think would be possible.

The ending though...

On paper NK had a very impressive pedigree. He was a Lt Cmdr in the Navy JAG, with a BA from Boston University, a JD from Northeastern, and was working on an LLM from Georgetown (although I don't think he ever got the masters).

I think we tend to trust people with stellar resumes. And maybe we give them leeway when we shouldn't. Not blaming the parents at all, because this "secret Microsoft work" becomes much more believable given his background, then if he had been, for example, a community college grad. I'm sure I would have believed him as well.

and, it appears nk did introduce and develop his 'jack mcintyre' character much earlier and much more than i first believed.

i'm very puzzled as to what type of ruse nk used to convince mindi to tell her parents she was pregnant.
i'm also curious as to the eviction filed against the 'security company'... was it actually filed in court. was this 'security company' paying for mindi and nk to live with mindi's family. what monies changed hands, if any.
maybe, i am the only one with so many questions surrounding this beyond bizarre case.

“Mindi had tested positive again” is absolutely how I would describe my wife being pregnant with a child we had wanted for so long…

This guy is quite the talker. And not quite the type of emotions I’d expect from someone who either didn’t know his wife was dead or was at least not okay with his wife being dead and dismembered and remains scattered in rural Georgia.

NOW: Nicholas Kassotis' third wife, whom he married after Mindi is on the stand. He married her the month before he was arrested. She annulled the marriage. She knew him as Nick Stark. She said in Sept. 2022 Nick messaged her on Twitter telling her he had bought some of her books. (Mindi was still alive and married to Nick) https://youtube.com/watch?v=DxSFPWioQaE

They conversed online. The first time she spoke to Nicholas Kassotis on the phone was Nov. 2023. (Mindi was killed at the end of November).

Dec. 16, 2023, Nicholas Kassotis drove to PA to see Samantha. She said this is the first time they met in person.

Samantha said she's a horror fiction writer, and Nicholas Kassotis also wrote in that genre. I read this substack before the trial - appears to be Kassotis under his pen name, KJ Stark. The date of this post and the topic are very interesting. This is just after marrying Samantha and about 5 months after Mindi was killed. https://substack.com/home/post/p-117050445?source=queue

Nicholas Kassotis told Samantha that his wife had passed away in Oct. 2022 when they were conversing on Twitter direct messages. (This is a month before Mindi was killed.)

So based on the second half of court today, sounds like he’s really trying to set up a claim that this mysterious Jim guy actually killed and hacked up Mindi, and dumped her body in the woods.

Does he actually think anyone will buy this, or is he just that much of a narcissistic sociopath that he can’t see beyond his brilliant plan?

I have heard that the name change from Kassotis to Stark was done legally, but I haven't seen any evidence of it. Either way, I do not believe his third wife knew of his prior identity.
He stated in the interview with GBI that was played in court today that he changed his name in St. Louis on his way to Pennsylvania. I imagine this will come up again with the actual legal document, maybe Monday.
