I don't think this was a burglary....Nothing was messed with at all. And how many burglars take the time for decapitation?
It truly feels like a hit.
But why? Why would these sweet people be the target of such a thing?

Jabarn, refer back to Gary Hilton. MHE's torso was over 1/2 mile from where her head was buried. GMH said that this was to prevent forensic identification. Although he had poured bleach over her torso.. I didn't buy this explanation. He had hidden clean blouses & a white trash bag near the head for later recovery, imo.

Imo, many escalated ritual sexual predators(T Bundy/GMH, etc.)collect the heads of their victims for various purposes.

JDahmer. Ugh! Keyes! Eww! Just seems like these creeps try to outdo each other. We get rid of one and another one pops up! Sick! Sick! Sick!

Just had an awful thought. I wonder if there are gangs in Greensboro/eatonton. According to Athens Banner Herald newspaper there are gangs in Athens. Could this possibly be an initiation to get into a particular gang? Anybody know any thing about gang initiations?

*President of the Eatonton Duplicate Bridge Club.

"She describes her as a "kind, sweet lady" and*says Dermond's been playing bridge at a cultural arts center in Eatonton, twice a week, two hours at a time, for years."

No Alzheimer's at play here with her! Finishing crossword puzzles in the paper, this woman was sharp as a tack! IMO

gngr-snap, how many times, and in how many cases have we heard this statement;

"Shocked..... that something like that could happen like this in such a quiet community", she said. "This is not the type of place where this kind of thing happens...so I think that everyone is truly in...shock"..

I'm sure LE is still ruling out the family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren ? Not sleuthing them, just that we all know that LE starts with those closest to the victim/victims and work out. Still would be checking out the neighborhood and the woods.

Not really, but I just watched a show on HLN about a woman who was killed and rumors started about it being gang-related. The questions were asked:
1. If LE should bring in the gang leader and question him.
2. Approach the gang on the street and question them together.
3. Secretly approach gang members separately and ask them about the murder.

The answer was 3. You have to be secretive when questioning gangs apparently. I would guess the same would be true of the mob.

I keep thinking about Gary Hilton, too. I remember back at the time learning that a lot of "drifters" with shady backgrounds were camping in the national parks. Since that is such a woodsy area, I'm wondering if there could be homeless camps. I know not in that neighborhood but nearby. Any national parks nearby?

The thought of possibly another serial killer is terrifying.

I would guarantee that everyone's security cameras are working now and everyone is locking their doors and the guards are looking for that sticker on all automobiles.

I'm shocked that her brain functions on that level at 87! Lol

Just an off the top of my head thought. Gangs aren't going to operate in lake side golf course communities.
They'd stick out like sore thumbs.
Especially if the home was accessed by water.
I don't think gangs behead people either for the most part.

More like drive bys....

I think this was someone they knew and wrongly trusted. Perhaps someone on hard times they had been helping out.

Night everyone! I hope Mrs. Dermond is found alive. She sounds like a genuinely nice person from what I have read and she has a beautiful smile in her picture. Wishing everyone an early Happy Mother's Day! This story makes me want to give my mom a big hug! :offtobed: :heartbeat:

****They will behead rival gang members though.
Nothing is impossible these days.
Could be a golf club gang.

I don't know if this link might help provide a better view of the community outside of Reynolds Plantation. The Publix is in the Lake Oconee Village along with most any other goods/services a resident might need. Take a look at the map and you can see how far the village is from the town of Eatonton also.

Yes Destini, Oconee Lake is also the Oconee Wildlife Management area which is a State Park/Forest patrolled by GA DNR. Due to budget cuts and the vast forested areas of logging roads, etc. A person/s could ride backroads for days and never run across a DNR Ranger... GMH was ran off of a hunting club in this area for trespassing in 2007.

Looking at the picture taken by helicopter (I assume) of their home, it was extremely wooded. There were homes nearby but lots of woods surrounding each of the homes. I suppose by now they've done a thorough search of those areas, but I wonder if they have brought in cadaver dogs to search yet.

Yes, as per press conference, cadaver dogs were brought in.

A botched burglary is possible (as is anything with this case) but these would be unique (professional ? well-prepared) burglars... as they decapitated one victim, then leave the home so VERY clean with 87 year old Mrs Dermond and Mr Dermond's head in tow. (just my opinion, of course)

It seems to me that two main questions keep popping up -- and we've all taken shots at answering them, usually considering them separately.

(1) Why the decapitation? to easily remove evidence (bullet); to send a message; psychopath's thrill-kill fantasy; organized crime/drug cartel signature ...??? (Others?)

(2) Why leave Mr. Dermond there but remove Mrs. Dermond (living or deceased)? to remove evidence (bullet lodged in chest, for example); for possible ransom/demands; to (try to) get information/access accounts; psychopath's thrill-kill/possibly sexual fantasy; some kind of emotional attachment/hesitation on the part of the killer/s; couple was seized elsewhere (even just outside, on the grounds) and Mrs. Dermond was never brought back to the residence; just took her as "insurance" (hostage) in case killer/s was interrupted while leaving the scene, etc. ...? (Others?)

Would it help if we consider these two questions specifically together?

My thoughts on #2:
If the murderer/s would have killed Mrs. Dermond and left her there with her husband, the family would not have to agonize about where she is and if she is still alive. I think the killer/s wanted to not only horrify everyone with the decapitation but continue to cause mental anguish with the uncertainty of what happened to Mrs. Dermond.

Will her fate be revealed on Mother's Day? That would certainly be sending a message to the family. Was this the plan?

I have wondered if the Dermonds weren't the target at all. Could someone have been hired to carry out a hit and entered the wrong house? Could the head have been taken as proof the hit was carried out? I am clueless on where Mrs Dermond may be.

This is really haunting me.

With Spokeo, Google and property records it really is hard to stay anonymous and hide where you live. In most cases it is used with very good intentions. Not sure about all gated communities but theirs didn't have a street view. Is it common not to have street views in gated areas?
