This is a long shot, but I think it is worth posting here. Another elderly woman missing from about 3 - 4 hours away in the same time frame. Foul play suspected. Her car was found at a boat landing in Ridgeland, SC. SC SC - Julia Ann Mudgett, 77, Hollywood, 4 May 2014 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community
I think Mr. D. went outside for some reason. Maybe to get the newspaper if it was early on Saturday morning or maybe he heard a sound during the night and went to investigate. He could have been lured out.
Another possible homicide of an elderly woman.
Police will not discuss.

Generally, psychiatric problems are treated by an MD (psychiatrist), who has extensive experience in this field. A psychologist deals principally with emotional issues, not mental illness.
There are differences between sociopaths and psychopaths, too.
I am of the opinion this "doctor" has nothing to do with the Dermonds or this case.
BTW, has anyone found an obituary for their son, Mark?
he's not mentioned in the obituary linked above and that confuses me
It then lists all his living children, etc. Mark died so he wouldn't have 'survived' Russell's death. JMOHe is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley Wilcox Dermond...

I think it is the way they worded the obituary. It states:

The Bluffton address is a pretty run-down, seedy-looking area...
Toogoodoo Road in Hollywood where the other woman was from looks lower middle-class also...
Elderly women, but definitely not the same setting as Reynolds Plantation.

The map of the distance between murders
True but, both areas have a Ritz Carlton "near".
Just making an observation.

My 80 year old father's Linked-in account lists him as an investment banker in Dallas.(retired, Georgia) I asked him why and he had no idea, my aunt sent him a link to join and he couldn't remember what he clicked on. I wouldn't read much into that.I agree with Annie1004 and others who think the LinkedIn profile is a fake and does not mean anything. Most 80-year-olds do not use LinkedIn.
To clarify the bit about canoeing. There happens to be a Russell Dermond who was born in 1936. He competed in the Olympics in the 1950's and 1960's. Not the same man as the one that was murdered.
You are right as to it being the wording, but most often it will say 'proceeded in death by .......'.
I think the details included in obits are often more about the writer of the obit than the deceased. One of the surviving children most certainly wrote this obit - and maybe they would just as soon forget Mark ever lived. Family dynamics. My guess is, if Shirley had written it it would have mentioned Mark.
