I don't like the way Sills said when the camera was on, "you want the stench of death? Here I'll rub it in you"

HOW RUDE!

Eh, I'm going to give Sills a pass on that one. The guy's stressed, he's probably running on little sleep, he just got back from seeing the murdered body of an elderly woman in god-knows-what condition, he's suddenly found himself in the middle of a high-profile investigation (a position he's probably never been in before), and he's being barraged with questions by reporters in what might be the most important case of his whole career. Obviously he shouldn't have said that, but I know I'd probably get snappy too if I were in his position.

Sure wonder more about the "weird phone calls" their son Keith said the family has received since they found out about Mr. Dermond's death.

I certainly hope that LE have set up a trace on this son's phone line, to catch any further calls - to hear specifically what's being said by the caller, and to try to trace the call.

I, too, would like to know what was said in these alleged strange phone calls, and how they relate to KD's assertion that this tragedy was somehow related to cult. That's really out there, IMO.

True. I can't fault him. I'd be coming off that boat retching I am sure. I would be unable to speak.

Lots of thoughts running through my head. Hopefully there will be some news as to possible suspects soon...

I think he is over his head, having never seen a case the likes of this. On top of it all, no motive, no clues, no head (why no head? hmmmm?). "Obviously" a murder, one victim missing a head, the other found dead in a lake. But why? The victims life squeaky clean, everybody passes polygraph, nobody saw anything or won't talk. The family has no skeletons. God knows the skeletons would tumble out by day 4 in this day and age.

Originally I though Ninja's, yes we have them in my neighborhood in Florida. Sloppy ones at that.

But more and more I think nature has/is taking its course and the perpetrator will be a surprise to everyone (not me).

I will score another solved case, just as I did with the Chicago kid who drove his car into Belmont Harbor. Did it by "remote viewing", (Thanks Google Earth) I figured he turned left when he should'a made a right turn to go home. That happens when you bar hop.

It is probably a crank. There are idiots out there that can't help themselves but make folks upset by calling after a death to either reveal something about the deceased (ex girlfriends) or college kids getting their yucks by saying they are with the Insane Clown Posse and they grabbed your mother.

It was my impression that he called the FBI because he didn't like the way the 911 call was responded to.

I want to know who did this and why (it seems) as though there was a specific effort made to keep the victims, body fluids, odors, Decomp etc... out of the home. Why would they care how they left the home after the murders? It's not like they would have to pay for Service Master to clean up a murder scene. The killer wanted the property to remain untouched.
Kids in cults and killers that send messages don't care about the mess.
Do we have an OCD killer now?

Lots of care and concern about the residence yet none what so ever for the residents.

This is gonna help them ID the killer.

Missing wife of decapitated Georgia man found dead in lake
By Chelsea J. Carter and AnneClaire Stapleton, CNN

Atlanta (CNN)

Shirley Dermond's body was found in Lake Oconee, south of Athens, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills told reporters Friday.

"We now, unfortunately, know that Shirley Dermond was murdered," Sills said.

Sills declined to discuss the condition of the body other than to say, "the head was not removed or anything like that.

Missing Putnam County woman's body found in Lake Oconee

11Alive Staff, WXIA
11:03 p.m. EDT May 16, 2014

"While we were riding towards the place I was going to go fishing, I noticed something that looked strange -- out of the ordinary -- so we approached it," said fisherman Dennis Higgs. "When we got close enough to see what it might be -- we thought it might be a buoy or something like that -- when we got closer to it, we realized it was more than a buoy. It was something else, so we backed off from it. I think at 2:24, I called 9-1-1."

Sheriff's officials confirmed that the body found was Shirley Dermond's.

My guess is that the whole scene played out with a violent confrontation in the garage, moving to the yard and down by the water. The "killer" never entered the house. RD never left the garage.

Interesting. The autopsy will not be performed by the same ME. I wonder why they are handling this differently now.
Was it because she was found in a another county?
This the GBI. Why now?

"Sills said the woman’s body will be taken to the state crime lab in Atlanta, where a cause of death will be determined. Dental records will be used to identify her conclusively."

I am with you on this one. I think these folks may have been held hostage in their home for quite awhile before all the violence started. Most likely in an extortion attempt to get them to cough up some money, and a lot of it. When this tactic failed, Mr Dermond was killed in front of his wife to coerce Shirley to cooperate.

The fact that nothing seemed to be missing from the home suggests to me that the perps came in and left via the water. How much "stuff" are you going to load into a small boat without it being totally obvious to any passerby or witness ?? Any small boat that is crossing the water that is loaded up with household goods and personal belongings is going to draw a hell of a lot of attention when it pulls up at a dock.

No, this was about money. Someone thought these folks were loaded to the gills with it and were banking that they had a whole bunch of it stored around the house somewhere.

Mrs. Dermond may or may not have been loaded into the boat in an effort to terrorize her into submission. If she got to yelling and hollering and tried to draw attention to the situation, then most likely she was sliced and diced and dumped overboard to quieten her down. Of course the very same thing could have occurred right down at her own dock. I'm sure her husbands head is in the water as well, it just hasn't been discovered yet.

Either way, the perps ended up committing senseless murders and probably got absolutely nothing out of it. The fact that so far they committed almost the perfect crime, is just sheer luck on their part.

The two guys that kidnapped Holly Bobo seemed to have committed the perfect crime too, and they are just a couple of whacked-out meth addicts.
Total losers who contribute absolutely nothing to society, but they pulled off a crime that had everybody stumped for over 3 years.

This will turn out to be very much the same thing.

I don't know why so many are commenting on how he answered the questions upon finding the woman's body. Have you ever seen a body in the water after all that time? The decomp would be horrible but you could still tell certain things and considering her husbands head was removed I'm going to take a guess she may of been stabbed or something but who knows what the final cause of her death was. He can't tell specifics, - no one can at this point. Probably just obvious signs of trauma and with decomp who know's what is what. I'm glad they are all on top of it and getting answers and moving forward. Hope they find who did this. RIP and my condolences to their family! xoxo

Maybe because they were not killed at their home but taken there after the fact. I think he was murdered elsewhere and they returned and left him there in his garage! JMO

Pardon me if this has already been posted. Going back and reading all the great posts I missed after checking out last night.

Body of Beheaded Man's Wife Likely Found in Georgia Lake

The FBI had offered a $20,000 reward for information specifically leading to the arrest of Shirley Dermond's kidnapper or kidnappers — meaning the fishermen who found the body don't qualify.

Looks like Mr. Higgs won't be buying that new boat after all.

This is starting to sound like some sick "Weekend at Bernie's" movie. Carrying corpses, possibly headless ones, around in a boat and/or car. Returning one to his garage
minus his head and sinking the other body in the lake...
No fear I guess.
