This is a mexican drug cartel article but has reasons for beheading....not that I believe it's mexican cartel, just trying to find insight on beheading, what's the message and to whom"

"This is all part of a plan to use publicity to control territory through terror."

Experts suggest that the drug gangs have several motives. First, they seek to use beheadings to cow the citizenry from squealing on them and to pressure local authorities to collaborate. Second, the gangs try to out-macho each other with greater acts of macabre violence, frightening rivals in a murderous spiral.

At link, Sheriff,
"... said Shirley Dermond’s absence still is being treated as a kidnapping."

And yet, no media appearances by the kids, begging for her return, that her fam loves her, misses her, Mom needs her medicine, etc.

What different about this case?

Do they already know Mom is not coming back?

Pure speculation on my part, w no factual basis re this case.

Ditto, you and I are on the same page.

JMO- there is something in regards to Shirley D that tells them she didn't leave on her own because above all else it's something she wouldn't or couldn't leave behind whether it was by habit or as a means to survive.
The fact that these item(s) were found points to her demise...
Was it...
Meds? Insulin, syringes, B/P meds glaucoma drops, blood thinners, an inhaler...* I know it was said they had no health issues, seriously what 87 yr old takes ZERO meds... a few, but most are on blood thinners or something to lessen the likelihood of stroke etc.
Wedding rings left behind ? Maybe she never took them off?
Eyeglasses?
A beloved pet?
B/P cuff?
TED hose/stockings?
Allergy bracelet?
There are so many questions I have about the scene.
I ain't got diddlee.

I was hoping to come here and read that Mrs. D was found. I can't get over how horrible this crime is. My heart breaks for the D's children, grandchildren, neighbors...everyone.

General questions,
Why was Mr. D beheaded?
Where was he beheaded?
Where is Mrs. D?
Did they have any pets?

Who last spoke to the D's on the phone?

I have a feeling that she may be located Memorial Day weekend by a dog on vacation with his owners.
She is there on someone's property perhaps unbeknownst to them.
While the area may have been accessed by water, I am feeling a canoe or kayak(silent)- there just isn't room for a body, you'd likely tip over.
the body was not put in water...
It's on land or garbage picked it up.

Good question about what Mrs. would possibly need that was left behind.
Even my 83 yr old MIL , who is sharp as a tack and in good health, needs daily meds for HBP, blood thinners among others.

The family owned 35ish fast food restaurants at one time......
was there a disgruntled manager somewhere ????? idk

I think she's in the woods.....near the house.

I had to chuckle..no disrespect meant towards the Ds..my dh has a kayak and there's barely enough room for him.

Just for the record, I don't think gators are the culprit in the Dermonds' case either. However, if there were gators in the area the perps could have fed the any remains including the head to gators. They feed on dead prey too. Gruesome, but would be a way to dispose of remains, but I don't think gators are a part of the Dermonds' disappearance.

I hear ya.
Pigs would be more likely to consume a body in that part of Georgia than a gator.
Perp would need a vehicle to get to a pig farm...
There is 400 + pounds of fish per acre in that lake!
THERE ARE NO GATORS.
If there were, the fish population would drop significantly.

Why such a low reward? Do the children or friends of the Dermonds have bankers, investors, or friends that are willing to up the reward to a much higher amount? As I have seen in past cases, reward money does not help, however, this case needs a much higher reward to even try to get a response! Somebody up that money to $75,000 - $100,000 and see if new helpful tips come in.

Thank you! $20,000 seems low to me too! WTH? :moo: The Dermonds lived in a very well-to-do gated community. I'm assuming the children are doing well financially  and aren't selling "their story" to the highest tabloid bidder. I am thinking $100,000 at a minimum.

tomkat, yesterday we discussed Sheriff Sills refusal to request the GBI to assist in the investigation. In fact, almost word for word in the ms media article; Why would Sheriff Sills not utilize all available resources?

In a case of this magnitude and importance. It is critical that LE loose their egos, imo. Many missing/murdered person's investigations grow cold due to 'Jurisdictional Linkage Blindness and Perceived Hypothesis'..and a few other reasons that are all present, or soon will be in the Dermond's case, imo.

Imo, the GBI should be invited in if for no other reason, they may have worked a prior case in GA, with the same or similar MO or circumstances, etc...Also investigators/manpower will be overwhelmed by this time, sleep deprived, exhausted, etc. The GBI has some very competent and experienced special agents to assist and take up some of the slack..

Foxfire, I will defer to your reasoning in this case. You are very knowledgeable and if you think local LE is burying their heads in the proverbial sand like an ostrich I would have to agree as I do believe you know what you are talking to about in regards to these crimes. You're a wealth of information and I appreciate your invaluable input.

they love everthing in FL ! lol, they're like ants, they get into everything

And then of course there are those darn ninjas. They're everywhere! Heck in one ID show the ninja did it! He ran down the street in full ninja regalia. He was still dressed like a ninja when LE caught him.

understand, I believe Mrs. Dermond is sadly passed. I believe she was killed at the same time as her husband. I cannot imagine a reason to kidnap this woman leaving an beheaded corpse of her husband behind.

The messages are mixed. Someone who wants a family they want to extort something from does not behead the victim's husband.

How could anyone ever in a million years trust someone who did that to keep their word and turn over a living parent?

Sorry this case is disturbing. These are my disturbed thoughts on this case.

But I do pay careful attention to what is said by LE. The wording the phrasing.

Thank you tlcya! Your wisdom and knowledge in these cases is most appreciated. I like the way you think. Paying careful attention to what LE says is great advice. They know what they're doing. At this point, I feel the case is under control and in good hands. Protecting the crime scene is of utmost importance and in viewing the video posted at the HLN site the home and boat dock area are still marked off with crime tape and a police presence is there on the water and they are watching that home like a. . . . well like a hawk.

And might I say it will be a tiny breed whose owner just paid a few Benjamin's for a groom, nail paint and pretty bow. This pup would be the likely dog to find any remains on a property that has yet to be checked.

Speaking of which... have home owners been asked to scout their property for anything unusual?
Decomp alone should be obvious, but maybe not to some of the elders.
Could she and his head be buried on the golf course?
Sand trap?
