exclusive and secure are not necessarily one and the same. :cow:

Posting to BBM above: Just flowing with your notion. If a stranger, the perp would have no idea whether taking Mr.D to the house would show perp on a security cam (maybe even one monitored). Risky to chance if you don't know.

Also, on the notion discussed earlier of strangers around the D's dock that Mr. D may have confronted... it would have to be one evil devil to choose to kill them rather than get in the boat and leave.... or cuss um out and leave. I know those kind of folks exist, but it takes a special twisted mind to choose killing - especially beheading. If that is the case..... the community has a serious problem.

LOL, Foxfire - I don't live in a gated community and have binoculars. And use them regularly.

JustyThoughts, binoculars, and eagle eyes too, huh?

I just feel I have to say an obvious thing: The king has no clothes.

Why would people pays lots of money to live in a gated "secure" community only to live on a lake, with docks, that can easily be accessed by anyone at any time? And to have docks with no surveillance cameras? I would be very uneasy if I lived in this community right now....although I do believe the Dermonds were targeted (or that's how I am feeling at the moment).

Yep. False sense of security. A sham. I feel the Dermonds were targeted because of the location of their home and the assumption they would have a great deal of cash and/or a debit card. They had neither or were not willing to give up the cash. WE know they did not have a debit card so there would be no pin # to access cash. Angered the perp and he killed Mr. Dermond and ultimately Mrs. Dermond.

In my opinion, one doesn't necessarily need tools for a beheading. Piano wire, leader wire and guitar wire can be used.

Perhaps, although I doubt shear strength and piano wire could account for the clean cutting that LE believes occurred with Mr. D.
And then we must account for the lack of bloody mess. LE is thinking Mr. D was murdered and then beheaded somewhere other than his home. Then the body was returned to the home without much ado. Someone or some people had this planned, or at least that is my feeling at the moment.

I don't think they were after cash....but that is just a gut feeling I have and respect your take on things.
Thieves will take anything....wallets, credit cards, jewelry. I've even heard of thieves knocking out car windows for small change.

If these perps were thieves, I doubt they would be sufficiently prepared to murder two people without a trace of mess. And I do believe they would have disturbed things and taken things from the home.

Certainly there is another motive which we have not yet surmised....

If LE, by following the lead of ME, believe that the beheading was accomplished in a very neat, expeditious manner, then that makes me think precision and post death defamation.

hmm how does that play into the intruder via water theory for me?

If this crime was committed by a stranger Mr. D confronted on their dock why would they return his body to his garage? Why not dispose of him in the same manner/location as his wife? Carrying his body to the garage was most certainly deliberate and meant to shock and horrify. Why the garage and not the house? Maybe the garage isn't connected to the security system? Or could the killer(s) have known a neighbor would be more likely find him in the garage than in the house?

I believe the police are trying to find someone who is extremely intelligent. One who knows how to play mind games. Most sociopaths have higher intelligence.

Why would he do it this way?

So that all of us would immediately think it had to be personal against the Dermonds themselves. Imo, right now he is watching everything he can about HIS case. While everyone is so caught up in it being personal he sits back, and chuckles to himself thinking of us as mere puppets on a string that he can easily manipulate. He also enjoys the cat and mouse game and it pleasures him greatly that LE cant figure out what he did and why.

Only a sociopathic knows why they do the things they do or why they do them a certain way.

I believe he wanted everyone to be very aware that a murderer was on the loose in that community. He didn't want anyone to mistake them as just missing people. He also wanted to scare the crap out of everyone there knowing they would cringe in fear that someone unknown was going around cutting a head off of an elderly man and kidnapping an elderly woman. The more horrific they can make their crimes the more unique they think they are from other murderers.

There have been sociopaths who decapitated their victims...discarded the torso yet kept the head with them as a trophy. I think I remember one murderer who even put the head of his victim outside of his window on the ground facing in his direction, iirc.

I have not commented on the community and the security both implied and real of the Dermond residence til now.

What I will say is - wow. But if we are asking these questions and holding this exclusive gated community responsible or in low regard, do we not have to question why prospective buyers did not do likewise if security was something that was a priority?

Devil's Advocate.

exclusive and secure are not necessarily one and the same. :cow:

True. As far as we have been told, nothing was taken. The house was immaculate. We have covered a lot of motives - sexual, vendetta, thrill kill, personal gain. Maybe it was not just the Dermonds that were the target, but the entire RP community. People may start leaving in droves. . .

Okay, WHAT?

Higgs, who said he had gallbladder surgery about four weeks ago, was "doing some work around the house" earlier in the afternoon, saw his neighbor cutting grass, and suggested they go fishing for crappie.

"As we rode down the water, I noticed something just didn't look right," Higgs said. "Something was out of order. I saw (something) hung up on a tree – and I was 99 percent sure it was a body.

"I thought, 'Holy crap. That doesn't look right.'

Weren't we given the impression the body of Mrs. Dermond was recovered form the middle of the lake?

How exacly is there brush at the middle of this lake?

"He says the body of an elderly woman was "hung up" at the tree line."

Maybe not gators.

This is driving me bonkers ... no matter what theory you believe of what led up to the killings, the fact they left Mr. D in the garage yet took Mrs. D away & dumped her in the lake makes absolutely no sense. No matter if it was a serial killer, a vengeful neighbor/relative/friend/enemy, a random deranged/drugged person, what reason could there be to not leave Mrs. D there also??

The only weapons I can think of that would make a clean one stroke slice and be done quickly would be either a sharp machete or a sword.

IMO

Am I reading correctly she was "hung on a tree" or hung up on the roots and in the water??
Nevermind....
"Sills said because the body had been in the lake for nearly two weeks that some decomposition had begun, but that her head had not been removed."

Ok, still my money is on a gator. They have found gators 13 1/2 feet in length in GA.
