Oh yeah! Been there and done that! Yes, it would be interesting to know their ages when they moved and where. I agree huge stress to be building a house and at 78????? Keep us updated. I like where you're headed. Just keep looking over your shoulder - you never know whose reading here. Here's a picture that makes me think "loooooow profile". Like the newer siggy idea too.

At 78-79 my mother-in-law and father-in-law were still farming the fields on their farm and working two outside jobs. Why I don't know? I guess they just loved working for they didn't need the extra income. That went on until they were 84-85. They didn't build a new home in their late 70s but they did add a two story section on to their home so they would have a total of 6 bedrooms, a big den, and another full bath. They wanted more room because a lot of the grandchildren stay the entire summer with them. Between grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren they have around 35 last count.:scared::floorlaugh:

In my GA county, we are given warnings of threats to public safety. Not even three months ago, there was a big arrest and while dude was being searched for, it was all over the local news to stay inside and keep your doors locked.

I don't know about Putnam County because we're just weekenders but hopefully, they operate like your county. The PD in my town keeps us in the dark way too much to my liking. I wonder sometimes if the newspapers are in cohoots with them as well. Things will happen in town and you know they happened but you will never hear another word. Very frustrating.

Thank Goodness! How scary! Especially if helicopters were in the air too. We live close to some prisons and when there's an escapee on the loose word travels fast and everybody is told to stay indoors and keep your doors locked. I do that anyway and make sure the dog is with me. She sounds ferocious, but she'd only lick you to death - the evil person wouldn't know it though.

Yep, Evan's Mom, it depends on the local Sheriff's public safety awareness policy.. The reason that I posted about the rogue black bear warning was due to the silence & misinfo by the Union County Sheriff/GBI/National Park Service during the Meredith Emerson abduction. About 10 days after her abduction/murder, I drove up to Blood Mtn/Herbert C Reece Trail(AT) where she was abducted. At the trailhead info board was a Large Warning poster; 'Beware of Rogue Black Bear'.. Yet although SK Gary Hilton had been on their radar for years. There were no warnings posted...only silence and misinfo..

I am not sure I agree with him totally.

Did Siggs have a violent criminal background before he decapitated Jessica Ridgeway? Foxfire, what about that guy that killed his victims, dismembered them and then hid them in the top of a tall tree? Iirc he killed their dog too but I cant remember his name now.
To me that would be like saying no one will ever commit violent murder because they never had any violent criminal past history at all before they violently murdered someone and we know many murderers have had no criminal history whatsoever until they committed murder..

Did McDaniels have a violent criminal history before he decapitated Lauren Giddings?

I really think the decapitation in this case was done out of necessity by someone who was trying to protect their own identity and to prevent being tied to the victims.

IMO

Matthew Hoffman. He had an obsession with leaves.

"Feeney said he believes Hoffman likely knew he couldn't stay in his home, forever, with what he'd done. Already a convicted arsonist, maybe the leaves had another purpose.

"Were the leaves an accelerant?" Feeney said.

Would he have burned his own house down and fled? Maybe, the detective said.

There were plenty more discoveries, according to the detectives' notes, reports and photographs in the complete case file, which the Knox County prosecutor's office released Monday in response to a public-records request. The freezer in the kitchen held two unskinned squirrels, red popsicles and little else.

Records show that before the murders, Hoffman's life was a mess. He had no job and was collecting unemployment. His car was being repossessed, and his girlfriend had told police that he'd choked her on Oct. 24. She and her young son moved out then."

:wink:They were just so up in age, I can't imagine who would want to harm them tho, they might've lived to be 100 with their amazing health they seemed to have

I thought I read a link where Shirley was having some difficulties with her memory. Didn't she leave her purse somewhere? I also thought I read they both had some mobility difficulties as well.

But I may have it mixed up with another case.

Yurt! Oh lawdy! A yurt! :floorlaugh:

I was under the impression that the house cost less to build, but was valued at over a million dollars.

Funny! Seriously, the tax assessor site shows they purchased the property in 1994, but the house was built in 1999. This site shows also that the property (LAND) regarding lake front property is more valuable than the homes that sit on said land. The land across the street is not as near valuable.

I thought I had heard it all - thanks for that. This site is better than watching the same old news every night. I love hearing people toss around info and ideas. I don't get to talk about this kind of thing often. It's not about the crime, per se, but more what goes on inside the minds of these individuals. I think it was on Dateline last week that a detective said "Psychopaths are not born; they are made." How do yall lean on that concept? If off topic and not of interest, no worries..

My comment was in regards to it's size, it was indeed a million dollar home, whether built for half, it was large for someon in their 70's

That's my story and I'm sticking to it ! :floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

I THINK IT's BOTH, but I had originally thought it was "born" and "not made"

I believe there are varying degrees of psychos also, some IMO are just seriously SELFISH! So if that's a pscho or socio, WHATEVER

She drove off without paying for gas once and someone was picking her up to play bridge twice a week. Mr. Dermond had had a knee replacement.

WOOPs, yesI knew they'd pruchased in 94 but I did my math wrong, that'd be 20 years ago plus 6 would be 14 years ago building a million dollar sized home

sorry, 74 years young!!

Hey, I don't recall the memory part but I did find where MRS D I THOUGHT was the one that had knee surgery and I had inquired if it could have been during their sons trial in 2001, pssibily the reason they didnt' make it to the trial

He walked alot in the neighborhood, so maybe no mobility problems there, he was seen on golfcourse day before murder or something

Awww shucks! :blushing: Thank you ma'am. You don't have to read the link. He knew his victims because they lived in the same neighborhood. He didn't murder his girlfriend and son. He choked the girlfriend and she hauled booty - smart woman. He was the oddball in the neighborhood. Mothers warned their kids to avoid him. He was known to kill the squirrels in the neighborhood and his house was filled with leaves. He killed the mother, son and a family friend and the little dog because he wouldn't stop barking. He was supposedly robbing the home and was interrupted. He kidnapped the 13 y/o and kept her in the basement. LE was hot on his tail and she was rescued. Praise the Lord!

Sigg - I didn't follow that case as closely because it was pretty creepy from the beginning. I do think he killed the family cat and buried it in the back yard.

DANG, never realized how UNCOMMON the "DERMOND" surname is, the ONLY hit I got so far up and down the chatachoochee was ONE DERMOND

That goes back to genealogy, could be DeArmond or Dearmond etc at one time, wonder if they ever had a name change, had a line in my family that was so uncommon for years I couldn't find anything on them, it had changed in the 1800's with each census, sometimes they change it on purpose, especially way back wehn records were kept but not as strictly

Hmmmm. Could they still have lived on the property at the Chatahoochee and just kept it under the name, fulton? - low profile you know.

Now you're reading my mind. I thought perhaps the Dermond name spelling had been changed at some point in the past. Yes, some people change their names on purpose for the strangest reasons. :truce:
