GA v Hannah Payne - HP allegedly murdering a man involved in a hit-and-run in 2019 *GUILTY*

HP cries for herself only. Shows no remorse for killing Kenneth Herring. moo
I agree. I do not think that she ever even considered the possibility that she would be convicted. I hope that this will change for her at some point in prison and that she will come to the point of realizing this was all on her and that she was wrong from the moment she ignored the 911 operator’s 1st instructions to stop pursuing and that she was wrong to block him in and wrong to get out of her vehicle and wrong to approach his vehicle and wrong to introduce a weapon to the situation and wrong to shoot him and wrong to have held her position all this time that she did nothing wrong. Whether she is eligible for parole in the future or not, she needs to realize and acknowledge her guilt to ever have any peace in her soul.

Imo, it's not about race, it is what she did that day. She killed an innocent defenseless man. You can't take another person's life and then walk, or get a short prison term. It dont work that way. The co-worker's impact stmt bothers me. Passive as crap! I've turned some of them off, and probably need to turn this crap off for now. moo

Nooooooooo, not the "she has a black friend therefore she's not racist" argument from her family. The prosecution deliberately and wisely steered the trial away from the race argument and focused on the merits and facts. IMO though race was maybe-probably-likely-potentially-no-chance a factor here, it wasn't a factor in the conviction. Stirring it up in the support statements seems very tone deaf to the basis of the guilty verdict.

Hmmm Life (with possibility of parole) plus 8 yrs consecutive plus 5 years consecutive - did I get that right? Can someone clarify for me…does that mean that if HP serves 30 years and then gets paroled on the murder charge that she would then serve the 8 years and then the 5? Or could it be the 8+5 and then life? And did I miss it - was there a min amount of time given before parole on the murder charge would be considered?

That would be my guess

HP sentenced to life w/possibility of parole plus 8 years consecutive on false imprisonment and 5 years consecutive for possession of a firearm.
How on earth.... She had the intent to kill pretty clearly. She knew she had a weapon and discharged the weapon in pursuit of another civilian. KEEP IN MIND THIS WOMAN IS A CIVILIAN... So we can take lives because we assume we have good reason? Thank you HP for adding more evidence on the barriers and implications of citizens arrest as she apparently felt she needed to become an officer that day, god willing.

She has devastated the lives of all who loved and cared about her.
And they thought so highly of her. It’s like she was two different people.
I feel so bad for her parents, that’s what’s heartbreaking to me, what she has done to them. Their hearts are broken.
I still cannot comprehend what she was thinking when she did what she did. I will never understand it.
I wasn’t able to finish watching the sentencing, did she speak?

Well, cops do it and get away with it, in the movies, I mean. She thought she was helping the cops. :(

I was not impressed at all with the defense attorney through the whole trial. He just seemed unprepared/ unprofessional/choppy.

Was there a witness for the D today that did not show? Did I catch that correctly?

What a ridiculous statement by the defense counsel.

The witnesses were biased and disrespectful? I didn't watch the whole trial, but from what I did watch there wasn't any of that. What is he talking about?

And he's claiming that Hannah's only mistake was following the instructions of a "state officer" who told her to follow Kenneth and "no good deed goes unpunished." What B.S.

One sort of amusing bit is that from his statement it seems that no one on the jury would speak with him after the trial. I don't blame them.

I had originally figured that Hannah's attorney would have tried to talk Hannah into taking the plea deal. But after listening to his spiel, I wonder if he gave her false hope and told her the jury would likely acquit.

TBF when sentencing was set defense atty did say he had something else this morning and would come after it. Still I’m sure the judge is not too happy about her court being delayed - now for over 30 min - I remember thinking at the time that he should have asked for it to be pushed back an hour or so to give him enough time
He said he wasn't feeling well and was "moving kinda slow" this morning. That's why he was late.
