I know I asked very early on.... Did Betsy have any family. At all? I know her "life WAS Gene", and I just feel they had a very loving relationship.... but did she have any friends or family speak up?

I guess I can understand the isolation...especially since Covid... it has become a pretty easy lifestyle.

But they DID have to get groceries and stuff. I don't think we have heard from any of those expected service providers accept the HOA person that found them.

I do wonder how those basics were getting covered..... Maybe no biggie, since we can see that all happened within only a couple of weeks....but I still thought we would hear something from somebody.... who was expected to make a visit, or something like that.

This article claims that Betsy had grown distant from her relatives in recent months. She usually called her mother every one or two months, but last time she called was October.

However, the Daily Mail is not the most trustworthy of sources.
As if the phone doesn't work two ways...

From a 2023 NY Post article: He was driving alone and walking without a cane.

And here he is on Apr 4, 2024 without a cane. He even walks off the curb without assistance.

Hackman gave an interview to Larry King in 2004 where he revealed that he rarely did interviews because, “I don’t like to talk about myself that much. I don’t know. It’s the same as watching myself on film, it makes me uncomfortable. I love doing the acting. I love that part of it.”

“The French Connection” star added, “When I’m doing it, I’m just totally enraptured. But when I see myself up on the screen, it’s that — I see my grandfather there or something, you know? I see — you know, I think of myself as being 21. You do, too, I know. Yes. But then, when you see yourself, it’s a whole different story.”
-------

Maybe he didn't want people to see him as he aged or talk about himself.

Gene was still driving two years ago, so again this shows he wasn't "kept isolated in their home since Covid".

That's good to hear! Some articles made it sound like he was completely kept at home. I also read his wife kept him on a strict diet, and he would once in awhile 'cheat' and enjoy a treat when he could. I just felt he looked a bit too skinny, so hope he ate well in general and that it was just due to old age.

That is probably BS. When my parents were in their later years I would call and they would simply not pick up. They were losing their hearing. When we would visit their condo, we could not even raise them on the security phone because either the cordless was uncharged or they could not hear us. After my dad passes and my Mom was in a retirement home I got her a special phone for the hearing impaired and maintained a phone line because her cellphone was often uncharged. Still was difficult contacting her. She had a caretaker that would drive a wedge between my Mom and I. I was unable to fire her sadly. Betsy's mom could not recognize her due to dementia. But I am sure Betsy kept sending payment for her Mom's care. The Daily Mail is a dodgy source of news. They seem to get "facts" before they are facts. And nobody cares.

I'm hoping the details of the door get sorted out at today's press release.

Confusion also grew regarding whether the home was fully locked when the bodies were found, though investigators who responded to the scene said a door was found open.
A caretaker who called 911 to report the bodies told the operator the home was locked and he was unable to enter, according to audio of the call obtained by CNN. Later, a deputy responded to the scene and spoke to the 911 caller and another maintenance worker “who found and located the front door of the residence to be opened/ajar.”
It’s unclear what time the workers found the open door or how many doors the 911 caller had tried to open before calling for help. The sheriff later said the two surviving dogs were able to go in and out of the house through an open door.
Investigators will provide update on mysterious deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife amid intense pressure for answers

I generally agree about the Daily Mail's reliability. But in this case, extensive actual quotes were provided and attributions made to a particular person, the longtime housekeeper/caretaker for BA's mother. Usually IMO the more dodgy DM reporting will not quote but will paraphrase "news" and say it's based on things that "sources close to the investigation" or if royal news, "anonymous Palace sources" said. Of course, in this case lots of outlets including American ones have used anonymous sources supposedly close to the investigation to report "news."

None of us can know the truth, but I believe the DM report.
MOO

What we aren't told is whether the housekeeper rang Betsy. If not, why not?
