IMO, the case is closed.

They both died of natural causes, no crime was committed.

It’s now a matter for family or legal reps to wrap up. IMO
I will likely follow the estate/trust admin as much as is covered in the press anyway. The elder law paralegal in me is interested in how this plays out, mainly to learn if I am right in that there will be no formal probate per se, but rather the executor will turn all over to the trustee(s) of the various trusts pursuant to pour over wills.

But I agree there is no longer a case - nothing to see here except a tragic natural death event and what come next with the legal wrangling (if indeed there is any legal wrangling)

This so sad.

No privacy in life and no privacy in death. No wonder he retreated and chose to live a quiet life with Betsy away from all of this drama.

None of this is anyone’s business but his family.

I find the intrusion disgusting.

Omitting Vital Information?

@SteveS Thanks for your detailed comments, especially helpful to non-attys & to members less familiar w navigating the world of wills, trusts, estates, & succession.

My earlier post,* quoting & linking a section of NM probate code included this caveat:
"Speaking generally re law in NM* (& some other states), not to this case specifically."

Not intending to be cantankerous as I am occasionally, LOL, but am a bit puzzled about why ^ post referring to numerous posts "omitting vital pieces of information" relevant to this specific case was made as a response to mine.

I'm not questioning accuracy or disagreeing w ^ content; like many members here, I appreciate & look forward to your comments.
imo

* My earlier post was #1107.

The reason I replied to your post rather than another's was that yours was the most recent in the back and forth, when I wrote.

There was no particular attempt to single out you, or anyone else, which is what I tried to make clear as I prefaced my remarks.

If your question was an inquiry into "What info was missing in my comments," to me the full meaning of your post was a bit confusing, but it SEEMED to me it did not really answer (or answer accurately) the question of the process by which it is determined that said will lands in the informal probate category, or not. (The idea that things just land in the trust automatically is not quite correct.) If I misstate your words here, it's not intended, but it's what seemed to be meant.

For that reason, I felt it better to just state what is happening, and the ramifications, rather than try to parse each post for what was or wasn't said accurately.
