but the frony door was ajar, enough that the workers were able to open and go in...
Some what contradicting information regarding the front door being open. The male who called 911 said he was not able to enter the home and seen the female by looking through the window.

I have never been to Santa Fe but, does it snow there?
In the mountains indeed it snows. If the exhaust vents on roof were blocked, or air intakes near the foundation were blocked, CO could build up.

Here in the UK, I would consider a closet a cupboard? Is that correct?
Which is really confusing me because a) how do you get a kennel in a cupboard unless it was adapted for the dog because people do adapt spaces for their dogs...

Closets in bathrooms are usually linen closets for towels, etc. often with a larger space at the bottom, often used for hampers or laundry baskets, imo.

I pictured them having one like this that they had put a dog crate into on the floor.

Early in the video it is mentioned that the person finding them was doing pest control at the home. This opens a question as to what kind of chemicals used and how applied.

I am going with a Carbon Monoxide theory.
For now I am here as well and hoping that the autopsy confirms.

Such a sweet couple. My heart is with their families.

All along I've pictured the "closet" to be a walk-in wardrobe, often attached to the bathroom.

My sister has a luxury condo in Florida with a bathroom closet that is same size as the large bathroom.

They were wealthy. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a walk in closet.

I wish he had died in his sleep or from a sudden heart attack, sadly in decades to come people will be remembering/talking about his demise way more than his glittering career, one of my fave actors ever
yeah.... so many of us are feeling the same.... but ya know... in time.... i think it will still come back to the real actor story for us all.... He was just such a stellar actor, across so many decades. I really feel that will be the lasting memory.

Very helpful, @Cedars. Thank you for posting.

Notably foul play is not ruled out.

To be fair , when they said no signs of gas , they did say no OBVIOUS signs of gas, so CM cant be ruled out completely.
Just wondering , I read a door was open,? don't know if that is true, but would that be a way for the CM to air out a little?

She was 64. Old enough for sudden death due to heart attack which is what I think unfortunately happened here, leading to the death of Gene and the dog (that seemed to have been locked in a crate) under her care. A 95 year old is like a baby in that they need care and without a caretaker or an emergency alerting service, are unlikely to survive for too long on their own. A fall (which is what seems to have happened to Gene) is enough to incapacitate and eventually kill them if help doesn't arrive in time. JMO.
GH gave up acting a few years ago because his heart was not strong enough to put up with the stress of acting. Recent pictures show he was quite frail. His dying first would not explain BA's death. The weather may have played into this in some way.

But they had been deceased for awhile, though. Most pest services are on a quarterly or annual schedule.

CO is very insidious you can have a bit of a build up and get sick inexplicably and then be well again. They would have to conduct tests of the systems and even then it would just point to a likelihood. If the toxicology is good after weeks of decomp, maybe that would tell the tale. Another possibility is if they have a car parked in a garage that has remote start. Some vehicles were recalled because of this "feature" activating in the garage. A woman died in Naples Florida because her car started up in the garage.

Most in my area have a walk-in closet off the bathroom. Kind of like a dressing suite. Plenty of room for a dog crate in mine. And remember, we are talking about a German shepherd, not a small dog.

One of the articles posted, I think MSN, stated that although there were no obvious signs of gas, carbon monoxide, damage to pipes or anything, it was stated that the door being ajar, potentially for numerous days, could have allowed any gas to disperse.

The autopsies will tell.

Trying again. I've gifted an article from the NYT. It contains a link to the downloadable PDF of the Affidavit for Search Warrant in this sad turn of events. I will never, ever forget Gene Hackman in The Conversation.

That's exactly what I was wondering. Thank you.

There's so much ambiguous teminology bouncing around. I wouldn't take anything from the media literally. At this early stage there will be many assumptions and interpretations.
Dogs aren't usually shut into crates in the home - it's usually their safe private space.
