Is this a possibility:

He gets up to close the door...same time as she, unknown to him, goes to the loo..its a small loo...he hears a noise...and screams at the "intruder" and screams at Reeva to call police.

Reversal: Reeva is sitting on the loo..she hears Oscar screaming about an intruder and shouting to her to call police..she becomes terrified and quickly locks the door, keeping silent, thinking there is really an intruder, totally UNAWARE that Oscar thinks SHE is the intruder..something like that???

Well, When you put it like that. ;)

I am also trying to put my mind set of feeling safe where I live out of my mind and living with in a constant sense of alertness. I think that is a big part of a reason he could have reacted the way he did. I am completely:fence: here.

And after your post, I am now leaning toward possible reasonable explanation.

I want to know, assuming there is a light switch outside the bathroom, whether there was blood on the switch, and whether the light was on or off when the police arrived. Likewise the landing and bedroom lights. Also, whose fingerprints on these switches.

But I would like to see the layout of the house and windows, and how light the house would be at 4.00 before I can explain my theory. I think the light could be vital evidence. For instance, if Reeva ran to the bathroom for refuge she would have left the light off. If she went there to the toilet she would have turned it on.

I am stunned. Wow. I rooted for him in the Olympics. What possesses someone to do this? This is horrible. I am still hoping it was accident but wow.

Is this where the premed murder comes in??
From the side of the prosecutor, yes... he says he shot and then put on his legs.

I imagine that after shooting the bathroom and realising that Reeva may have been in there when she is not in the bed, he rushes to put his legs on (calling his family/friend/Netcare?) and then thats when he claimed he bashed the door in with the cricket bat...small bathroom, I imagine he tosses down the bat when he see's her..and there is our bat full of blood.

I guess there will be ballistic experts that will be able to determine what height Oscar was at when he shot at the door...(legs/no legs)

Not to be gross but I'd like to know what the contents of the commode were. I think that could tell what her purpose in going to the bathroom was.

Also, I read on another board that his car was running but I don't have a link. Anyone read this?

BBM

Except the bloodied bat was found in the bedroom.

That baffles me too. If you are in love with the person beside you, would your first instinct be to reach over to them to be sure they are okay?

i keep in gun in my nightstand. if i were ever to think there was an intruder the first thing i would do would be to check on my loved one in bed with me, probably ask if they heard the noise too. id have the gun read in case anyone came barging out of the room the noise was coming from and i'd probably have my loved one call 911 for them to be on there way. i would not ever shoot unless my life was immediately in danger and i knew who i was shooting and that they were not supposed to be in my home.

i don't buy his damn story. and if it was an accident then he was extremely negligent with his weapon. you don't shoot at unknown people in your bathroom, especially when you have an overnight guest. if you're one of those people that wake up confused like some people are then you don't need to have a gun on your night stand, you need to be able to walk a little bit to get to it to wake up. i know he is different since he has no legs though and he is more vulnerable than the average person if there was an intruder. if this really was an accident then this is extremely bad judgment on his part and some sort of punishment needs to be in place. Reeva lost her life over this. I want to know all the details. Like was the 1st shot really in the bed room and the rest in the bathroom?

Yep. And, why would she lock the bathroom door if she knew he was asleep and if he woke up it would take a minute or so to get his legs on before he could interrupt her in the bathroom?

This is a good point 21merc7

Not sure, does South Africa have laws similar to the US where it's legal (I think) to shoot an intruder that does a home invasion?

The one problem with is story is the going back to the bed to get the gun but not seeing her in the bed. That's the biggest disconnect because unless it was pitch black, I would think you should be able to see her in the bed. Then again, if he was on his stumps, what was his eye level to the bed? Was the gun under his bed and he just reached under it?

Too many questions.

In most states in the US, you can't shoot a burglar just because they're in your house, you have to feel your life was in danger. good question about SA's laws. I'm wondering the same?

So far we have two theories for why Reeva went to the bathroom, that she was using the toilet or trying to protect herself from OP's gun.

What if she went there for a different reason, such as to look at her phone in secret and refused to unlock the door until she'd finished, which is what made him mad?

So he is sleeping with a girlfriend, but when he hears noise from the bathroom, he decides that a burglar is in the bathroom? How does that make any sense? Wouldn't he notice that his girlfriend was not in bed? Why wouldn't he think she could have been using the bathroom?
I don't buy it for a second.

The same here!!
Edit: sorry, meant same law here in SA!

Wouldn't he call out to her to or to whoever was in the bathroom first to find out where his girlfriend was? It seems instinctive that someone would call out "Reeva?" to see if it was her in there, even if he was "scared." He is toast as was stated earlier.

Was her phone or ipad in there? That's a great theory.

I've been thinking if I was in the position where I heard noises in the house and became scared, calling out the name of my loved one would be the first thing I'd do too.

right, what if there was an intruder but he had reeva with him. you still wouldnt shoot!! especially if he has so many guns he should be an expert. if he has been afraid of intruders and SA has a high crime rate he should have at least thought out some scenarios

He wasnt in the bed, he got up to close a door when he heard the noise, he left Reeva in the bed when he got up..she may have got up without his knowledge to use the loo when he was closing the door. So in essence, as far as he was concerned when he heard the noise, Reeva was asleep in bed. Thats possibly why he "shouted" at her to call police- to wake her up?? Im really beginning to believe that reeva didnt shout back at OP because after hearing his screams, she ALSO thought there was an intruder in the home.

In SA and especially JHB/Pretoria, most people live with a very high sense of alertness to their surroundings..most urban homes have electric fencing, high walls and children DO NOT play in the street..its a way of life. Home invasions are an every day occurance and everyone has been effected by it..(via family, friends etc who have been hijacked, robbed or had their homes invaded while they are home)

Thanks. I don't think it's been reported where her phone was...maybe someone could set me straight on that, her ipad was found on the bedroom floor.

Also he had time to stage the scene a little bit, even taking Reeva downstairs...
