"Inside the suitcase, according to the newspaper, were a pair of jeans that were covered in residues (skin and hair that have been "certainly frozen", a shower curtain, a child's t-shirt, a case for pens, and a flannel bedsheet"

How can the McCanns say that this gives them fresh hope that Madeleine is alive?

(skin and hair that have been "certainly frozen",

Wow, this doesn't sound like a pedophile or kidnapper to me. It sounds like a corpse hidden in a freezer and moved for burial later. But I don't get this partial match thing at all.

It's totally weird how if any of these clothes were used in Madeleines disappearance they would just be dumped along the roadside, I don't get that at all, especially if any way connected with her death. Surely they could have been burned somewhere, even put in a bin there would probably be less chance of finding in a landfill site than along a main road? And why are they turning up now? And who found them? I know the main road to faro, very busy, not a huge place for walkers I would imagine, who would stop a car to examine a bag with dirty clothing?

Snip from the above link:

Kate killed Maddie, purposefully, or in a rage, and Gerry came back from tennis and found Maddie dead. He helped cover up the crime. If this is so, Kate would likely suffer from Munchausen’s syndrome by Proxy (if she killed Maddie on purpose – MSP is the label for a female psychopath who harms or kills her children; husbands of MSP women tend to be detached and very oblivious or accepting of their wive’s behaviors) or another serious psychiatric disorder (if she killed Maddie accidentally). They could have removed or hidden Maddie’s body before going to dinner or the body could have been dealt with by Gerry during his checks on the children. If this is true, Maddie is dead.

While I agree with this profiler on most issues, this is not an accurate description of MSP. Individuals with MSP cause harm to their child to seek attention from Physicians. These people, (usually women) are attention seekers, and crave the attention from hospital staff, (and friends and family) when their child is suffering. Women with MSP have been known to go too far, and cause death in their child, but the point of the disease is that they continue to get the attention. A dead child doesn't benefit them...except when...Oh yikes...

I think Kate deliberately killed Madeleine, but I don't know Maddies medical history, that has been kept under lock and key. It would be interesting to see just how many times a month she was taken to her pediatrician.

I am also leaning towards a deliberate killing. I think that accounts for their demeanour. Madeleine was a botheration & their lives are better now without her!

That is an interesting theory about Kate McCann. I, too, would love to know Madeleine's pediatric history and whether her mother took her more than usual to see a doctor for suspicious reasons.

Munchausen’s syndrome by Proxy mothers have been known to slowly poison their children, accidentally "on purpose" injure them, and needlessly expose them to illness in order to seek out medical care for their own attention, comfort and recognition.

Interesting in this case is that Madeleine's disappearance has done the exact same thing. If Kate is an MSP mom (and I only say if), she is fully getting all the attention she could possibly crave. It also explains the need to "keep the case in the headlines" and the constant Maddie sightings.

They never said exactly where the bag was found. Just near the Airport. I don't see where they said on the road side. When I first read it, I had the image of some cross country hikers stumbling onto it in open terrain....(which if that is the case, they need to dig up the entire area). Also, it could have been drug to it's current location by wild animals. No one would be dumb enough to just casually toss it out the window on a major highway. (Unless it's a set up) These people are obviously not the sharpest tacks in the box, but they are a little smarter than that.

They have been hush hush about Maddies medical records, which seem so odd to me...If Kate did have MSP, you think ONE of her friends or family, (who didn't know...just thought Maddie was sick a lot) would be begging for her return because of her "poor health" issues. It still boggles my mind, (Sorry for repeating myself again) that besides Kate & Gerry and a very SMALL handful of people, no one comes forward to discuss Madeleine. No one seems to have known her.

You are right in saying, IF Kate does have MSP, that would explain a lot of need of media attention. Good attention, or bad attention, she seems to like it all.

Has it struck anyone as coincidence that the woman who swears she saw Madeleine, complete with the eye defect, in the mountains of Morocco is also a physician?

Naoual, who describes herself as a qualified doctor, said: "All I want to do is reunite the McCanns with their daughter.

It seems to me as if every one of the sightings, except for the little girl in Belgium, has been by someone in the medical profession. Strange, no?

Poco's really just working for the Cat again, fetching more beer and skittles.

Seriously, I hope we get some definite news this week.

Calikid, right, the other most promising sighting was also from doctors. Strange how they can't seem to get close enough to just look at the child's eye pupils.

Actually I think the last woman claims she did get close enough and that she saw the eye defect.

Absolutely right Calikid, I mentioned that before, it is a huge coincidence all sightings were by doctors & the girl who photographed the last child apparently worked in Amsterdam when the McCanns were there.

I thought the article said it was found in a "layby." Is that UK-speak for rest stop?

I stumbled across this US news website with (I think) a little more detail about the bag.

It describes the bag as a "white carrier bag." The T-shirt was light green. The DNA traces were found on "the cloths."

Also, thought this London Times article might be interesting. A Portugese investigator talking about the McCanns' media campaign as partially responsible for all the bad press they are now getting. Interesting that he claims that the Portugese police have viewed this as a kidnapping.

I just googled it, and you are correct. (I must have missed that tidbit). A layby is a rest area. Makes it more believable somehow.

Last night I read in Br. newspapers that the DNA was limited to the filthy jeans and the fleece jacket. I don't know if some was found in the stains or only in the (uck!) congealed hair & skin.
