Gilgo Beach LISK Serial Killer, Rex Heuermann, charged with 3 murders, July 2023 #6

I see conflicting statements in articles; some have said within an hour of his arrest, LE were in the home to notify his wife and children what was going on and also to take their passports and electronics.

One article said her divorce attorney stated her passport wasn’t taken, but left in the home during the investigation, rendering inaccessible to her.

you're doing better than me, I can't find any reference to them

I wonder if he kicked up communications with SW after Covid. I am assuming prior to covid he was active and once covid shut the world down, he had to take a break. Also, his wife was probably grounded for a couple of years and couldn’t travel. LE said they were watching him since 2022, right when the world was opening up again.
What’s my point. No clue.

We know that the man is very meticulous, calculating, and bright (as described by people who knew him). I can definitely see him doing exactly that.
As for that last question you posed, I have my own theory:

I believe his first kill would probably have been sometime after he and his first wife’s divorce, but before the birth of his daughter with his second wife in 1997. Heuermann would have been around that age when serial killers murder their first victim, and there were plenty of “stressors” in his life at that time that have also been known to “push” other known serial killers forward: divorce/breakdown of a marriage, the wedding for his second marriage, and the birth of Heuermann’s first biological child/also having to help raise or take care of his stepson who has special needs (and who was a small child at that time too). Maybe he has some sort of paraphelia that could have caused him to seek out a sex worker and maybe during the “exchange” (for lack of a better word), either the sex worker was accidentally killed, or something about him made the sex worker laugh, which in turn embarrassed and angered him enough to kill that sex worker. Either way, the murder would have cemented itself into him, just as it does with other serial killers and their first victims.
And back then in the 90’s-early 2000’s, no one batted an eye if a sex worker went missing or was murdered (except the SW’s family). Even if the murder of a SW did manage to make the news, usually the big headline was “HOOKER KILLED DURING SEX IN MOTEL”. There was no compassion for them. There was nothing that humanized them in the way we see a headline for murders that did not involve SW’s: “ASPIRING DOCTOR MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD-INTERVIEW WITH GRIEVING FIANCÉ TONIGHT AT 5pm!”. I fully believe things like this send a message to our society and especially to those with evil intent in their hearts and that message, at its very basic is this: killing is bad, but killing certain kinds of people (ie sex workers) is less bad. I think people who go after SWs do so because it’s easier to get away with murdering a SW than it would be to murder the neighbor girl down the block.

One possibility is that he evolved from trying to sink some body parts (but some washed up), then tried mutilating identifying parts and scattering remains (but this was becoming obsolete with DNA, and some parts were found more easily than others) to dumping whole where body parts were not found (until they were in a small span of time) to ???? Abstaining from murder? or a new dump location?

That fits in with the stress timeline.

I used to doubt that the butcher/LISK were the same person. Now I'm beginning to change my mind.

I used to be fairly convinced that Shannan's murder was closely related to
GB4. Now, while I'm certain she was murdered, I'm not certain it is as closely related as I had once thought.

Sorry if this has been asked in the previous threads (was REALLY hard to keep up and I missed a load of posts )
What's everyone's thoughts on why they arrested him when they did?
I kinda think after he bought more minutes for his burner phone (per Bail Application) , they think he may have had another victim in mind :( ?

Eta - as well as pizza box dna and hair matching to wife results came back

I suspect that they got some crucial information that moved the case, and then all pieces of the puzzle started finding their places. The arrest itself? As soon as they knew the case was strong enough that they could deny bail. Also, he had tons of guns at home and maybe, felt more secure and less aware in the office, so he was arrested in NYC.

When and how did he know / decide that a SW would become a victim?

The when - no idea
The how did he know, have been wondering if he had a "script" of some sort, specific things he would ask/say during those phone calls, then a specific answer/reply would determine who he chose?

Genuinely feeling sick that I'm thinking about this.

The four victims now identified with RH were killed between 2007-2010.

Here we sit 13 years later. I don't believe he suddenly stopped killing SW in 2010. I think he just started disposing of them in different ways. IMO, this is the tip of the iceberg.

I shutter to think how many more victims will be found and identified.

Prayers up for all of the families.

In the phone call to the producers, RH's emphasis on the word heard (''I had heard''), was similar to the way he said question (''I have a question for you'') in his voicemail to the woman from a networking group.

Wondering if RH's penchant for buggy, creepy phone calls began in high school or even elementary school, bet some girls and teachers received some weird calls, possibly even for years without knowing or suspecting the source.
speculation, imo. fwiw.

“Hey, this is Rex from the … group,” a man can be heard saying in a February voicemail recording that Vidal shared on TikTok on Sunday.

“I actually heard you are no longer part of the group. I still wanted to talk to you,” Heuermann said, according to Vidal.

“I had a question for you: Did also want to touch base? So if you get an opportunity, you can always find me at the office or feel free to use my cell,” he said. “Hope you’re doing good. Hope to talk to you soon.Thanks.”
I'd be willing to bet that if he didn't have this particular urge back when he was younger he didn't have enough confidence (If that's the right word here) to say anything. Like peeping, it usually builds from more minor things like breaking in and stealing panties which I suppose might fall into 'victimless crimes' Because no one is being hurt or assaulted in any way, only their peace of mind. Maybe he made the calls but it was silence on his end, creepy hang ups, heavy breathing strange things like that as opposed to him saying anything to anyone, especially at that younger age.

But I agree with you here. If this is him, he probably grew to it, making strange calls, practicing in various ways, growing more confident then eventually speaking on those calls.

(I'm catching up on the thread, I've been reading articles and I'll be catching up on all the videos next and soon the podcasts thanks to all the wonderful links here. But I'm entirely new to the site after watching the LISK documentary and wanting more info and to know more about the connections after having wondered so much about these killings)

A warm welcome to you. There's lots and lots and lots of information about these cases, I've not even discovered half of it yet, but I'll persist because I'm so angry their young lives were ripped from them on a whim.

Welcome to WS!
what a whopper of a case to start on!

You've certainly given this much thought and make some good points. Like you, I've wondered if perhaps the first kill was more accidental. But once he had cleaned up, disposed of the body and wasn't immediately discovered and arrested, he began enjoying remembering the event.

I don't know. He seems to have interacted with numerous SWs who were not killed. I wonder if it's something about a particular one that causes him to fantasize. I read about Neal Falls and the WVa woman. He drove 7 hours from the time of the first call until the encounter. Across those miles, he must have passed hundreds of other SWs just as eager for his money and better targets. Why this one?

When he arrived, he was ready to get straight to the killing. Just walked into her kitchen and "live or die?" I think the time to fantasize drove him to the kill frenzy - which may have led to his death as the timing was off and the victim not amply subdued. Just thinking as I type here.

So, transfer this to RH -- The 16 calls in three days with MBB.

Is that normal?

Interacting with Melissa Barthelemy for a week July 3-10 -- is that normally how the business is done? He had more time to fantasize.

The last two were more hurried - just a day between first contact and the meeting. But, I doubt that with Megan Waterman. That is the first mention of a brand new burner phone activated just that day. Who knows how many calls or how long on another phone?

Since he seems to have been seeing SWs regularly. Why kill only an occasional one? Some one has mentioned the time of year being a trigger . . . From their photos they don't really look much alike.

I just don't know.

Is the "getting to know you time" normal?
I'm curious about the 'getting to know' time line as well.

I do think you're onto something though with the fantasies I mean we all do it, even in minor ways. When I know I have a check coming and a cheat day I start thinking about what I'm going to order, then once I get it I can't wait to rip into whatever I've ordered. Think about when you think about vacations and how you 'just can't wait' to do everything you want to do and how sometimes you get so overwhelmed you don't know what to do first. It wouldn't surprise me if killers find themselves in similar situations, especially since I would think, they can't vent like the rest of us to just anyone, or anyone at all. So it would build and build and build until yeah, maybe as soon as they get the fly in the web so to speak they have almost no control and just pounce so to speak. They spend so much time controlling their urges that once they're so close there is no control anymore

Well Thank you! I will say while I'm new to the website and tracking a case like this in my spare time. I'm not new to true crime. Once upon a time in my life I wanted to double major in criminology and psychology. Maybe be a forensic psychologist or profiler like my girl Candace DeLong, but my life went another way, not to mention with my Complex PTSD and anxiety issues I couldn't have been a police officer which is a per-requisite from my understanding. But I still love true crime and studying the whys and hows. And this says nothing but I did figure out the movie US in the opening credits. Surprised myself with that one.

Not a sex worker or otherwise affiliated with that world, but I did spend an afternoon on the utopiaonline site.

The site mentioned above caters to men leaving reviews of providers, ads placed by providers, and other threads with topics of interest to the audience.

It seems common practice to use burners for one’s “hobby” (johns call themselves “hobbyists” or “mongers” - SW are “service providers”.). There may be multiple calls placed while a) leaving a message for the provider, call backs, setting up a meet, “I’m here” etc.

(Imo, extrapolation, etc)

Thank you for your research.
My searches have one less incriminating topic in the docket.

Maybe the dates of the articles are off and one is updated information?

Haha!

It was fascinating, in a queasy sort of way. Many of the posters are apparently married, and spend hundreds (or more) per month on their ‘hobby’. These seems to be a large element of risk-taking, which is part of the thrill. (According to my very amateur and likely statistically invalid analysis).

What I found most interesting during my brief peek was how many men seemed to say the woman’s personality as the most important part of their rating. An attractive woman who was otherwise not a good conversationalist, or warm, would generally be rated below someone less attractive but more engaging. (This is for women working out of hotels, btw, not so much women on the street.). Many men are looking for a provider who provides a “FGE” - full girlfriend experience.

.

Apologies if this is already shared. Creepy!

LISK podcast producers get a call from... possibly Rex H., claiming the aquarium owner is LISK.

MOO

Edited to add: I found this video because I recalled Amanda, who got calls from LISK, said that his "s" pronounciation stood out to her. I wanted to listen to him. And yeah, RH has a weird "s."

MOO
IMO some who really "worked with the police dept" would not be making this call
