Three possibilities come to mind:

1. He wants to do the right thing.
2. He has bigger fish to fry.
3. He doesn't expect to be free again and therefore has no vested interest in fighting for a share of assets.

It sounds like he's not even entering into/negotiating a settlement agreement.

speculation/opinion

Whatever the reason, I am glad that the divorce and allocation of assets can move forward now so that Asa and her children can move forward with their lives with some financial stability, depending of course on debts that will need to be paid.

I was kind of hinting at whether his underlying reason exhibits potential consciousness of guilt. He knows he will never be free.

Complete speculation.

"Several of the firearms were apparently illegally possessed," Assistant Suffolk County District Attorney Lawrence Opisso wrote in the motion filed Tuesday before state Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro.

"For example, upon conversations with members of the Suffolk County Crime Lab and the Suffolk County Police Department, who recovered the items, but have not conducted a forensic examination, at least 26 unregistered handguns, 15 unregistered assault weapons and 10 high-capacity magazines appear to have been possessed in the defendant's home in violation of [state firearms laws]."

True. Or perhaps IF he goes free, the less fuss and payment out to the lawyers means he and AE can proceed with their lives with the most they are able to salvage from this mess.

John Ray is a little more pessimistic about how much information they can get about the LISK / Rex H. He has a point, most of the sex workers from that time are probably retired or deceased. It's still a good idea, JMO. Police should always try to keep track of violent acts being committed against sex workers. Those are criminals they need to pay attention to.
There are some not deceased and that are retired (or not) that still live a life of crime due to their circumstances. Mind you, I am not pigeon-holing anyone, and I am not saying ALL, but there are still some in the system whereas in and out of jail is like a revolving door.

41 weapons to analyze for ballistics matches- that’s going to take some time.

Am i the only one that feels that JR is just trying to find ways to involve himself in RHs case?
I don't feel that way at all.

He's been one of the driving forces for transparency and information.

He is keeping LE on task.

He's just helping his wife protect their assets so the victims children can't recover anything for the loss of their parents at the hands of the killer. Pretty standard for murderers to do this for their wives.

Agree. JMO, he may be sharing information with LE from other SW that will help them either tie more murders to Rex H or to someone else.

* These two paragraphs are in direct opposition. Defense sounds like he has no common sense… I call it a win for Prosecution. What happens with illegally registered guns confiscated from normal people. Is the gun returned once it is registered?

Several "of the firearms seized were apparently illegally purchased," Assistant District Attorney Lawrence Opisso wrote in court papers filed this week. The collection of guns include "at least 26 unregistered handguns, 15 unregistered assault weapons and 10 high-capacity magazines" in violation of state law, he added.

The 59-year-old Heuermann claims to have a "continued financial interest" in those guns and has "requested that the firearms be returned to him," in a request the district attorney opposes, according to Opisso.

Great argument against his client - a significant number of the weapons cache were illegally acquired. In that case, he has no financial interest in them.

IKR? At least one of those weapons had a destroyed serial number.

What if he had other contraband?

Is anyone buying this or is this a ploy by The Happy Face Killer to have attention for a hot minute?
Happy Face Killer reveals Gilgo Beach suspect 'sent letter' in chilling video
Wasn't it the Happy Face Killer's daughter who helped the Heuermann family set up the GoFundMe account and worked with them during the very early days after RH was arrested. I can see a thank you note or some sort of acknowledgement from RH to the Happy Face Killer or perhaps the first contact went the other way as HFK's daughter did go into Massapequa Park. HFK said he told RH what he tells all the others when they're arrested. So, maybe as a seasoned member of the SK gang, he writes others arrested and gives them the "benefit" of his experience.

Oh, and yes, HFK is still craving that attention. You saw that same love of the limelight with a dressed up Dennis Rader, basking in the opportunity to be an expert; with Joel Rafkin being so casual, quite charming and expansive. They must love it when a suspected SK is arrested and they are sought out as experts on the subject.
