I think I do too.
Sometimes I seem to see people rolling their eyes at me when I tell them the latest scientific discovery or some new type of bat etc.
I'm just always surprised at their lack of interest in the wonders of life music, art or anything really.
How dull a world to live in.

Epiphany

1767721981942.webp

Epiphany commemorates the arrival of Three Kings/Wise Men from the East

Casper, Melchior and Balthazar

who paid tribute to the newborn Jesus by offering gifts:
gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Gold - symbolizes power and royalty,

Frankincense - divinity and priesthood,

Myrrh (a resin used for embalming) - humanity, suffering and death,
but also the future Resurrection.

🌟

Epiphany is the day of the end of Christmas season,
and both Catholic Church and Public Holiday (no work) in Poland.

⭐

Processions of Three Kings appear on the streets of Polish cites, towns and villages.

"Wise men of the world, monarchs,
where are you hurrying to?
Tell us, Three Kings,
do you wish to see the Child?
He is in a manger, has no throne
and holds no scepter."

1767722617319.webp

"Nothing deters the monarchs,
they rush to Bethlehem,
the star announces the Savior to them,
they rejoice in hope."

love that upper pik!
Thanks! I'm considering buying that one! Not only would I need to reach up, and lower on a ladder to change bulbs, but being in a row like that'll make it SO much easier than reaching for the ones the other side from where the ladder would be. My island is a double depth. No way would I be able to reach the bulbs from the opposite side, so love that it's designed in a straight line!

I have a tendency to not trust things that fold.
I hear ya. I broke my foot when my ladder leg buckled. The red line on the left is to show where that portion should have been in line with the upper leg. Red arrow pointing to the bend.

I put up my Nativity scene for the first time this Christmas. I had purchased the "stable" by itself, from a thrift store a couple of years ago. My plan was to get the Holy Family and other figures separately. I did get the figures on e-Bay, just this Fall. The only problem was one of the Wise Men was missing! Then, I had to try to find a suitable replacement so that his size would be on the scale with the other figures. I found the perfect Wise Man on e-Bay. But there was no indication what his size was. So, I thought . . . well, how "off" could his size be? When he arrived, with a beautiful turban on his head (loved that turban -- that's why I chose him!) -- he towered over the others! But, no matter -- nothing is perfect!

I AM SO SORRY. I thought I did the Jan 6th date. YIKES.
GIVE US OUR DAY, OUR DAILY THREAD, TUESDAY, JANUARY 6TH, 2026.
BE SURE AND CHECK OUT THE UVALDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COP TRIAL.

DISCUSS ON WEBSLEUTHS RIGHT HERE

This day in history. Big stuff happened. Like a big WWII battle. Read below.

1945 – The Battle of the Bulge Ends

The Battle of the Bulge officially concludes as Allied forces push back Germany’s last major offensive in WWII. It was the largest and bloodiest battle fought by U.S. troops during the war.

🎙️ 1941 – FDR Defines American Ideals

President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivers his famous Four Freedoms speech to Congress, outlining freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear — ideals that would shape U.S. policy for decades.

🏛️ 2021 – A Day That Changed American History

A mob breaches the U.S. Capitol during the certification of the presidential election, an event that becomes one of the most significant political crises in modern American history. Congressional proceedings resume later that night.

✝️ Ancient History – Epiphany

January 6 marks Epiphany in many Christian traditions, commemorating the visit of the Three Wise Men to Jesus — hence its nickname, Three Kings Day.

📡 1838 – The Telegraph Is Born

Inventor Samuel Morse publicly demonstrates the electric telegraph for the first time, laying the groundwork for instant long-distance communication. (Basically, the great-great-great-grandparent of texting.)

🎂 Bonus Fun Fact

January 6 is sometimes called “Old Christmas” in parts of Appalachia, where traditions stuck with the original Julian calendar date.

Again my apologies. I really thought I had done this day and I didn't. I have Jan 7th ready to go. I just have to hit "post" at midnight

GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY THREAD, WEDNESDAY JANUARY 7TH 2026
THIS DAY IN HISTORY

1789 – America Votes for the First Time

The first U.S. presidential election begins, eventually leading to George Washington becoming the nation’s first president. No campaigning, no rallies, no social media… just vibes and powdered wigs.

🏔️ 1953 – Everest Is Officially Conquered

Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay are officially confirmed as the first humans to reach the summit of Mount Everest (the climb happened in May 1953, but the news reaches London on Jan 7). The tallest flex in history.

🏀 1927 – Basketball Gets Fancy

The Harlem Globetrotters play their first official game, launching a sports-entertainment phenomenon that’s still spinning basketballs and embarrassing opponents nearly a century later.

📖 1824 – The Braille Alphabet Is Unveiled

Louis Braille presents his system for reading and writing for the blind, revolutionizing accessibility and literacy worldwide.

✈️ 1935 – Amelia Earhart Breaks Another Barrier

Amelia Earhart becomes the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to California, a dangerous and nearly unheard-of flight at the time.

We're having a heatwave here and last night was the worst.
Yes I do have airconditioning but can't use it. it stuffs my nose up and pretty soon I"m sick so I use fans.

Last night I kept waking up all night, sweltering.
Even though some might say my fan is not noisy, I am extra sensitive to any noise so I can't sleep with any noise at all.
So leaving the fan on while I sleep is out of the question.

Today I thought I might buy a cooling sheet.
There is debate as to whether they work or not.

I like to have some covering on top of me when I sleep even if it's just holding a corner of a sheet.
Ok it might be my token blankee 😊

I've picked out a cooling sheet from a local store. It's purple with matching cooling pillow cases.
There are none available in the actual store GRR

You have to order them to be delivered and in one delivery it took three weeks to get here.
Others only took a week.

So my cooling sheet might arrive three weeks from now and not now when I need it most.

Anyway I'm going to go ahead and give it a try.

My little gadget that pops the pills out of foil arrived yesterday.
The Post Office took it straight to my Post Office box which I am happy about as it's safer there.

GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY THREAD FRIDAY, JANUARY 9TH, 2026.
THIS DAY IN WEIRD HISTORY.

This Day in WEIRD History — January 9

🧜 1493 – Christopher Columbus claims to see mermaids. They are, unfortunately, manatees. History’s first documented case of “expectations vs. reality.”

🧀 1838 – Samuel Morse demonstrates the telegraph… which people immediately fear will cause mass confusion, moral decay, and possibly the end of society. (Spoiler: it didn’t. Mostly.)

💃 1918 – The first recorded jazz concert in England horrifies polite society. Critics describe the music as “dangerous” and “chaotic.” Parents everywhere nod in agreement.

🍷 1923 – During Prohibition, doctors prescribe alcohol as medicine. Nothing suspicious here. Absolutely no one exploited this system.

🐒 1961 – A chimpanzee named Ham is launched into space and safely returned before any human American astronaut. Ham survives and is rewarded with… an apple and half an orange. Hero.

📦 1977 – The U.S. Postal Service issues warnings reminding people they may not ship live children through the mail. (Yes, this reminder was needed.)

🛁 1992 – A man in England attempts to fake his own death by leaving clothes at the seaside—only to be found later watching his own “search” from a nearby pub.

👻 Bonus Weirdness – January has more reported ghost sightings, hoaxes, and fake disappearances than almost any other month. Cabin fever + long nights = questionable decisions.
