WOW I am LOVING this thread.
THANK YOU EVERYONE.
I don’t know WHY I have a feeling that this will be THE most popular thread on Websleuths @Tricia. Brilliant idea!

Former Catholic here too. Wore a uniform to grammar school. I didn’t know what to wear when I went to public high school (class of ‘63 Alameda, CA).

I see I’m one of the oldest here on the thread so far. Heading to 80 in a couple of months…first batch of baby-boomers, along with Dolly Parton. 😄 I’m recovering from my second hip replacement a week ago. Still pretty ouchy, so I appreciate the distraction of Websleuths. Looking forward to hearing from more WSers.

Thanks @Tricia!

P.S. I think you were adorable in your plaid skirt!

I also was raised Catholic (just about) because of my Irish grandad. I think it had more to do with getting me into a good school though o_O Nowadays, I’m not a religious person at all.

Looking at your pictures of clothes gone by - funnily enough I had a dream last night of a memory of something that happened when I was small.

I was at my grandparents house for a family gathering, and I was wearing a tartan kilt with a big pin in the front, the fashion at that time (late 70s). I decided it would be fun to slide down their newly carpeted stairs on my tummy. Unfortunately the pin caught the carpet and pulled a thread out all the way from top to bottom! Ruined their carpet 😭 I was beside myself. My grandparents comforted me and told me it was all ok. They never even told my parents. The next time I went, the carpet was perfect again.

To this day, I have no idea how they fixed it or what it cost. They were truly the best grandparents. I’m making Christmas wreaths to put on their graves and will have to remind them of this story when I go with my mum to lay them (just have to make sure my mum is out of earshot 😂)

I'm Canadian and our Thanksgiving was in October. Which I'm glad of. It seems like so stressful to have it so close to Christmas like in the U.S.
Omg it is!!

It seems
I'm the only present Catholic here 😁
among former ones hehe
Brought up as Catholic and Catholic till death.

But no surprise
as I come from a Catholic country
(where churches are still full and Catholic traditions strong)
which even gave world the Pope - John Paul II (Karol Wojtyła),
now declared a Saint by Church.
As he once said
"I come from a far away country" - Poland :)

There are many Catholic schools here,
and their level of education is outstanding!
But I attended State schools, free of charge (and no uniforms).

I became a Lutheran when my late husband and I married in 1991, but at heart, I’m still a Catholic.

My great-grandparents on my dad’s side came here from Poland. And I have a dear friend who came over with her son decades ago. She still considers Polish to be her first language. I tried to learn it myself last year but could never get the hang of it!

Class of 93. I was going to be making a pumpkin trifle and fruit plate right now, but I am bowled over with period cramps and my normal chronic pain. Will wait until the pain subsides more before I do those.
Me too! Born in 75, class of 93.
I hope you're feeling better today! 🤗

I'm really traumatized by that picture of me in the first post.. Not in a big way, but in a "I'M SO EMBARRASSED" way.
What did people think when they saw me wandering around? What was my mum thinking when she dressed me? No wonder I have zero sense of style. LOL
Countdown to the Daily Thread. It's coming December 1st
I think you look cute. :) Love the suspenders! I guess those are there because you were too young to have hips at 6 years old and you needed them to hold your skirt up? LOL

"Kindergarten chic." LOL That made me literally laugh out loud.
I hope other "twins" will post.
Come on now. I was brave enough to do. You can too.
Have you all ever seen this?
Awkward Family Photos. HILARIOUS
The Daily Thread coming December 1st
OMG @ this family photos that Tricia had us go have a look-see.

When I got to this part "As you can see, my husband looks like he was quite excited about the tour." I checked out his face and thought her smile was bigger than his. Then I realized it wasn't his face she was talking about... 🤣

Looks like I didn't have a bowl cut at 5 years old but it sure looks like I had a cowlick goin' on though! (I don't have a cowlick so not sure why I was sprouting something on my left side. One of my devil horns, perhaps, and the other one isn't visible because it blends in with my ponytail?)

Here's me in Kindergarten.

Fantastic thread idea, @Tricia.
Raised Catholic too, but Im over that. lol
I actually love your cool outfit, Tricia. Am a big fan of tartan, it never goes out of style.

@MrsWatson, I loved my hula hoop, but it didnt love me back. I sucked at it.
I was SO good at hula-hooping! I could slow it down and speed it up, and let it lower to my knees and then 'hula-hoop' it back up to my waist. All with a swing of my hips. :D

In fact. I loved hula-hooping so much I was looking for one a few years back to see if I still had it goin' on. LOL

Any non-Catholic schooled kids here raise your hands. I feel like I'm the only one not raised catholic.

My parents were very thrifty having lived through the 2nd world war. But we kids got a big surprise when they died. They had a lot more money than anyone would've ever thought. We still marvel at the secret stash they kept for us 7 kids. How did they do it? We'll never know. We all forgave them for the hand me downs then!
You saying they were thrifty doesn't surprise me at all that they had a huge stash when they passed. Being thrifty, and investing, is the way to riches.

Take Warren Buffett for example (who is an idol of mine)...

Warren Buffett is worth an estimated $160 billion, yet he still drives a 2014 Cadillac XTS—one he didn't even pick out himself. His daughter, Susie Buffett, handled the purchase, upgrading his 2006 Cadillac DTS, which had a mere 19,000 miles on it (because the car it was replacing was "embarrassing").

His frugality extends far beyond his garage. He still lives in the same Omaha home he bought in 1958 for $31,500, and his idea of a lavish breakfast is whatever McDonald's combo matches the market that morning.

Lifetime Southern Baptist here. No, we aren’t those weird ones like the fundamentalists. We don’t have extreme politics. We are just normal dressing, looking, acting people who happen to go to church.
