Loving this thread! Great idea Tricia!

Not raised a Catholic here, but may as well been…..we attended Sunday School & church, every Sunday without fail, until we left home at 18yrs!
Not a sniff of alcohol in the home. As kids, not even allowed to kick a ball round on the Sabbath!

‘ Kindergarten Chic’ ruled here Across the Pond also!

My Grandma was a tailoress & made my dresses…all with matching headband, which I had to wear throughout Primary School. Mortified!

I’ll try to find photos, but they are of a similar ‘ ilk’ to the ones shared already on the thread.

Very happy to join you here. I feel I’m among friends x

Oh man, the nuns! I had one in first grade who hated me. She used to smack my hand with a ruler every chance she got. I finally told my parents about it and we had a meeting at the convent with the nun and the Mother Superior. That nun never laid a hand on me again.

And it was even worse when my grandfather went to school. He was left-handed and the nuns thought he was some kind of demon, so they used the ruler on him too.

I was raised a Catholic, also. I went through 12 years of Catholic school. I am lapsed religiously but still consider myself a Catholic culturally. There are some things that were great about the Catholic schools. Catholics have a great tradition when it comes to education, unlike many fundamentalist religions. I was taught the theory of evolution starting in the 8th grade, and this was in 1965! The girls' Catholic high schools in my part of the country had rigorous curricula academically: We were required to take at least three years of math, four years of science, four years of a foreign language, if not two languages. And again, this was in the late 1960s. I don't remember any home ec classes They didn't tell us we were all expected to get married and raise kids. Or to become a nun. So I salute the Catholic church for that great tradition.

I think this thread calls for a party!

I'm going to whip up a cake. It'll be ready in about.... 13... days.

Sorry if it's burned to a crisp or very under-baked. Next up, a batch of cookie.

My favourite childhood game
was the one of "rubber band,"
which involved jumping over a rubber band stretched from one person to the other;
the third jumped.

First,
the band was attached to the ankles,
then higher and higher,
until the jumping person couldn't manage to leap.

Record-holders could jump as high as... their necks!

Me!!! 😁

I used a special technique to win 🤣

Free time was spent mainly in the neighbourhood with home keys tied around our necks.
Just playing with friends was enough to keep smiles on our faces 😀

Overheard some people talking about growing up in the 70s. One said tovthe other, "what? You had toys? All we had was Jimmy, the stick."

Another great game was called "Souvenirs"

For this,
we - girls - needed a piece of glass, preferably a bottle bottom, and a few flowers.

We dug a hole in the ground,
arranged the flowers in a beautiful pattern,
covered them with glass, and buried them in soil.

They were our secrets :)
Boys always tried to find them hehe

Our imagination was limitless!!!
And our hands were cut and dirty.
But we survived :D

And my imagination! Alligators, a game I made up (I'm an only child and had only myself to play with for the most part). There were alligators on the floor so I jumped from furniture to furniture to get around without my feet touching the floor.

Also...

Thank you for checking in @Bethan.
This is the thread ANNOUNCING the Daily Thread is coming. I LOVE THIS. The announcement thread is active. Come this Monday, we will lock this thread and start the Daily Thread for the month of December.
My goal is to have thousands of members check in on the Daily Thread every day, then head off to all the places of true crime discussions on Websleuths. Yes, I said thousands. I will admit I have a bit of trouble with reality at times. I kind of sort of believe I will never really get old. LOL
Thanks everyone for checking in.

I have never seen that before, but then when I was growing up, we were busy inventing the wheel. 🤣

It's never too late to be kid again.

However, be forewarned. Nostalgia doesn't come cheap.

And of course Hop Scotch. :)

What about skipping?
I could even skip backwards with arms crossed. Ha! 😁
Skipping ropes games had many variations.

Now it is called a good "cardio exercise"
Phew!

We also got involved in climbing any low fences and walking on raised curbs.
Now we have Good Balance! :)

Those were the days my friends!
