Cake all around!! Happy Birthdays to you both, BDE and PN. I have a virtual home made vegan and gluten free cake for you PN and a torte from Nino's special made for you BDE. Not right on the days but I do celebrate my birth month, so you should as well. :)

Thank you! I'm sure it's delicious :) We stopped at Nino's after my eye appointment this morning and got some necessities and a couple of splurges. I rarely cook Prime Rib more than once or twice a year, but this week's special price was too good to pass up a 5# roast. We'll have it with smashed potatoes and veggie for one meal, then I'll make Beef Stroganoff or Mushroom Barley Soup with leftovers. They were also featuring a bone-in frozen turkey breast that will be enough for a couple of meals. Tonight I'm making a casserole with wild rice, veggies, and chicken thighs.

When you’ve been craving a Cesar salad and praying the veggie pick up includes Romaine...... Yum!

I now have a mountain of washed romaine drying. Cut up the squash already, so it’s ready to go. Now on to the cauliflower. No idea if my young’en will eat that passion fruit. No way I’ll touch it.

Have you ever grilled romaine? I made a recipe similar to this...it was delicious! Note..I grilled my romaine on the stove on my cast iron griddle. You could use store bought dressing and croutons as well to make this quicker. I never thought I would care for warm grilled lettuce but it was actually very good!

That sounds like something my sister eats. Her husband makes it and pours bacon drippings on top. I had never seen anyone eat that before. Wilted lettuce doesn't sound appealing to me at all. Altho, I do like spinach a lot so maybe I'd eat it.

Mr Pirate took some convincing to get him to try it. He said, lettuce should be cool and crispy, lol. He tried it and loved it. So I would say maybe give it a try. For us the croutons and the dressing made the dish. And I know some put bacon on caesar salad. And we did serve it with the lemons.

Tales from Walmart.

I have my next food order ready to go, all except the milk.

On Jan. 20th I bought 2 X 4L bags of Fine Filtered 2% milk for just under $10 in my WM order.

Last week and this week, the same amount of the same milk is nearly $20!!!

I have called them, told them that it must be an error but it has not been corrected.

I finally went to a local convenience store, bought a different brand of the same Fine Filtered 2% for a little over $6.

Called again tonight and the woman in India, insists it is priced at $5.19.

When I asked which website she was on, she told me to refresh my page its been fixed.

Ahhh, no it has not been fixed. Then, she told me to go ahead and order it and then call back a third time to get the difference back when overcharged!!

I have explained, as nicely as one can, that I won't be doing that I'd rather shop at a place who has the correct prices on their website.

Told her that I have enjoyed two months with Walmart, thought they were my winter answer but obviously I need to switch.

Let's hope the milk is priced correctly or I will have to move along.

There are not enough hours left in my life to be calling Walmart every couple of weeks, nor am I continually going out onto the frozen tundra to get convenience store milk.

Rant over. Will it be Walmart forever?? Dunno....

We have a new Aldi's in town. So I briefly walked thru. Amazingly enough, I found a LiveGFree brand brownie mix that my youngest can eat. No nuts, dairy, wheat, eggs, etc in it. You have to add 2 eggs but we will use her egg substitute. We will use her nondairy/vegan butter. She is very excited because that is one dessert she really misses.

I hope the brownies are good. I tried the gluten free cornbread and it was super sweet and gave me quite a bit of indigestion... most of the Aldi food has been quite agreeable so only had a few duds... been happy as most items are low sugar and no corn syrup...
