The following changes nothing regarding this trial, but I had a wild thought ....

Maybe she really did not realize she was pregnant. She had erratic periods (likely due to eating disorder) and some sort of bleeding or spotting during the pregnancy if I remember correctly. It was late in the pregnancy when she found out. And the baby was not Brandon’s, her current boyfriend. Not only would she have to face her parents, Brandon would also learn and may leave her. So she was putting off confronting anyone, including herself. Blocked it out as best she could.

All just a hypothetical, of course, and I have no way to know if any is likely.

The one piece of evidence I know of that suggests she did know before her April 27 dr visit: is her Internet search shortly before it,something like 'what happens at a gyno visit when you are pregnant'. I also think on the 1st police interview she alluded to suspecting but not knowing for sure until the dr visit?

To the burning of her baby, I read all of the 2nd interrogation & I'm paraphrasing but the investigator asked something along the lines of "and where did you burn the baby?" and she said "IN THE BAG".

This sticks out to me because if she indeed had put the baby into a bag, and then proceeded to try to "cremate it a little" from the bottom corner/the baby's toe, but decided that it "wasn't right" once the bag burned halfway - the baby may have actually had some char or other sort of fire artifact once she removed it from the bag & tossed it into the hole.

So I'm not throwing out the whole cremation thing either. I just don't see myself or my 18 year old being coerced to say anything of that sort, no matter how flustered.

Thanks for this post as I also read all 98 pages of 2nd interrogation, and I observed the following about "fire" and "cremation."

Detectives were attempting to go over the BSR's timeline from birth to burial, when they started interjecting how scientific evidence indicated to them that she did not previously tell them everything that happened before burying the infant.

When detectives first bring up the concept of burning the baby in a "fire," BSR appears shocked, and immediately willing to swear on everything, that there was NO FIRE! She's adamant she would remember a fire.

Later - when detectives bring up "cremation," it was almost like BSR did not associate "fire" with cremation, and she's the one that brings up using a lighter (not a fire) to ignite a bag. She also tells her dad that she cremated her baby-- just a little.

I really need to watch video of this part of the interrogation to view BSR's body language when she makes statements about cremation as it's very perplexing to me. I really wish BSR would have been polygraphed about anything related to "burning." MOO

As this case dates back to July 2017 - many of the original MSN news articles/videos no longer available. I'm trying to determine a couple of things:
  1. At conclusion of July 20, 2017 interview #2 at police station, it appeared that BSR was going to jail that evening, and would be seeing a judge in Lebanon on July 21, 2017. Not finding anything about whether she was just detained, arrested, or released to her parents without ever seeing the jail. Do you have any info for her on this date? (Only see Warren County Jail booking for August 4, 2017 at 3:31 pm).
  2. BSR was indicted, arrested, charged, on Friday, Aug 4, 2017 on multiple counts, and arraigned on Monday, Aug 7, 2017 in Warren County Court. Bail was set at $50,000, and Judge ruled BSR would be monitored electronically if she made bail. Is she also still on house arrest since 2017 or has that been lifted?
Thanks Niner!

Hey Seattle1! I can answer - I think - only your 2nd question - I believe she is still on house arrest.

The other one - well.... I or you will have to go back a ways on these threads to before her trial as I didn't keep that info after her trial started. I would look, but RL is really being a pain in the a$$ this week - leaving for my holiday - and need to get stuff done! :) So... Maybe look for my stuff around August when defense was denied the drs comments not coming in. Should be in those notes.

She was told by LE they could prove she burned her baby. Didn't matter how many times she told them no, they told her they had proof she had done so. The simplest explanation for what she told them after that, being led every step of the way, was she was trying to create a scenario they would accept.

They didn't lead her at all

Thanks, I thought it was delayed as law and crime still doesn't have anything up. I'm watching on court TV!

Closing statements, the prosecution just said she had the baby in the bedroom.

Wow according to the Ohio Law she should be found Guilty!

Defense opens with burning of the baby is false ... and ask why did they come in here and tell us the baby was set on fire, so if you have Reasonable Doubt on the fire, you should have Reasonable Doubt on everything else they said.

RICHARDSON: The younger Rittgers now on defense closing arguments: "They knew the story of burning was false and yet they came in here throughout this trial and said 'Skylar said it.'" @WCPO

Replying to my own post.
Skylar did absolutely nothing to insure a healthy child.

Rittgers: They hid the fire marshal's report and didn't put lead detective on the stand. @wlwt

Judge Oda interrupts and tells jurors to ignore the statement about fire report bc it's not evidence. #skylarrichardson

Whoa, judge just interrupted the defense attorney and said do not listen to what the defense is saying about the fire report being not presented. He said that is not evidence. Slam

Rittgers: Your verdict here today will last forever.

It is extremely rare that a verdict is overturned.

State: objection

Judge: Sustained.

Whoa! Second Interruption by judge because the defense says it will be overturned if you vote a certain way. Judge says to disregard
