Womens march organized this walk out, not the students. Maybe the students should have been told about linda.

This is a woman who said that Ayaan Hirsi Ali – who was a victim of FGM, escaped brutal conditions, and now must travel with bodyguards 24/7 – deserves to have her vagina taken away because Sarsour doesn’t agree with her worldview.

I too was a high school student, and i will tell you that all the students looked forward to a fire drill or bomb scare drill to get out of class.

A bomb scare and a fire drill are the same as a walk to protest being killed?

As a new generation is thrust into the debate over guns, school walkouts highlight division among students

http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-school-walkout-divisions-20180317-story.html

As she addressed the crowd during the walkout at her Idaho high school, Kylee Denny faced heckles and name-calling from a group of students carrying American flags, she said. The counterprotesters included many familiar faces, including her boyfriend's stepbrother.

To avoid making a difficult situation worse, Kylee's boyfriend stayed in class during the rally at Hillcrest High School in Idaho Falls, which was part of Wednesday's national school walkout.

That’s a ridiculous thing to say. This school walk out isn't going to prevent future school shootings. It was nothing more than a political stunt pushing a gun control agenda using children who don't understand the issues.

Kids do not understand kids getting shot at school or the mall or the theatre or church or walking down the street or sitting at home or sitting in a car or anywhere, really

I was not aware that “society as a whole” had rights.

That’s what makes America great.
Let t us start with the right to vote, the life , liberty and the pursuit of happiness, unreasonable search, and.........

Or are those for only special people?

Charlize Theron Says Arming Teachers With Guns Is “So Outrageous”

http://deadline.com/2018/03/charliz...global-education-and-skills-forum-1202339943/

On Saturday, Theron spoke at the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai and addressed the topic of guns, which has been making headlines since the multitude of school shootings that have happened since 2018, with the latest in Parkland.

Since the strong reaction and continuing backlash against the NRA and the laws surrounding gun control, Donald Trump brought up the idea of arming teachers while speaking at CPAC in February. This is an idea that many have been against, including Theron.

Yes I’m all for less to no gov control.

I think a field trip to Somalia would be excellent. They basically have no govt so you can see it in action.

This angers me so much. People make out that children protesting about the right to not be killed at their school are unpatriotic. Like being shot and killed in Math class makes you a patriot?

Vermont gun owners react to possible gun reform

http://www.mychamplainvalley.com/news/vermont-gun-owners-react-to-possible-gun-reform/1055022953

Governor Phil Scott also sent a memo to legislators after many school threats were made across the state. He wrote in support of improving school safety with gun reform.

Firearms Policy Analyst for the Vermont Traditions Coalition Bill Moore disagrees.

"S.55 is a complete laundry list of gun control similar to what they have in states like Connecticut and Massachusetts,” he said.

Moore was at the Lamoille Valley Gun Show collecting signatures on a letter addressed to Scott and legislators. The letter was written to “say no to S.55”.

Before lunch time on Saturday there was already a stack of signed letters.

“People in this room are 99.9% ready to sign that letter,” Moore said.

Del Mar gun show crowd, protesters illustrate national division over gun rights

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/public-safety/sd-me-gun-show-20180317-story.html

“What’s different this time is the students are telling the adults, ‘You have not done enough,’” she said. “Sometimes as adults we get so wrapped up in the law, and what is politically correct, and these kids are instead saying, ‘Where is the morality?’”

Throughout the two-hour long demonstration the protesters were greeted with frequent honks of support from passing motorists. In all about 80 protesters gathered, a number less than Sharp hoped for and which she attributed in part to the rainy weather.

There isn’t one. It’s a diversion, a conspiracy theory; a way to minimize and demean these kids, families, communities and first responders.

It’s a misguided attempt to invalidate the issue — which is the need for gun reform.

It’s not worth arguing, imo, because it’s irrelevant.

Moo

I linked to the Wall Street Journal which doesn't publish conspiracy theories. Some just choose not to see it.

What I found most unfortunate about the walkouts here, were how they were planned and executed by the administration without a doubt, (They planned the lessons for the day, they planned where the students would "walk" to and what would be done once there.), and then students were "invited" to take part... invited with a heavy dose of manipulation in the form of extreme praise for choosing to opt in, and no real option to avoid the planned classes on the subject...

Once they knew they had an angle to play, "Our kids deserve our support", Our kids need to discuss school safety" ect... They exploited that loophole for all it was worth.

The students were "led" but the staff, too cowardly to admit that, just kept right on saying "we are respecting our students right to "their voice" by "supporting this protest".

And they were careful to hide the agenda. Never mentioned gun control once, ever, in the emails to parents, just couched it in terms like "school safety" and Civil Disobedience" (which is odd imo, because a school santioned walkout is hardly an act of Civil Disobedience. It's more let's play protest for 17 mnts!)...

It was disingenuous of them to suggest that those students had any voice at all since the only "voices" they had any respect for, were those that parroted their own.

*My girl is exquisitely selfish btw. IE:
She can think for herself and she'll never be a sheeple. She's an extremely loving and caring human being, a truly marvelous individual. And we like that about her! *

Agreed, Elley. Exactly. Making false analogies and spreading false information further victimizes all of them, too. It’s unconscionable, imo.

False ananlogies? Spreading false information?

Nothing i said was false= a lie.

Quick question about that school walkout, does anyone know if it was primarily public school students that participated?

Did any private or parochial school students participate? If so what percentage?

Bumping because it looks like you missed it.
You all have been posting some amazing thoughts and information.

Most of you.

Let's lay down some rules that should keep everything on track.

1-NO DISCUSSION OF TRUMP OTHER THAN HOW HE IS DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE GUN CONTROL DEBATE
This means no mention of how much he is hated or loved, anything to do with his tweeting unless it is gun control related.

2-WE CAN ALL AGREE TRUMP HAD NOTES DURING THE MEETING. End of story. Yes, I know some of the notes were telling or maybe not. IT IS NOT IMPORTANT.
Let's bring the discussion back to guns.

3-PLEASE STOP WITH THE ACCUSATION THAT THESE KIDS ARE BASICALLY PUPPETS. They are kids. They will get help from adults and adults would be involved. They will get a lot of help from adults who agree with them. Don't know how you feel but I am so proud of these young people it brings tears to my eyes.

4-PLEASE LET PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT OPINIONS EXPRESS THEM WITHOUT ATTACKING. I want to hear from the people who believe differently than I do. If someone posts an unpopular opinion, of course, you can challenge them but do it in a way where I don't have to remove your post and time you out. Please. Let every opinion be heard and discussed in a mature manner. As long as the opinions expressed are within our Terms of Service.

OK. Be nice to each other and let the discussion begin.

Thank you,
Tricia

I don't know for sure but I would guess not many. The parochial schools my kids attended in the past did not participate.

Oh wow.

I had no idea, since I don't keep up with contemporary Hollywood:

from Wikipedia

On 21 June 1991, Theron's father, an alcoholic threatened both teenaged Charlize and her mother while drunk, physically attacking her mother. Theron's mother then shot and killed him. The shooting was legally adjudged to have been self-defence, and her mother faced no charges.

Most help prayer services instead, and added extra time afterward for discussion.

How some Catholic schools approached the National School Walkout over guns

Many Catholic schools used the day as a chance to call their students to prayer, either in addition to or instead of a walkout.

Schools in the Archdiocese of New Orleans were asked to hold 17 minutes of prayer in solidarity with shooting victims and the walkouts.

Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit held memorial services for the victims of the Parkland shooting, including posters with pictures and brief biographies of the victims.

The Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey said on Twitter that several of the schools participated in the national walk out, and held prayer services afterward.

Thank you, I Googled the 3 high schools in my home town in CT, of the 3 only one had a number of students walk out, it was one of the 2 public high schools in town. The third high school was a parochial school and the one I attended.
