DH got up at 6:00 this morning, showered, dressed, had breakfast and left the house for the office. I was awake but still in bed when I heard him come back into the house. I asked if he had forgotten something, and he said, "No. Someone in the office tested positive for COVID and that no one can return to the office until they've had a negative rapid test". The texts came last night but DH didn't have his phone turned on. DH will work from home today and call his physician to see about getting a rapid test today or tomorrow. I was afraid that this might happen with the recent surge in cases in Oakland County, particularly on the west side where the office is and most employees live. If others begin testing positive for the virus, DH will finish his last few weeks of work at home.

Uh oh. Maybe you should test too? Stay in and safe for a few days just in case! Hoping you both stay well!

Got a call yesterday afternoon that some flooring contractors we had in the house last week (masked) are feeling unwell and getting tested this morning. Husband (49 yo) started feeling unwell Saturday evening and had a fever of 101 F yesterday. I (47) woke up with headache and sore throat this morning. I am high risk and kind of scared. I canceled an appointment, a piano lesson, and a housekeeper for today. Husband calling doctor when they open. Four teenagers, including two high risk, are feeling ok.

I don't have to leave the house at all this week. DH's doctor's office does not have a recommendation for rapid testing, and so far, DH hasn't found any place local that does them. He will go to his PCP's office for a script for the regular test that he had in July when he returned to work. That was the testing site where the trailer/tent was stolen last week, but the testing site is up and running again. Test results were available within 24 hours. DH will work from home this week. With just four weeks left before he retires, DH is not going to put himself in harm's way.

Update: Only three people in the office today. Everyone else working from home. Remote system overloaded: I've heard DH cussing up a storm :D

Oh no. That doesn’t sound good. I hope it’s just a cold or sinus infection type thing. Lots of fluids and rest for sure. Do you have anyone who can drop off meals and necessary items?

One of our lab tech’s girlfriend is positive, she’s been hospitalized since Friday with 104+ temp and breathing issues. They got temp under control, still having problems breathing. She’s in her early 20’s and healthy otherwise. He’s waiting on his test to find out if he’s positive. He had a test months ago that was positive but he said he never had any symptoms. I made him eventually go to the expensive clinic that ran the nasal swab test and he tested negative. So now we don’t know if he was negative and had false positives or if he’ll be able to have it again months later or at this point if he’s even positive. We were around him all last week. So far no one has had symptoms here, so we wait again. Our lab has fume hoods running all the time and we have our own workspaces so we wait and we play it safe in the meantime.

I'm sorry to hear this. Let us know what the doctor had to say. I hope you all will get through this and be fine.

BBM above: Sounds like a good idea!

DH's physician's office forwarded a COVID test prescription to their preferred testing site. DH called to ask if he could be tested this afternoon. They weren't busy and suggested that he could be tested immediately. He was gone less than 30 minutes. Results in 24-48 hours. While he was on his way to be tested, DH learned via text messages which employee had tested positive. DH never interacted with this individual without wearing a mask and social distancing, but it is very likely that this person was infected prior to the office mask mandate that went into effect last Monday (November 2). Prior to that day, almost everyone in the office would have interacted with the employee, with DH being the only person always wearing a mask and pretty much staying in his office, insisting on social distancing.

I told DH this morning that if one person in the office was infected, it was highly likely that others would test positive, as well. Now that he knows who is infected, DH agrees with me that there will be more positive tests - hopefully not his! - and that he will probably not return to work in person.

Yes, I think so. Thanks for asking.

Please keep us posted. Hoping this is only cold/sinus issues and you both rebound super quickly
I really need to get a new designated outlet for a second heater installed in my basement and keep putting it off, dreading anyone in my house. However I had a 1/2 bath installed this summer and feel I need to keep it from freezing this winter.
Decisions, decisions, decisions What used to be a time and $ issue has turned into a "do I take a chance with my life" issue in 2020.

Yes. This is a long story, but basically we had arranged to have all the work done while we were out of town. They called us Monday of that week and said there were complications and they couldn't do it that week. By then we were out a huge chunk of money (50% down payment) and just scheduled it ASAP, which was a couple of weeks after we got back. Everyone was masked whenever near each other, but I suspect they removed their masks when no one was close.

How are both of you feeling? Hopefully you will get test results back soon.

I am feeling 100% fine. Husband scheduled a COVID test for this afternoon. His fever has been gone for over 24 hours, but he has a lot of muscle aches, fatigue, and sinus stuff. Kids are also fine.

ETA: two of the kids and I got a hotel room for three nights while the work was being done as we have bad migraines and allergies and couldn't tolerate being around the work, so it would make sense that if anyone gets sick from the contractors it would be DH.

Wonder if the delay (complications) was due to some of the crew being out sick?

I have two items that need repair but I’m thinking now about rescheduling it for next year.

DH is still awaiting test results, but all but one other employee returned to the office today after negative rapid tests. DH and another colleague preferred to have a standard test because they are more accurate. Even if his test is negative, DH is not planning to go to the office this week and will wait to see if anyone else develops symptoms next week before deciding to return. In the meantime, we are both fine and have no reason to suspect that DH was inadvertently exposed to an employee who tested positive. My thoughts and prayers will any of you who have family members who are ill.

No, it was concerns about my floor. They had to bring in different people when they saw it.

Hope hubs is doing okay and his test comes back negative!

Thanks. We don't know yet, but we found out today that the contractors are positive, so I assume he will be.

ETA: he's feeling fine, thank God. This is day five since symptoms started, so if he's going to get worse it will probably happen in the next day or two.
