BBM: I know in some cases I have followed, they ask for people involved NOT to search, so there can be no question of impropriety if they turn up anything. By the same token, there are other things you can do to help with searches (man the water/food stations, thank people for their help, etc). This guy is in a bad situation for the plain and simple fact that if he had nothing to do with her disappearance, he also did not make sure that a person who came out in the dark to help him made it home safely. The fact that he "lost sight of her headlights" and sped up to get home makes him look like a jerk, IMO, so anything he does or says is not going to help. People who care about other people don't do things like that. He screwed up, and that part cannot be fixed.
