Yes, I think it was the most convenient and efficient plan. Early on, I was wondering if he had access to some type of boat.

Building on Kapua's theory that the bodies were thrown into the ocean, Steven would have done that only to get them as far away from his home as possible. Dismembering her would make it more likely that fish would feed on the remains and a whole body wouldn't be found.
I'm not ready to post what I think because I don't know what to think.
But I have given some thought to Charli's phone. Charli's phone is what guided Steven's alibi. If the Scott family hadn't received the ping on her last known location, they wouldn't have searched Honomanu right away. I know there's been some discussion about her body being in Haiku or "upcountry" but that's too close to home for him.
The simplest reason is usually the truthful reason. His or her phone may have gone off causing him to rush and get sloppy. I think he had completely forgotten about her phone being a beacon. Otherwise he could've tossed it out the window along the way. The road to Hana is dark and lonely at night. You can't see into the cars of oncoming traffic.
Why Honomanu? Because it's dense and dark and there's water nearby. Why was he allegedly seen in Hana? Because it's far away from his Haiku home.

Are you thinking SC purposely let himself be seen in Hana to deflect scrutiny from his Haiku home? That's quite risky, too, seeing as his alibi placed him close to where her clothing, jawbone was found...but it definitely deflects attention from Haiku.
Like you, I don't have one theory. I go round and round.
Wasn't Kim shown a spot near/at Honomanu where LE thought it likely Charli and Joshua had died? (Due to amount of blood?)

I don't think he meant to be seen anywhere! I don't think he meant for her phone to ring/ping at Honomanu. I think that was his "oh *****" moment when the family went to him with that information. And Nala was found on Monday so she could've been dropped off closer to dawn. I don't believe that Nala's paws were clean. A neighbor's dog got loose and ended up in our driveway (one house away) and the dog's paws were muddy from going down the street. I think most of the facts published by MSM are incorrect because it doesn't make sense.
I think he thought about her phone and maybe mistake was he thought she didn't get reception there so it wouldn't be tracked. You maybe right about the oh **** moment when the family told him they had a ping from their app. But I don't think he forgot about her phone all togehter.
But if his plan was all along to say she drove him some place to get his truck so he could say they were in seperate vehicles when she went missing then he would have to tell a location at some point where his truck was supposed to be stuck any way.
So maybe that wasn't his plan maybe his plan was to say she came to his house and then she left alone and drove home? Or his plan was to say he never saw her that night and her family told him something that made him admit he was with her?

The condition of her torn skirt says it all. Stabs on the left; she was in the driver's seat, he opened the door. Stabs on the right; she was still a driver but he was in the car with her. No way NO WAY she willingly let him in the car.
About the grain of truth in the lies. Thinking about the 4runner and his story she drove him to get his truck that got stuck. After the murder he could parked the 4runner any place and left keys in it walk away leave it in working condition. He had a reason to torch the 4runner. Destroy evidence or just angry taunting or who know.
If his plan was torch the 4runner instead that why not torch it deep in da jungle some place only couple people would ever see it again not know whose is was. Why obvious place of Peahi.
If he torched it hidden in the jungle he would need first hide a vehicle there for him to drive back. Or need someone to pick him up. If he torched Charli’s 4runner and then his truck didn’t start and was parked right next to her burned 4runner oh that’s not good plan. So it had to be Pe’ahi where he could walk home.

If there was no way Charli would willingly let SC in her car, then she must have been very afraid of him, so chances are she would not willingly go to his house that night. Leads to to think he ambushed her, possibly at/near her home.
Many have speculated that Nala would protect/attack anyone trying to harm Charli. Maybe that is true, but Nala knew SC. Perhaps he projected a pack leader vibe to Nala in which case she may not attack. Moo.

I don't have a dog. I'm actually terrified of them. Would a dog react negatively to it's owner being hurt by another "owner"?

She probably said something that pissed him off, sending his ill-intent into overdrive. She had a mouth on her. Good! Hurray for Charli for speaking her mind and putting that punkass in his place! He'll never get rid of those words that she spoke or how little it made him feel.
I would like to give her benefit of the doubt that she intended to go home and rest. Only the family knows her frame of mind that evening.

If Nala was in front seat and Charli was in driver seat being attacked by someone outside driver door Nala would not just sit there. Any dog respond to that violence and their owner screaming. Would anyone with just a knife take chance of stabbing someone with pitbull trapped in front seat right next to them or even back seat. And would they not worry the scream and barking be heard.

I don't know, RDS. SC wasn't just anyone to Nala, apparently. He was, as NL says, a co-owner, so to speak, and may have had dominance over Nala. Also, we don't know where Nala was at the time Charli was stabbed.
I believe at some point in the early stages of this case, somewhere I read that Kimberlyn, possibly Brooke, said something along the lines of ...she wished the other dog had been with Charli that night. I took that to mean the other dog was more likely to have come to Charli's defense. Moo

I'm going to throw out some short replies, not at all to nitpick this wonderful work, but to test details that might need refining.
I wonder how much SC had heard about the Bo and Brittney case. It had been solved only a few weeks before and so all over the news. He killed his pregnant girlfriend and threw her over the cliff into the ocean, at night. Her body was found at first light by fishermen. Proof that the ocean isn't trustworthy. In this area, I have heard it said the ocean would push a body back. I think dismemberment and possible weighting would have been minimal precautions.
Also the ocean is fierce along there in February. High surf got in the way of searching. Do we know the conditions that night? I really doubt he could safely get out there in a small boat or inflatable, particularly at night. It would be a challenge even for an expert boater. He supposedly doesn't even fish and hasn't ever.
Honomanu is I think the first publicly accessible turn off with ocean access coming from Haiku, so that's also a reason to pick it.
