Rivera objected so much that Apo was whining to Cardoza to approach the bench aka tattletale and Cardoza was like NOPE.
Apo -- but Your Honor, it's not faaair ... he's yelling objections, and I'm not allowed to approach, waaah .... "

Would it make any sense at all if the initial drive was the two of them going south on what appears to be faster and easier highway (37) and then looped back up north to the marketplace and THEN headed back towards his home on that part of Hana Hwy? One big circular loop instead of back and forth on that one section of Hana that's been the focus?

Pua, I agree! I too hope that Apo doesn't trap Phaedra. And of course the mom would want to ask the ex boyfriend, he's the father of her grandson. I don't think anyone can fault the mom for looking at the obvious.

Looking at the case objectively, I wonder if other leads were pursued to the extent that SC was? What I worry about is was the MPD thorough? They missed that hair in the pants pocket after all.

If SC walks, I think he'd walk us straight to her body. No way he'd be able to stay away from the Hana area.

I think if he continues with the whiny tone he's going to lose those jurors real quick!

Through Kipahulu, Kaupo, and Ulupalakua? Not if the road is still as bad as it was the last time I made that loop! That's the long way back to Haiku.

I doubt other leads were pursued anywhere near the extent SC was. He gave them good reason for suspicion and scrutiny with his odd alibi and the fact he was the last person known to see her. A concern of mine is the local public's (jury) perception of the MPD; do they have reason to distrust them? I think Apo is sneaky....dropping hints/threats of accusatory things for which he has no documentation. An example is how he told the woman from PP 'what if I told you SC has time cards, etc. to prove he was at work the day you contend SC accompanied Charli to her appointment'. It plants the seed in the mind of the jurors, even though he retracted his question. Dirty.

Agree 100%, Mama.

I think that if Steven had not admitted he was last to see her, that would be different, and maybe they should have looked at more people. The "last person" needs a solid alibi, always, as does the person in a problematic relationship, so double whammy, as you point out.

I think a good number of people in Hawai'i have an active distrust of the police force, yes, because of the good ol boy network that exists here. If not of the intent, then they criticize the competence.

Live feed back ... I had to look up origin of "spidey senses" -- was surprised it does come from Spiderman. I'm not a superhero fan and did not know that. Apo is being lame here. Lots of people know the phrase, I certainly do -- without any idea where it originated. And really, a giant so what whether Loo is a Spiderman fan. What is Apo trying to insinuate, that Loo was flying on some delusion that he has superpowers?

The only part of the live stream I was able to hear before lunch, was Apo leading Loo into a trap re DNA contamination on the crime scene. I felt it was obvious that he was laying the ground for attacking the evidence integrity because PS handled it and took it to the station. I think he's going to insinuate that the Scott family wanted to go after SC and would do whatever to point towards him.

Re what Brooke said about how they knew if something was wrong with Charli it would involve SC, I don't think she should say that. It will play into Apo's defense strategy, which is that Kim and other family members insisted the police go speak to Steven and that their prejudice pushed the police into only one line of investigation, not really considering anyone else.

From what I see of public comments, the general public agrees that looking at the ex is looking in the right direction, so I hope that the jury will not put much weight on the perfectly natural concerns and good instincts of Charli's family. I do hope though that Apo doesn't get to trap them; I'm sure he will try.

I think she should say exactly what she said on the Disappeared video as you posted yesterday. Kim: "Phaedra and I were going over list of names of who she could possibly have gone to see ... and there's only that one person she would go do something for in the middle of the night and not tell anyone. Her ex-boyfriend, Steven Capobianco." That's her truth and she should speak it. IMHO.

In terms of MPD not focusing their attention on anyone else, if I understand typical police procedure, they attempt to clear people by examining their alibis. They were not able to clear SC. He had a motive, and by his own admission, was the last person to see Charli alive. Early on, he made a lot of statements to police that did not make sense to them. He called Charli to help him with his "stuck truck" and to talk. She stayed in her car the whole time, never once got out. The dog was with her when she was driving back to Haiku. He left his car, with its big tires, custom stereo, and broken rear window, on lonely, unpatrolled Hana Hwy near Keanae overnight Saturday and all day Sunday and it was untouched when he returned. It took him 5 or 10 minutes to fix his truck - loose battery cables. He wasn't thrilled to be having a child, he was warming up to having a child, if Charli was having his baby, he wanted to be in it's life.

If I were investigating the case and I had all of the information above, I don't think I'd be wasting my time looking for a serial killer.

Yeah that is definitely the long way home.

Gotcha. On a map the first part south from Keokea looks like a good paved highway that could have been much faster at least until maybe Kaupo area. Faster than the completely twists and turns of the part of Hana Hwy that's been the focus. And he's mentioned that he drives pretty fast. I'm just looking at google maps and wondered if that was a possibility. Thanks!

Yep, it looks like a potential shortcut on a map, but some of it is badly rutted dirt road, one lane over a cliff in parts. I don't think it is part of SC's "comfort zone" that we discussed. Kaupo is its own separate isolated community, and not one where he is in the club, so to speak.
It might be a tossup which route to take if you were all the way to Ohe'o Gulch before heading home, but from Nahiku or Keanae it is much longer.

Sorry, the quote above is from Kim, not Brooke, but their truth is the same.

Great summary, Kapua. Of course Brooke needs to speak her truth, and I'm sure she will. What you quote is a specific reason to seek him out, Charli's history of not mentioning to friends and family any plans to see Steven. That is different from just knowing that anything bad is going to be Steven's doing, which could be a prejudice.

I'm sure you all caught Steven's recorded statements that his family made him stay home because they feared for his safety, and about the hostility he was feeling from the family and searchers, and accusations.

ed. noted that it was Kim, agree.

If I ever visit, my family is going to wonder how the heck I know these roads. lol lol

I expect Apo will ask Loo for any statements the family made to him about SC during the initial investigation stages. Rivera did not focus on that, but I assume Apo can cross him on it anyway?
And then he will ask the family for their recollections of the same conversations, and he'll jump all over any differences.

Would those statements have been recorded? (Fingers crossed)

At the police station, most likely, on the phone, not necessarily, probably not, in the field, no.
