Ninth Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Belvin Perry was unanimously re-elected Wednesday to another two-year term as chief judge by the other circuit and county judges in Orange and Osceola.

WooHoo! Thanks ThinkTank for posting this and bringing it to our attention!

I LOVE HHJP! Congratulations to him. :skip::skip::skip:

I think that HHJP is a brilliant, very hard working, gentleman.
He is all business and is extraordinarily careful when dealing with potential appellate issues. I think that he is more than capable of handling anything thrown his way. I trust him and I admire him.

I suspect that HHJP has a grand sense of humor. His wit is hidden when he is sittin' on the bench, though. I think that his inate personality is quiet and introspective. He is politely firm and a consummate professional in every way. I'll betcha he is a very spiritual person.

Remember the judge in another high profile case involving a double murder in California? I won't mention a name but I will say that he annoyed me to no end and I'm being nice saying that. I think that is it a wonderful "rule" on this board that we are not permitted to opine in a more umm...enthusiastic manner;).

Okies back on topic:
Put it this way...would any member here feel delighted if you got the chance to work with/for HHJP?

I would, for sure.

Perry oversees the court system of one of the state's busiest jurisdictions, which now has 65 judges. He is also actively involved with statewide funding for the court system and heads up the Florida Innocence Commission, a panel looking into wrongful criminal convictions.

Congrats to you Judge Belvin Perry, Jr....the best to you, sir...

ICA when convicted, will not be one trial for this panel looking into "wrongful convictions"...JMHO

Judge Perry continues to impress with his way of making Mr. Baez answer his own arguments with 'what is the law on this?'.

As a former teacher, this is one of the best aspects of the Socratic Method. Logical questions lead the student (sometimes eventually) to the obvious answers. If the student is at all reflective, they will also look back at the line of questioning and see how the flaws in their earlier/faulty thinking were exposed. And will not make the same mistakes again.

JB is not at all reflective. His hubris prevents him from acting as a student and learning from his previous errors. CJBP is still doing all he can to point him in the right direction.

CJBP has been exceptionally wise and generous in his treatment of JB and the whole defense team. He knows what he's doing. As for the title of the thread, "What is your opinion of Judge Perry now?"--same as it ever was, with some added respect for maintaining a direct line toward opening statements in May 2011.

My opinion of him is a bit lower than it was. There is no excuse for letting Baez slide on these latest deadlines. Evidently deadlines mean deadlines...sometimes. I'm so sick of seeing him squeak by and be rewarded for his incomprehensible, mind-bendingly awful behavior.

I have loved HHJP from the start, not only has he shown patience he has managed to chivvy the defense along and keep everything on track despite JB's best efforts to THWART the court. The only give-a-way to His Honor's reaction to JB's insanity is his chair-a-rockin'.

This is how I feel about HHJP

HHBP rockin' and rollin' right along on the justice trail :great:- all the while doing his own research. This man is prepared. He knows the law. And he is more than fair. No one can complain about that.

When Jose Baez whimpered and whined about HH Stan Strickland that was a mistake - HUGE mistake for ICA! :loser:

But on the other hand look at it this way (or not). lol The judge knows JB has nothing. This extra time would have been spent with SA doing depositions of the experts which probably will not happen. HHBJ knows JB is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Probably one of the worst cases he has seen to defend. There is no defense because everything points directly back to KC. There is no rabbit in his hat. Not even a handkerchief. I believe the judge knows it will not change the outcome but is willing to give JB one more chance but warned this is it. Time's up.

The conference does not matter because everything is due before. Waste of JB's time unless he gets those reports by the deadline. If these experts have not been able to get reports to JB by now highly unlikely we will see anything this week. It may be more of the experts saying "we told him we would look at the evidence and give him an opinion but we never intended to testify regarding our findings." I find it amazing that Dr. Spitz did not reply, even with his recovery, because he would have had made a record at the time of the examination of the skull. Could be the good doctor does not like overzealous attorneys putting words into his mouth. jmo

Did anyone catch HH Belvin Perry's other controversial decision in the news this week. It is a free speech case involving a protest group handing out flyers at the courthouse entrance in order to encourage juries to act on "jury nulification".

Good catch Faefrost - impressive decision for HHJP - particularly when going up against people screaming "civil rights".

Oh man........I can SO SEE Baez picking up on this and running with it, and not in a good way either.

But, I can also Perry reasoning that this is staying just one step ahead of Baez, also.

Baez needs to pick up his expert list and run with it to get reports - no point him making statement about this and continuing to make a disorganized mess of his defense!

I agree 100% ~ But, I can also see the writing on the wall, so to speak; that if Baez can use this to his advantage, he'll beat that drum with the biggest stick he can find.

Which, IMO, also leaves me to think that while signing his name to this, that Judge Perry had a vision of Baez front and center in his thoughts ~

Quoted from the same article...

Roger Roots, an attorney and member of FIJA's advisory board, said the nonprofit is actively seeking legal representation in Florida to see whether a challenge to Perry's order can or should be mounted.

Wonder if we will recognize the name of the attorny who volunteers to represent FIJA in Florida. :)

Uh Oh - ummm - the word "Volunteer" might be a big deterrent. :loser:

Win or lose, this case will make legal history. That kind of free publicity is worth the 'no fee'...to some.

I almost feel that this case was not randomly assigned to Judge Perry, but that it was intentional by the powers that be. He is very intelligent and cautious. This is a high profile case that went out of control as a result of
an immature attorney in over his head and a host of characters hoping to gain something from the death a two year old angel. The state of Florida surely did not want this case to be the embarrassment that the OJ trial was for CA. Hence, a great, intelligent judge was assigned to the case. At least that's my hunch.
