Hope Sykes arrested 1/20/2010

I am thinking the only Let's Make a Deal that would work is who did what to HaLeigh where and location of remains w/evidentiary proof. Otherwise...they doing the max.

I agree with you that Misty will do the max on the drug charges. I think Misty will keep her mouth shut about Haleigh. There is no way Misty wants to go to prison as a baby killer.

IMO, Hope understood her plea. If we had the transcript of the court minutes, we would see that the Judge would have made sure she understood her plea.

What Hope did know, IMO, was that cousin Ronald had plead nolo contendre' in one of his cases in the past. He did not serve jail/prison time. I think Hope knew that the PSI she waived would have been read by the Judge and he would have seen that she had been out of jail for only two weeks (possession) before getting arrested in this case. That would have been included in a PSI. As it stood, with waiving the PSI, the Judge could not take that into consideration as it was an arrest and not yet a conviction. Hope was in the vehicle when the pills changed hands and that makes everyone responsible to a degree for just having been there. Except for the UC officer, obviously.

Also, Hope will still have to go to court for her possession charge even if she is in prison. So she will have 15+ years unless it is time served.

Hope gambled and lost.

Thanks LaLAW for this outstanding post. If I can add, if we are going to claim Hope did not understand the No Contest plea, are we also going to add that she didn't understand being present in a drug deal was breaking the law? Where does all this stop and the suspects take responsibility for her crime?
The ink on her fingerprints was barely dry, two weeks, that's just 14 days, after her first drug arrest.
We really have no idea what transpired between Hope and her attorney as they discussed her case and the avenues she could take in her plea. But, we do have her on tape with an attitude that she seems to know best. JMO

I'd rather they be in jail while LE works on Haleigh's case than out there doing drugs and having a great time. When they were out in the public flaunting their "celebrity" it was truly frustrating! And now that we have proof they were drug users, I'm even more happy to see them behind bars while LE works on finding Haleigh!

...and getting pregnant.

I can easily see Misty wanting to, given the chance now.

:Justice: Hope had no remorse and would not have stopped! How many people has the judge saved from getting hooked on pills or drugs... :toast:

Didn't NG say if anyone get's a long time in prison they might be able to make a deal with the state and get their sentenced lowered, if they tell what they know and it can be proven to be true?

We don't know what the attorney told Hope before or after the phone call with mom. Seems Hope and Misty know all about youth offender programs, though. Maybe from other inmates?

Dr. Fessel..When I heard her go on about Ron..it creeped me out. Very Sick Stuff going on.

Go on about Ron like how???:waitasec:

Isn't she his cousin?

WOW!! She'll have to serve 85% of her sentence, she's only been in trouble once before, she's 18 years old. I can't help but wonder, is it possible for Misty to get less time. Misty is 17 years old, hasn't been in trouble before, and I wonder what will happen to RC, he's sooooo much older, and has been in trouble a number of times, although I believe he's never actually been charged with anything, this is all very interesting.

Oh, it's worth the listen. It's a cross between starstruck and adoration.

well Tommy and Misty keep saying they not going to do prison.

Does this mean Hope going to the big girl house?

lol. Tommy and Misty can say anything they want. Doesn't mean it's going to happen no matter how hard they wish it.
I have a feeling both of them will be seeing the insides of prisons.

Yep, eventually Hope will be packed up for her venture to her new home for the next 15 years. (the big girl house)

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but due to Hope's sentence, this is the first time that I feel it's almost over and there will be justice for Haleigh.

I think this is the straw that will break the camel's back.

Misty was 18 at the time of the DT.
The youthful offender status is totally at the discretion of the judge.
I don't see her drawing much sympathy at this point.
Hope seems much more sympathetic of the two and she didn't get the YOS option.

Tommy and Misty can preach all day long about what they're not gonna do but when the judge speaks, they WILL do as he/she says, like it or not.

Yep, we heard for ourselves how Hope was going to refuse to participate in two programs for her sentence. It didn't work out too well for Hope. She obviously did not have much say in what she was or wasn't going to do.

Misty is 18 years old. Hope has been in trouble a few times before now, I don't think any of the Satsuma 5 are going to get off lightly with their charges.

I do think the judge is sending a message by this sentence, and Hope certainly did herself no favors with that call to mom.

I am really shocked by the sentence, based on the tape we saw I was not expecting her to get 15 years, was thinking more like 5, but I don't feel the least bit sorry for her.

Misty is 18, not 17, and was already 18 when arrested on these charges. If I were her and did not kill Haleigh I would be ringing for the sheriff about now, and wanted to tell the real story and take a new lie detector to back it up. Not sure about Florida but in many states, tampering with evidence and concealing a body could bring less of a sentence than the drug charges. If she waits until after she is sentenced on the drug charges, I think it will be too late for her, assuming, as I said, that she did not kill Haleigh and did not conspire to do so and can pass a lie dectector, finally, to whatever she is ready to say really happened.

State. They were busted by county/state agents and/or local LE. If the Feds had busted them, it would be Federal.

Although LaLaw says they are Federal. I don't know. I don't think they were in federal court, but county court.

Thanks for clearing this up. I thought that getting the pills in Virginia, and selling them in Florida, it was a federal offense. I guess they can call it as they see it.
