Hope Sykes arrested 1/20/2010

Maybe Haleigh was already passed away when Tommy arrived so he doesn't know who the killer actually is??

Even if she was and even if he had no intentions of calling the cops, wouldn't you think he would have, at the very least, demanded to know what happened? I do believe he knows who killed her. This whole thing is just so messed up, I'm not sure we will ever know what really happened to that poor baby girl. So frustrating!!! :banghead:

Personally, I think that Tommy is going off of what he was told by Misty because Haleigh was dead when he got to the Mh and Ron wasn't there.

He must have had his doubts about Misty for the last year thinking it was her, than telling himself no it wasn't... than Misty writes that letter about Joe and Tommy grabbed on to that in order to get a deal and not have to implicate Misty. Who knows though... maybe all this time Misty felt comfortable pointing at Tommy because she knew he didn't do it so she figured it was safe because they would never find evidnence against him. Posters have been saying for a long time now... look at who Misty isn't pointing to. Just my thoughts at the moment.

Almost seems like she didn't have much of a lawyer, some of us are wondering what in fact her lawyer did do for her. Yikes.

There is a whole ongoing thread from earlier today about Hope's sentence under the main Haleigh section.

Thanx I'll check it out....

Did I hear NG right? Did she say they won't come forward about Haleigh because they will only implicate themselves deeper? Or something like that??
TIA

Maybe what happened to her body??

Ouch! Your post reminded me of what Granny Hollar said about "Misty hitting Haleigh in the head with a piece of wood". I'm saying that a head wound would be easily recognized.

When NG used the word "identify" re JWs statement/comments about TomC, it might give some listeners the impression that TomC is an eyewitness.

Since JW didn't say it, he had to squelch it right out of the gate tonight.

That's what I mean... NG's been twisting words around and lately it has gotten her into trouble. She changed AH's bones into Haleigh's skeletal remains and LE had to release a statement. I'm glad JW squelched that tonight.

ToC's lawyer says that ToC is not culpable (okay so he's a defense lawyer, I know) but if he really isn't then I am thinking that one or more parties that do know what happened that night to Haleigh..told him

I think Tomy's lawyer is a little off base. He has a record of arrests-not sure how he was sentenced, but...domestic abuse, burglaries, bus stop-drugs episode, wharever else is in his past, & whatever he gets charged with in Haleigh's case. & I don't give a rat's u-no-what, what his involvement was, he hasn't done diddly to move this thing towards closure. he needs to pay for EVERYTHING. & if he gets less time than Hope, I'll lose all faith in the judicial system.

Yes, that was NGs opinion - that HS tough sentence was to squeeze the others, but she does not expect the players to open up.

JMO to to harsh....Did she even have a lawyer?

Hi trigger, I'm still trying to catch up here but she has prior convictions. Yes she did have a lawyer and 15 was the minimum of the time she was facing. She could have got 30.

The drug trafficking charges are all state level and NOT federal, if any of them were federal they would've been held in Jacksonville and gone to court up there in federal court. Instead, they are scheduled all for court in the counties of Putnam and St. Johns.

...the only thing that still bothers me about Hopes no contest plea, is the fact that if Hope did understand her plea would lead to a minimum 15 year prison sentence, WHY WOULD SHE PLEA NO CONTEST?

Who would do that? She clearly doesn't feel she deserves the trafficking charge in the first place by how outraged she is in the phone call to mom that she didn't have the pills in the car.

So to recap my thought, if she fully understood the plea, why would anyone in their right mind not delay and wait to see what happened to the others? Would you rush it through court, plead not guilty and get sent to the slammer for hard time?

I certainly wouldn't have pled no contest in this situation, no matter what my lawyer said.

to me it just doesn't make sense she would willingly send herself down the river like that.

Hope was caught trafficking which carries a 25 year minimum sentence in Florida. The other offenses were intent or possession-trafficking in Florida is a whole different ball game.

Bolded by me: Or Tommy realized that if LE couldn't place Joe at the crime scene or anywhere near Haleigh that night that he would be the one who admitted that he was at the MH that night, would be left holding the bag. I'm feel sure that that thought could easily put him to implicating Joe right along with Misty.

At first I thought it seemed harsh until I started thinking further. Let's say Hope sells pills to some young kid who then gets hooked. This kid gets married and has kids of his or her own. They see the parent taking pills and they start doing it too. It just goes on and on, so looking at it from this angle, it's not too harsh.

No new information about TomC from his attorney...JW repeats calmly & confidently the same mantras about TomC. I felt a little bit hypnotized tonight when JW spoke about Tommy. Going to splash some water on my face now.

Hi LT! Sometimes a head injury can be easily recognized. Sometimes there can be a "closed head injury" (esp. with younger children) that doesn't show any outward signs of damage. Maybe a small lump. But no indication on the skull (fractures...etc.) JMHO.

IMO, the lawyer got her 15 years instead of 30.

If she went to trial the survellance tape would have done her in and she could have gotten 30 years. There was no way a jury would vote for not guilty after viewing that tape. Her previous record negated any time off or allowance. The best she was looking at getting was 15 years and that's what she got.
