State of Emergency declared in Georgia. (per weather channel)

ETA:
Gov. Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency for all of Georgia on Wednesday, citing concerns about high winds and torrential rain.

“The state is mobilizing all available resources to ensure public safety ahead of Hurricane Florence,” said Deal, who added that residents should "be prepared for the inland effects of the storm as well as the ensuing storm surge in coastal areas.”

"Although slow weakening is expected to begin by late Thursday, Florence is still forecast to be an extremely dangerous major hurricane when it nears the U.S. coast late Thursday and Friday."

"At 5:00 PM EDT (9/12/2018), Florence is moving toward the northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this general motion, accompanied by a gradual decrease in forward speed, is expected to continue through Saturday. It will approach the coast of North Carolina or South Carolina in the hurricane warning area on Thursday and Friday, and move slowly near the coastline through Saturday."

General Honore does not tolerate fools well. I really don't know how well he would do inside the present administration. If he felt motivated enough to write an op-ed, he would likely sign it, and be looking for a "place" to deliver it!

"At 800 PM EDT (0000 UTC), the center of Hurricane Florence was
located near latitude 31.5 North, longitude 73.2 West. Florence is
moving toward the northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this general
motion, accompanied by a gradual decrease in forward speed, is
expected to continue through Saturday. On the forecast track, the
center of Florence will move over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean
between Bermuda and the Bahamas tonight, and approach the coast of
North Carolina or South Carolina in the hurricane warning area on

The convoys are increible! Charley was first time i experienced one. I experienced it on regular roads not interestates.

It was so cool. I wish i could have found a video on a regular street!

Like a half a mile of em . really neat to see how they go around - the first truck moves over to like the left to prepare to make a turn and 100's of em after the lead one move over left!

It was like a ballet!

I froze water bottles and gave em out to em it was hot -- hey in some instances nice looking hot sweaty men!

people beeped there horns at em they were our heroes!!

Electrical linesman are a breed apart. They work in ALL kinds of weather, in a bucket attached to a truck, or with a set of leg spikes used to climb a pole (If necessary). My Dad was one before WWII, worked as a Construction Linesman as a Seabee in the Aleutian Islands (from the Swamps of Louisiana - go figure), and for another 10 years after the War, when he became a New Orleans Policeman, because he thought that was safer than working on live power lines, as Linesman routinely do now. In the "old days" they would routinely shut off power to whole areas of a block, or the city, to work on " dead" power lines.

Interesting you mention power lines. I was just reading this article about line crews cutting down branches before the hurricane hits.

It's astounding how much preparation is done in advance of this.

I agree my dear

what media did this AM is not ok

she is 500 miles wide confusing people who are not following it like we are is just not right

and I want to be careful here respectfully - just what they carried on with this AM ( we are a small sample size) changed someones plans

it was not a change in anything -- what happened was 24 hours passed and the new model runs now bring in 24 hour later data

we are noticing the hysteria about florence is changing course is gone--

i am not hearing it any longer

right up till landfall there are margins of error

we all are following and they confused the heck out of us the way they reported it and it took us a while to figure what out what they were blabbing about

I wonder how the deep pocket re-insurers who insure American insurance companies feel about that?

85+ degree Fahrenheit water temps? Ever heard of Crack for hurricanes?

For a week before landfall H. Katrina was projected to land everywhere from the Florida panhandle East. It was not until the Friday before its Sunday night landfall that they Id'ed the Louisiana coast. Even then it was projected to go up the Mississippi, and not the Louisiana/Mississippi border on the Coast, where it eventually came on shore.

This is the nature of the Beast. I, personally, think that this storm may hit the coast and slide South, not quite coming on shore, but sharing its Biblical rainfall with Georgia and possibly Florida. It could even wind up in the Gulf of Mexico and reform after crossing Florida....Hurricanes move around like ball lightening sometimes. Keep watching the track, as it may well change!

Things are totally crazy here. Many stores and businesses are closed. Found a Harris teeter open this morning and grabbed more water and food since this storm is going to be here for awhile. Generator is gassed up and ready. Everything is secured and put away. Propane is stored and grills and cookers stored. extra toilet paper, plates, medicine, snacks and yes, wine and beer.
Everyone is nervous. My daughter and my two grandchildren will be here prior to the curfew that starts at 8 pm. Have chargers for phones and laptops for my car which is in the garage.

Everyone is riveted to tvs and latest tracks. People are being evacuated along the rivers and coastal areas. Marines are coming in to help National Guard.
It's wait and see.

Will be thinking of you continually. Prayers of safety and well being to you and your family, lonetraveler.

Thanks for the complement, but I don't have a crystal ball, and I can't tell you what FEMA may do next!

I would just as soon guess which way a cockroach will run when you turn the light on.

They will likely preposition more food, water and supplies, inland along the coast. They likely are now loading trailers from warehouses (both Government and private contractors) waiting to see just where this storm will go next. There could be severe flooding South down the coast to and through Florida (look what the recent hurricane to skirt Hawaii did at 5 mph) as the storm skirts the coast heading south to even warmer waters. This storm could also cross Florida and reform in the Gulf of Mexico (extreme case scenario).

Though they are not cogsigent, hurricanes don't "like" high pressure areas, but will go towards low pressure areas (in general). They don't "like" to go ashore where they will break-up and "die", especially if the forward speed is slow enough to turn and avoid landfall. Come on guys, please start thinking like Nash Roberts!

There is (or was) a Bermuda high to the north, and a low pressure area (and a developing storm) to the far South, with a low pressure area in the Gulf of Mexico to the Southwest, all of which this storm may follow like a drunk sailor heading for loud music, neon lights and cold beer, or hot southern waters, and a low hanging atmospheric pressure bottom if a drunk hurricane!
