It doesn't for me CARIIS up here in Canada. That's ok as I have the channel with cable here.

Still keeping tabs on my Elizabethtown, NC friend - they're still without power and he went to be early. Oh and his laptop/mobile devices low on battery.

Keeping my fingers crossed and a prayer. Hopefully Florence will end soon quickly.

"WPD can confirm the first two fatalities of Hurricane #Florence in Wilmington. A mother and infant were killed when a tree fell on their house," police tweeted Friday afternoon. "The father was transported to (New Hanover Regional Medical Center) with injuries."

Heartbreaking. I was watching coverage and they had brought in a surgical team to amputate the father's leg(s) because of the way he was trapped. Thankfully they were able to figure out a way to get him out.

There was another reporter who was struggling to stand up in the wind, but his trousers were flapping way more than the one in the video above and it really did look like someone struggling to stand still as they get buffeted by gusts.

I am in Charlotte NC - currently raining and gusty winds.

On the weather channel, the newscaster was leaning into the wind, acting like it was so strong he couldn't hardly stand up, and in the background, two people stroll along like it wasn't windy or raining. I guess everyone must be an actor to have any position on TV. Disgusting that weather newscasters would FAKE the intensity of a storm. There's enough real tragedy to report on without faking the winds. I'm disgusted!

I saw this too. It made me mad because stuff like that is why people don't take the warnings seriously.

Greenville, SC here. Still waiting for possible 40 mph winds and 2-4 inches of rain tomorrow. The slow speed of this storm, the wind, and amount of water dumped on an area that has had plenty of rain this year will cause problems for some of us in the Upstate. My home is in a fortunate location. I’ll check in again tomorrow.

I'm in the Wilmington, NC area. We relocated to my grandmother's house which is more inland. The wind has simmered down a bit. The power here went out at about 10 am this morning. Last night none of us could sleep because the wind was pounding the house so bad! Unable to sleep I checked on my pet snake in the garage and I felt like I was in a zombie horror movie! The wind sounded like someone (or something) trying to get in! On top of that my grandmother doesn't know I have a snake! Every time she goes in the garage I panic inside! She hates snakes! I was actually supposed to move on Weds but the storm delayed that. I brought all my animals, my cat, snake, and three fish. I couldn't even imagine leaving them since my window in my bedroom was in a danger zone for damage.

Looking out the front window here (at my grandmother's) I see the neighbors tree fell down and there is a tree limb blocking one side of the road. The trees are aggressively rattling with every burst of the storm. Surprisingly in a span of 30 mins I saw at least three vehicles drive past. The wind right now sounds like waves crashing on the beach.

Addressing the many people that don't understand why we didn't relocate away from Wilmington, we really didn't have the means or the time to relocate or a practical place to go to. We have relatives in West Virginia and Maryland which is too far considering we have animals with us and just didn't end up happening. We have gotten several messages from people asking, "Why didn't you leave? Why stay?". It's just not that simple. I understand the concern, but trust me if I could leave I would. Power outages are no fun... Of course! We also aren't in a area of mandatory evacuation, just voluntary. That's another thing I don't think people understand.

Another thing about this storm that was interesting was that it was weird to me was seeing Wrightsville Beach on CNN. WB is a neighboring beach to Wilmington. Very close to home for me.

Thank you for sharing with us from your near point of view. I chuckled at your snake story. My Grandmother water skied into her 70's, deer hunted near Houghton Lake, Michigan into her early 90's (snow and cold too) but do not even say the word snake in her presence.

I would be freaking out hearing wind howling for hours loudly (residing in Florida) and asking please for umpteen stress relievers, enough to knock me out for a few days (I have panic attacks). Please take care. I'm so glad you cared about your pets even 3 fish. Be safe.

ETA: corrected number of fish from 1 to 3. p.s. It's hard pressing the "like" button.

LOL that video. It may have been hard to stand if he's on wet grass instead of the sidewalk or street!

Good to see you here. I miss your professional input on the MT thread.

You may well find an article in yesterday's Des Moines Register to be of interest. It is About CR's "block out" being of value to his defence, concerning diminished capacity.

The article reads like a synopsis of the last 3 weeks of the WS MT thread. Well, if you're going to crib, then crib from the very best.

Hoping that you and yours are safe and well!

I'm in the Triad (Greensboro, Winston, High Point) light rain off and on, windy. We're supposed to get 5-8" over the weekend. The pic of the radar was from about an hour ago. I'm hoping it shifts just a little over night.

Hi! I will be back once the trial starts. Until then it can get too political for me - I try to keep my blood pressure down ;). I will check out the article though. Hope you are doing well, I miss the MT dream team over there!
