And she's still ok?

She's OK for now, but still awake and keeping a close eye out for water level on street/sidewalk/yard. Sounds like neighbors are working together and watching out for her and each other, thankfully .

Is that the controlled release announcement , from earlier today??

It's reported to have been at 9:05 PM. So a few hours ago. Hopefully nothing's changed, or gotten worse at least.

Has anyone had any recent contact with GeeVee? And if so, did she say how the water levels are ? TIA

Yes (see above ;)) . Water is accumulating, but sounds like her street is not flooded at the moment.

I'm not sure if this helps or not:

http://abc13.com/dozens-of-neighborhoods-affected-by-flooding-near-reservoirs-/2348619/

Homes and roads in west Houston are taking on water after waters rose sharply in Addicks and Barker Reservoirs.
The Army Corps of Engineers began a controlled release of the reservoirs around 1 a.m.

The controlled release of water is not expected to cause an increase in Buffalo Bayou downstream.

Water continues to rise in both reservoirs. The Harris County Flood Control District expects the following subdivision to be impacted by some degree of flooding.

Dr. Edmund Russo, with the Corps of Engineers, said 25 inches of rain had already been added to the reservoir. The National Weather Service warned another 25 inches could be coming over the next several days.

Even with the controlled release, the reservoirs are rising at a rate of four inches per hour, Russo said.

Thank you. That does help. Whew. The info is for sure from yesterday, announcing the controlled releases beginning yesterday AM.

Yes, I noticed it said 1:00 A.M. Yet the article just now stated 22 minutes ago. WTH.... Oh well, I sure hope it's good news , that's all that matters. I'll check in in the morning. Sure hope and pray that Geevee's safe and sound.

Not good (?) I posted the last number of 171,000 cubic acres full a little bit ago. The total has since gone up to 172, 600. Surface level is at 106.08 as of 23.20, CST.

As of 00.30 CST:

Addicks, cubic acres of water went up from 172, 600--- to 175, 200

Srface level: up from 106. 08 to 106.27.

The addicks dam is 6 inches from spillway, ( for the first time-)

the spillway is like the thing in our bathtubs or bathroom sink when the water gets too high it goes through those holes)

they are still running models to try and determine exactly what that translates to

Makes sense in a way its never happened before and they cant actually predict inflow .

We would need to know how fast our bathroom sink will fill up and how much . how fast . how long it will be pouring through the hole.

Inflow is still higher than out flow so it is just gonna happen

Better to try to use the spillway and see if you can release enough through the spillway as opposed to it coming over the top of dam itself .

That was why they tried to do the reservoirs first.

That is what happened in Orville they were having trouble with the spillway and shut it off to inspect.

During that time period inflow rose and it overtopped. Kinda like your bathtub overflowing

might as well hope that the emergency drain in the tub would keep the tub from overflowing itself,

going through the emergency drain is more controlled than the bathtub just overflooding

damn is 70 years old

was built after a couple of floods in the 20's to protect downtown

they sounded pretty clear that it will happen in about 3 hours

The Bayou is doing well at this

Mixed blessing water is drooping which translates to size of boats being able to be used

moves it over to truck needs
some folks will be able to see thier homes for the first time. He warned he was flooded in the past and going back is a very difficult emotionally

The brother of survivor of the van :

There was a high water bridge they decided they would cross = sounds like they kinda gunned it and across. but after that there was dip and the moving water started to take the van

He got out through a window and then the van went into the fast moving bayou and the van got swept away.

Hope

I cant seem to find the actual two dams -- all I keep getting are the reservoirs

Have you found the actual inflow /outflow rates for both actual dams?
