Good evening, I just wanted to say hello to all my fellow Texans on here. I hope you all are doing OK. I am so sad for this horrific disaster and all of the suffering it has brought. But I am so proud of the generosity, resilience, and daggum stubbornness we are witnessing. We have had no damage here, knock on wood, and are ready to roll up our sleeves whenever this damn rain stops. Godspeed everyone.

BFMD - checking in - just suffering from fatigue. Our event ended awhile ago - we are nominal - again our friends and neighbors in Rockport and Port Aransas were impacted far worse than we. I want to hear from Bootsctr and Geevee - glad to see the stalwart here keeping the candle it for those in harms way - CARIIS, Ocean, Popsicle and too many for me to keep up with (sorry!!!!)

I let out one big sigh of relief to see you here, BFMD!! Thank you for stopping by. I am sure you are busy so this means an awful lot to know all is still somewhat OK for you. I know poor Stockport is in dire situation now; is Aransas just as bad? Stay "dry" as best you can.

...
As a native Houstonian having been through several hurrines, I agree with the Gov not issuing a mandatory evacuation. That would have been a logistical nightmare; and actually potentially causing more loss of life. As well as potentially blocking the paths of emergency rescue vehicles during the storm, and in the aftermath.
I am not living there there right now, but if I were, I would have been against a mandatory evacuation.
jmoo

Meanwhile, I hope Harvey peters-out and will not wreak any more havoc on Houston, or any where else. :praying:

Toomuchsadness - thank you for your concerns - I want to hear from the rest.

So do I .... :dunno: :heartbeat:

glad to see CrimeDawg here ... thanks for your update. happy for you to be in good shape, and i hope it stays that way. bless you ... I bet you do get out and help those less fortunate. it is going to take a great deal of help from everyone, in any way possible.

On CNN, they were talking with Tim Miller from Texas Equusearch. his family (not sure how many, I believe he said 5 members, some were grandchildren) were in their attic and called or texted him for help; He drove as far as he could and took a boat with him -- took the boat the last few miles to rescue them safely. He sounded so devastated and felt awful boating past others stranded on top of their cars begging for help that he could not give, since he knew he had to get to his own family, What a terrible predicament that just have been for him.

I saw this interview, too. It just broke my heart. He sounded like he was feeling guilt and grief because his help doesn't feel like enough in light of all of the people who need help.

I'm not really the praying type, but I'm praying for everyone. The magnitude of this will fundamentally change people and whole cities in Texas. I marvel at the bravery and selflessness people are showing each other during this dire event.

Spellbound! I knew I missed so many in my shout out of thanks! Thank you! Rockport and Aransas are suffering - so many people have lost their homes or heavily damaged. I fear now for the folks in the path of the flooding. My son's inlaws returned to their home on the island (north padre island) today - power restored and minor damage to their dock, but home was intact. With a hurricane, the biggest damage is directly in and north of the eyewall - we were south, we will recover, many more marginal structures I am sure have sustained more damage and time will reveal those. In my neighborhood its a few tree limbs, a few windows and more aggravation - we do have folks in our FEMA domes at Tuloso Midway High School and Calallen high school from the Rockport area. Our locals are mounting relief collections for them - we will be helping there tomorrow. (FEMA domes are structures that were built in the last couple years to provide for evacuees and first responders in the event of a disaster - they are onsite at a couple of local high schools - with a third coming online later this year - on the non emergency basis they provide for another space for those high school's activities),

OK I am going to do this the best I can!!

as it relates to the releases the water guy has been awesome all day !

If anyone is near the two reservoirs please go online

they have just released very important maps , they are slamming them out to media

The maps will enable you to by street see what is coming

The deal Each dam has a reservoir There for backup usually

they are a wreck if they do not do a release they could risk messing the damn and then lose control of the whole mess

they have to do this one is Attica or something like is filling faster that will go a 2 am -- the other Baker I think will be in 24 hrs

the 2 am on goes into the Bayou one which is already bad. So that is a problem . Those that are right around teh reservoirs are gonna have problems cause even with the release in exceed out.

so right around the reservoirs it actually not gonna be the release (which will impact down stream) it is going to be the actual reservoirs overtopping - so that is what is gonna flood out the areas right around the reservoirs

They cant really tell actuals cause they dont know rainfall tongiht

One release will impact downtown.

hopes that helps if anyone is near these or knows someone who is pls pass along cause they can look up there street -- daybreak get out if you can according to them

The area right around the reservoirs are the only areas that are gonna be impacted.

The real problem is not like they doing this huge splash -- the problem is everything is already over banking - so the overbanking is just gonna get worse

They cant tell when if they have to do again depends on in out for both

a paraphrase from one of my favorite movies - "we are at our best, when things are at their worst..." ("Starman"-1984)

All day have been blown away at how much power remains on

Here a hurricane hit power is gone peroid

Charlie was incredible . I wanted to find dyou guys a pic of the power truck caravans.

They were like trains

here is the only one I found but they would be like 35 40 all in a pack , all different colors from power companies all over the nation

they were really cool to watch the lead one when the whole train would have to make a turn up ahead the lead one moved over to the left lane

everyone else just followed it was almost pretty

imagine this going for 30 trucks or so

Hey! A Websleuths group cruise! What an excellent idea!!!
:skip:

O/T!

We could do a murder mystery on board

where we solve the crime

like Murder on The Orient Express!

Radio station did a huge one here it was awesome

They did it where we had three scenes to go to miles apart

just random memories

one car had car keys on hood

one guy had a drop of blood on his shoe ( the key)

they had a dummyvictim, stabbed outside

it was amazing

well..............me being me at one scene I saw an orange HHR in the parking lot of a bar that was part of our crime scene .

I thought it was part of it ! So I go over (they gave us little detective books !! and start going through the car.

I am finding little mini bottles of booze. To me that felt right the murderer was drunk!
a organizer (nicely) comes and informs me that car belongs to the bartender as is not part of the game.

To no surprise (it was about 250 people - it was sponsored by Harley Davis motorcycles and lot of motorcyles. It was like out in the boonies so the motor cycle guys like it cause they could cruise around in clusters!

Needless to say I became somewhat of a known entity because the the Dj of the show that put iton mentioned and asked me to stand on a table as he told them all about my searching a car that is not part of the game !!

I did not hang around long after -- i am not trying to stereotype but people were drinking and I am not queeny, but am gay, and it kinda started to get a little scary!!

It was only little clusters but I could tell a couple of them were talking to me only to find out if I was .... drinking motorcycles gay me could just be a problem.

it was fun -- was easy to solve - they had drama students at each site that played a role and we got to question them and stuff f

Oh brother there was a another part of this if I can remember the hosts name I will share

but the Dj like a week later , was drunk and shot his wife and a bullet hit his little doggie -- obviously it was a huge story here

Houston mayor was just defending his decision not to call for city's evacuation. I don't know...

JMO, I think he is basing his decision on another hurricane situation a few years back when orders to evacuate were issued for Houston. 100 people died in car wrecks on I-45. I have some old friends down that way who say evacuating can be as dangerous as staying. I don't know.

Houston is under a dark red system right now

The dam is getting slammed now also

they just cant catch a break

CARIIS - had the misfortune of being caught in an ice storm in 2000 - just before the " 2001" turn of the century that predicted doom. My mother had just died, we were in Arkadelphia Arkansas when we had to abandon the road -me and husband, and very young son, mom's dog (and bulldog named pumpkin) and cat (who had been the only cat my dad -who predeceased my mom - had ever loved) - we managed to get off the road that night thinking we could pull into a hotel - all full, of electric technicians from as far north as Iowa, sent in to repair the damage - we saw transformers blow up as the ice destroyed the entire area. We wound up at a red cross shelter (first methodist arkadelphia, iirc) and were fed, bedded and cared for - pets outside in the car - we woke up to start and warm every two hours - who nestled together in blankets for warmth - and survived. but i will never forget the line of technicians and trucks streaming in from points north to restore power to the area - which had suffered catastrophic damage. there must have been 300 of them - I'll never forget that, or the people of that church and the red cross or the night in the shelter. That pup and kitten lived to a very old age, dear son is a grown man with his own family, and me and that crazy husband of mine who likes to check the mailbox during hurricanes, are still running around - picking up where we left off. Lost our power during this hurricane - our techs got out, got it done and brought us back up in 9 hours.. I'll be donating to the lineman college this year (and forward)

This is absolutely heartbreaking. I can't imagine - please pray for Houston.

I'm sorry to double-post, but I can't imagine I'm the only one right now on this thread.
