Following quietly. Praying for all. I gave my Danish MIL a geography lesson yesterday complete with visual map. So she believes we are good now. She has all her faculties but must have missed geography 101 in Denmark. The pics are devastating, especially those poor vulnerable in the Nursing home. Hanging on to the bright, those out there rescuing. Wish I could do more than pray. Thanks for checking in WS peeps.

Shocking pic.

I am hoping the nice cat that apparently was also a resident got out along with the residents.
(You can see it in the background).

Agreed. Cats, dogs, birds, cattle--all deserve a fighting chance in this mess as well.

All this devastation is heartbreaking.

I see a tornado warning has been issued: http://www.weather.gov/hgx/

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
West central St. Martin Parish in south central Louisiana...

* Until 1215 PM CDT

* At 1145 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a
tornado was located over St. Martinville, moving north at 15 mph.

Take care, all of you!

Praying for an end to all of this very, very soon.

That's a lot of cars/trucks in that driveway!?!?

Why didn't they move vehicles to higher ground before the storm? Are they not in a flood zone?

I am confident insurers are not going to need pictures or battle a claim!

They won't necessarily, they'll just come out and evaluate the damage, then ask for a ton of paperwork, like receipts and polices. That too was destroyed in the flood, so you'll have to call and get ahold of these copies. The government sucks when it comes to providing people with the necessary funds to rebuild. Sure the Red Cross and others are out there now helping, but after the flood is gone from the news and everyone else in the world thinks you are home and settle. Then, and only if you have all of your paperwork together, they'll send each homeowner a check for 1/3 of the cost to replace. FEMA stinks and is tied in to the flood insurance program.

I read yesterday that the cat was also rescued.

Oh, good! Thanks for that update.

I type this as one of mine has her tail on the keyboard; it occasionally gets tapped as I type!

Flooded Houston Braces for More Rain as Harvey Rescues Continue

by Phil McCausland, Stephanie Gosk and Phil Helsel

HOUSTON — Heavy rain returned with a fury Monday as up to 20 more inches was predicted to deluge the region following a weekend of widespread flooding and more than 2,000 rescues in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

The catastrophic storm is expected to send more than 30,000 people into temporary shelters and prompt about 450,000 people to file for disaster aid, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said Monday.
"This is a landmark event for Texas," Brock Long, FEMA's administrator, told reporters. "Texas has never seen an event like this." ...

Oh no, do they believe it was from a ruptured gas line? I am so fearful that we will see more of this happening or with electric lines being saturated.

I have been reading the posts since early this morning and the more that is posted the lower my heart sinks for all of those involved.

I just hope the weather forecasters are wrong about it being pushed back into the warm waters of the Gulf and coming back in again. I saw the link you put up this morning, Popsi, about the weather forecast for Houston this week and it made me so worried for all involved.

I truly haven't ever seen anything quite like Harvey and the damage he has already done and then knowing he is not nearly through reeking havoc by any means makes me so terrified for our dear friends in Texas. :( What a nightmare it must be for those who are there.

I want everyone to know I am still praying for all of you involved and my heart goes out to the great people in Texas who are caught up in this nightmare with no end in sight.

I knew there would be looting and those hiking prices for much needed items that should be given away instead of sold at a ridiculous high price. This seems to happen in every disaster. While it brings out the good in so many people it also brings out the worst among us as well. I hope every one of them is found and prosecuted. It takes very cold unfeeling people to do this to so many people who are in dire need of help, love, support, and compassion.

Oh I plan to give in the recovery effort so for our beloved members who are there which one do you recommend I should give to in order to receive the most help? TIA

I did some googling, and found these links:

The last link I enclosed includes some Charity Navigator rankings, which have helped me in the past to decide which charities use my donations most efficiently.

Hope this helps you and others.

Family members say six people have drowned in floodwaters in northeast Houston on Monday. Four siblings under the age of 16 and two elderly people drowned.

The elderly people were the great grandparents of the children, according to family members. Relatives say all six are presumed dead at this time. Their bodies have not yet been recovered.

We are working to gather more information on what happened. Check KHOU.com and KHOU 11 News on Facebook and Twitter for updates.

These people were all rescued...pets are considered to be family and brought along.

We are on the north side of Houston and we have been told to stay at home because roads are impassable. I have been in this area for 30 years and have never experienced anything like this. Volunteers are arriving - with boats, high water vehicles - from all over the place to assist. They are amazing! Thank you all so much for lending a hand. We love you guys!

Below is a map of impassable roads:

Everyone should think about donating to appropriate charity, Red Cross, Humane Society, etc.
