70 000 folks were transported into NO for Katrina aftermath work

Cariis, are you implying that the natural gas in a house could be used to blow up the house? No, no, not a good idea. I've seen houses that were leveled after a gas explosion. Debris is hurled all over the place. It is not at all a controlled demolition type of thing with gas.

Anyone watching Irma?

Lets hope Irma just fizzles. It cant happen. It just cant.

Or take a major turn to the right. Scary just to know it is a possibility that it could hit the US.

I have a question. When tragedies like this happened before, there was a hashtag or ? for folks that were opening their homes for those affected.

Is there one for this event?

are there lots of gas stoves and hot water heaters in Houston

I have never seen a gas stove here in FL !

I wonder if planned explosion demolition might be the most ideal way to do this.

No idea how long it would take to set up per house but in execution its 10 seconds

It seems like the only way to start rebulding is to get rid of what is in the space .

I wish N Korean and Russia had hurricanes!

Me too regarding NOKO and R. Texas does love her natural gas! We have it.

Glad you were able to check in Totesmagoat! I believe Geevee did evacuate, so yeah maybe she's saving her batteries. I think her mother was not too far from her. Holding my breath.

I have not seen a hashtag specifically for opening homes to those affected. I would be interested in knowing what it was if there is one. We are certainly dry and I have a spare bedroom and bath. If need be home office could be converted to bedroom too. It's so overwhelming.

Maybe start with #HoustonStrong and ask? And there's a Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1982997775271266/ I read about the Facebook group here: Facebook, Twitter Replace 911 Calls For Stranded In Houston http://www.npr.org/sections/alltech...rn-to-social-media-to-communicate-amid-harvey

I am praying that Harvey cooled things off enough to prevent Irma from building up too much power! It was really nice yesterday morning, but started to heat up again later in the day. Doing some hand-wringing thinking about it all and our members who are already living this nightmare!

Russell HOnore is on the scene yeh he is terrific.

The hard work is after rescue effort, power grid, security, water problems ,

Bo mont grid in much danger - very bad 100 000 would have to be loved

door to door starting

I will never forget the first time , in Katrina, I saw them do the spray paint codes about how many dead are inside. It was gross

I dont know guys he talks fast, so missed some, could not tell if he was concerned about Houston power grid as well

Housin is big all our power grids are interconnected.

really glad to see him tho i do not think he is in charge (yet!) ha

but at least he is on scene - he got NO moving 4 hours after he got near the place!

Isnt amazing how we tend to feel safe --- the medical problems are going to a real real problem

were gonna learn that we really have no clue what we are doing

Regarding Russell Honore, the man is an angel walking on the earth! I was very impressed with what he had to say regarding Harvey and what he has lived through!

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/08/30/arkema-ceo-no-way-to-potentially-stop-an-explosion.html

Arkema: SA expects chemicals to catch fire or explode at its heavily flooded plant in Crosby, Texas in the coming days, and has no way to prevent that from happening, the chief executive officer of the company's North America unit said on Wednesday
.Richard Rowe, CEO of the North America unit, told reporters that chemicals on the site will catch fire and explode if they are not properly cooled, and that Arkema expects that to happen within the next six days as temperatures rise. He said the company has no way to prevent that because the plant is swamped by about six feet of water.

Rowe did not disclose the volume of chemicals on the site and said it was speculative to predict how much damage the plant could sustain. He said there could be an "intense fire" that would result in significant black smoke but would not pose any "long-term harm or impact."
The plant is near a section of Interstate 90 that has been underwater and closed.
The plant has been without electric service since Sunday. Back-up generators have largely been inundated with water, the company said.
Chemicals on site are stored at low temperatures and can catch fire or explode at higher temperatures. The plant lost refrigeration when backup generators were flooded and then workers transferred products from the warehouses into diesel-powered refrigerated containers. The company said some refrigeration of back-up containers has been compromised because of high-water levels and the company is monitoring temperature levels remotely.
The Federal Aviation Administration has temporarily barred flights over the area near the plant because of the risk of fire or explosion.

I don't really believe the company when it says the released peroxides aren't toxic (at least one first responder has already been hospitalized after breathing in the stuff).

But the problems caused by these explosions is nothing compared to the very under-reported story about flooded federal Super Fund sites in Harris County. There are about 12 such sites overall, and I think all are flooded, as are an unknown number of sites officially deemed highly toxic by the state of Texas.

I don't believe it either. I can imagine the water will literally catch on fire from all this crap.

Gotta run some errands. BBL! I just saw that Arkansas is getting flash flooding! Sending positive thoughts and prayers their way!

I'm sure Geevee did (extremely reluctantly) have to leave her house, and am willing to bet that what came next is, best case, feeling pretty overwhelming and traumatizing.

But....she would have left her house voluntarily, before it was under water (if it even is now), helped by neighbors, and with at least some choice about where to go.

Geevee is very special to me, has been for years, so right now I'm holding onto that half full glass.
