NJ Governor Christie @GovChristie
The Garden State Parkway is now open but over 200 other state roads remain closed. Don't drive unless you absolutely have to.

Power just came on! Woo hoo!

Thinking of those millions of others without power and with flooded homes. Hope all WSers are safe...

Now to finish Karate Kid 2.

Concerned about Jersey*Girl - hasn't been on since 2:10am yesterday. Have sent her a note.

I sent her a note also, it does look like she's active on her twitter account though. I'm pretty sure it's her twitter account.

Need more coffee, but thankful I can have some.

I was thinking about the homeless and runaways in those areas. I imagine they can't get in to a shelter without ID right?

Also wondering about the Chincoteague Ponies this am. Was it you belimom that had a link for that?

Road into Ocean City. Cape May County has said that OCNJ residents are not allowed back today; probably won't be allowed back until the end of the week

Many in NJ don't have power. Prayers for the and all who haven't checked in.

It's minor in comparison, but here in MI we woke up to freezing rain, a ton of wind (still), and a smattering of power outages. My DD got an unplanned day off of school, though, as the building doesn't have power, so she's thrilled - lol.

I'm thrilled for DD! Retired teacher here... I STILL love snow days.

Just heard from my cousin in Hoboken. 8 feet of water in the basement, car totaled, and no way to get out. I feel so bad for everyone there!

I cannot even imagine. My parents flew in last night and the pilot said they were right on the edge of not being allowed to land due to the wind - all the way in Atlanta!

Prayers for all affected by Sandy.

My DD had texted me yesterday evening saying power had gone off. I was so worried. They are outside of DC, near Dulles. Right as I picked up the phone at 9 p.m., she texted power back on. She can read her mom like a book, and so she texted me this morning to say power stayed on all night.

Praying for all those who suffered so much loss and damage. Hugs to all of WS and for keeping everyone in their prayers and being our family through this storm.

Anyone in the Somerset, NJ area? I still can't get my mom on the phone there. I'm sure she's okay, but still she's 80 and not answering. Any problems there I should worry about?

I'm in VA and very familiar with the Dulles area. She should be fine. Overall, there are a couple of thousand people without power, but there isn't any major winds and should be repaired fairly quickly.

This storm had nowhere near the effect of the Derecho we had June 26. There is damage and flooding inland, but it is not anywhere near a disaster as in states north and west of us.

Has anyone heard any news about those poor little NICU and PICU babies and their rescuers?!!

Inside NYC hospital's near disaster during Sandy

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505263_162-57542362/inside-nyc-hospitals-near-disaster-amid-sandy/

It was an extraordinary scene at NYU Langone Medical Center after the main and backup power generators failed. The stakes could not have been higher. When I arrived shortly before midnight yesterday, the lobby was filled with doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters, and a command team of medical center personnel headed by Dr. Robert Grossman, the Dean and CEO of the medical center. They were all racing against time to try to transfer approximately 200 patients out of the Tisch Building. That included 20 newborns - four with breathing tubes - in the intensive care unit, or ICU. Those infants were swaddled in blankets and carefully carried with intravenous lines, oxygen, and monitoring devices attached. I saw a 29-week-old premature being held by a nurse who held an oxygen mask to his face. Anxious faces of parents and family members dotted the lobby..............

I was told by a spokesperson for NYU Tuesday morning that all but 50 patients have been transferred to local hospitals such as Cornell, Mt. Sinai, Memorial Sloan Kettering, North Shore Lenox Hill, and Hospital for Joint Diseases. The remaining 50 are expected to be transferred by about 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. I am awaiting details about how the patients are holding up. But given the potential for catastrophe when the evening began, the extraordinary efforts of the response team appear to have averted disaster.........

Just waking up here and catching up. I don't even know what to say anymore.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who had/has to endure this devastation.

Anyone in the Somerset, NJ area? I still can't get my mom on the phone there. I'm sure she's okay, but still she's 80 and not answering. Any problems there I should worry about?

Okay, I finally got in touch with her. She was outside cleaning up all the branches that came down. No electric but she says everything in that area is fine...most streets seem open and she was to the store already this morning. Her landline is down due to no electric and she couldn't figure out how to answer her cell phone :banghead: Lol, I bought it for her two years ago so it just shows how much she uses it. Hope everyone else is doing well this morning. Continued prayers for all affected.

Here in the DC area, everything is mostly normal. I took a few pictures of minor flooding in Old Town earlier but it's not nearly as bad as it has been before.

Someone asked about the Chincoteague Ponies. This is all that I could find:

The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company opened the gates to fencing of their grazing areas to allow them seek the highest ground on Assateague, which park officials said they will do instinctively.

There is high ground on Assateague Island that will not be covered by flood waters. The ponies will ride out the storm on that high ground.

After the storm, fire company personnel head out to Assateague Island to verify that all the ponies are ok.*You can follow the story on Facebook, on the Chincoteague.com page.*
